Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for: the next incarnation of the Joker. Suicide Squad, out next August, will feature Jared Leto as the clown prince of crime. So… here’s what he looks like. I can only imagine — scene: at a Warner Bros. office. “How do we make it clear that the Joker has issues?” says a nameless exec. “I know!” says another, “We’ll tattoo ‘Damaged‘ across his forehead!” Weird ableism issues aside (its not like it’s easy to avoid stuff like that with the Joker as a character), it’s just silly. The rest? I’m actually okay with. The other tattoos and erratic, edgy look he has could play well. Plus, we need to see Leto in action before final judgement, I feel. Until then, though, I have a feeling we’ll see a lot of “Damaged” jokes. But do you remember the original reaction to first images of Heath Ledger as the Joker? People hated his design! It’s finally time: after Heath Ledger’s amazing performance several years ago in The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. is preparing to cast the Joker for their movie universe. However, the first place he’ll show up is a little surprising: it appears WB is casting Joker for the upcoming Suicide Squad film directed by David Ayer. And the person eyed for the Joker role? Jared Leto. The Oscar-winner hasn’t been doing much since Dallas Buyers Club, as he wants to find a suitable follow-up. Being the Joker in WB’s movie universe might just be the way to go! Ever since Heath Ledger’s untimely death prior to the release of The Dark Knight, there’s been questions as to the fate of The Joker in the Batman film series. There’s even been rumors lately that director Christopher Nolan would bring Ledger’s Joker back in digital form for The Dark Knight Rises, using CGI and deleted scenes from The Dark Knight. IndieWire reports that they’ve spoken with Nolan and the rumors are not true — he says that Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight is singular and he won’t be “imported” into The Dark Knight in any way.
