When I saw these awesome custom-made hoodies from Rarity’s Boutique on Etsy, I simply had to bring them to your attention. Lisa Lou has been creating some great-looking hoodies inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender and My Little Pony, from the Earth Kingdom to Rainbow Dash. There’s even a Doctor “Whooves” hoodie, which is sure to appeal to plenty of fanboys out there! The hoodies, being custom-made, are in the $150 range and take about 7 weeks from the order date. Definitely worth it for a unique piece of clothing like this! Read more…
Talk about growth spurts. Close to 900 people crowded into a midtown Manhattan hotel ballroom at last weekend’s Bronycon II, vs. perhaps 1/3 that number at its September predecessor. The new venue – a long corridor and ballroom at NYC’s Hotel Pennsylvania (the fading epitome of 1940’s swank) – might’ve been bigger than the Chinatown loft where the September con was held, but was nonetheless instantly overcrowded. After one made their way past the undermanned registration desk, the next bottleneck to brave was a narrow doorway leading to the ballroom. (When you have dealer’s tables, an autograph line and random attendees all trying to occupy the same space at the time, traffic can’t help but gum up a bit.) Read more…

When I first came across the Bronies my first thought was “this has to be some sort of 4chan scam”. But then I started following them on Google+ and was shocked to see a wealth of amazing humor and a fan culture that in many ways reminded me of shows like Ren and Stimpy in the 90s. Yet I still thought of this as some fringe movement lurking in the dark corners of comic cons — however then I stumbled upon BroNYCon and was blown out of the water! Read more…

At first I didn’t take the Broniestoo seriously, but this has made me change my mind: Operation Winter Wrap Up is a site started by My Little Pony fans with the objective of “Bronies donate Ponies to children in need” with a holiday toy drive. Currently the Operation Winter Wrap Up site includes detail information on where to donate, toy suggestions and other ways that people can help: And there’s also a Facebook page as well. Read more…

Regardless of how you feel about the whole My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic thing, you have to admit that this scene from a recent episode, a parody of Star Wars’ ending scene, is pretty much pitch-perfect. Perhaps the world doesn’t need yet another Star Wars parody/homage/reference/whatever, but hey, if you’re gonna do it, you might as well do it right, and it looks like that’s what happened here. Side note: I feel like Vader probably would have made being a “brony” against Imperial law. That’s at least one thing he and I would agree on. Read more…
Ever heard of game developer Mane 6? No? Yeah, that’s not surprising: it’s a batch of bronies (and presumably a few female fans as well) who are working on a 2D indie fighter game featuring the characters from Hasbro’s surprisingly popular television cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this question asked in recent months, be it on Facebook, Twitter, or in real life: “what is the deal with all my friends getting into My Little Pony all of a sudden?!” So I thought I’d save you fan-persons a bit of trouble and trot out an explanation (get it?). I’ve split it into two sections: first, how adults come to the new animated series from Hasbro, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and second, why they tend to fall in love with it. Read more…
When I first spotted this limited edition Junko Mizuno Designer My Little Pony my first thoughts were “This looks like My Little Pony on LSD!” By adding the baroque flourishes to a sugar coated 80s cartoon icons the result reminds me a great deal of psychedelic inspired artwork from the late 60s — which in my book is a good thing (or an entertaining thing at the very least). By the way if you’re into the art toy treatment there’s also the My Little Pony Collector Art Pony Wave 1 Set although it looks a little bit more hipster like in its inspiration: Read more…
