The dandiest man in space is back this coming Saturday! Space Dandy has been one of the most entertaining recent comedy anime from the mind of Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe. Now only that, it’s also broken ground as being the first simulcast dubbed show, airing in English on Toonami around the same time as Japan. It’s pretty crazy. And this new trailer for season 2 also looks pretty crazy! More bizarre alien designs, more Meow & QT, more wacky hijinks, and of course… boobies. Check out the trailer below, and then catch Space Dandy’s return this Saturday at 12:30! Read more…

Otakon is in full swing this weekend! If you’re not there you’re missing out on Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe’s panel, at which he announced his next anime: Space Dandy. It’s a comedy about a crew of alien hunters lead by Dandy, the dandiest man in space. Dandy and his two partners, Meow and QT (a robot Dandy bought thinking it would be cool, but was actually “a Roomba”), travel the galaxy in search of new aliens not yet discovered. Watanabe promised “old school” Flash Gordon-styled space adventures with tons of crazy alien designs each week. And, the staff list looks incredibly solid, with Dai Sato and BONES on the list. Check out an off-screen video below of the trailer as well as more images. Read more…

Wow, it’s been good recently for anime fans. Not only did Kunihiko Ikuhara recently complete a new anime, we’re also getting a new Leiji Matsumoto show as well. And on top of all that? News came out today that Shinichiro Watanabe, director of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, will be returning to the director’s chair to lead a new noitaminA show called Sakamichi no Apollo. It’s about three students who come together over jazz music. Given the focus on music, you may wonder who is handling it for the show, and the answer is none other than Yoko Kanno. Yup, you’re officially allowed to get excited now. A trailer is included after the break. Read more…

I Wish Shinichirō Watanabe Would Do Another Major Anime Series

Posted by Michael Pinto on Nov 6, 2009 in Animation

The good news? Blu-ray for Samurai Champloo will be out on December 15, 2009. The bad news? What the hell ever happened to Shinichirō Watanabe! I realize that having been behind two great anime shows is pretty good for one lifetime, but damn it I’d like to see the guy do one more big thing. I’m not saying that he’s a slacker in fact Watanabe is the associate producer on the 2011 Cowboy Bebop film. But instead of seeing him revisit the past I’d love to see something new.
