So you want a fanboy friendly Broadway musical? Well the South Park crew could pull off what Bono and marvel never could — an amazing geek friendly Broadway musical which is the best I’ve seen since Monty Python’s Spamalot. In addition to musical numbers that made me laugh so hard that I had problems breathing there were numerous fully costumed references to Star Wars, Star Trek AND the Lord of the Rings! Also the Disney fan in me loved the never ending mocking of The Lion King. Drinking at the Movies by Julia Wertz Similar to The Fart Party Volumes 1 and 2, Julia Wertz shares an autobiographical account of her life in comics. This volume is about her settling into life at New York City, over a year’s period, separated with season’s markers. As a New York native myself, I found myself nodding my head to some bits that she points out, such as points about the food, neighborhoods, bums, and weather. Though I have no personal experience of her experiences in San Francisco, I find myself quite curious, since San Francisco is a city I have never visited, but heard things about. Forbidden Planet in New York City is still very much open, but sadly the shop today is less than 50% of the size that it was in the 80s. This stunning set of videos gives a tour of the place and serves as a vivid time capsule what a comic book shop on steroids looked like back in the day. Prototype is an interesting looking game which is set in NYC (it’s due out for the holiday season on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC) and what I’m seeing so far looks pretty amazing. The plot sort of reminds me of 28 Days Later with a slight bit of Men in Black: Read more… |
