When I was growing up, I absolutely loved my legos — so much so that I actually fancied myself a structural engineer of sorts. Of course, I never really built anything without a set of instructions but at least I did a good job of it. Needless to say, I was in complete awe of this fantastic creation by lego enthusiast Brickshelf. Using a simple image of a T-800 exoskeleton, he was able to recreate a bust of James Cameron’s metallic killing machine with stunning detail. Maybe it’s not as nostalgic for me as say… a Valkyrie, but its still way too awesome for me to ignore. Check out Brickshelf’s gallery for more photos. Read more…
I don’t want to date myself too badly, but I had the pleasure of seeing Macross before it was Robotech and the one thing that I loved about the show right away was the mecha design. And apparently I’m not the only one who felt that way — shown here is a Lego recreation of the Valkyrie VF-1S by the talented Eric Druon who goes by the name BaronSat. His Robotech as Lego tribute gallery is here — and his beautiful website is here. I personally think that it’s amazing that a fictional fighter robot which was designed by the talented folks at Studio Nue in 1982 would inspire someone to tackle this tribute 28 years later — which is all the more amazing considering that the show was originally set in the futuristic year of 2009. I am blown away by the quality of this virtual Lego Klingon Bird of Prey by Kevin J. Walter. This virtual model features 274,350 parts, would be 516 centimeters long and was rendered with the help of Eric Albrecht. This staggering project took more than two years to complete: Read more…
For his day gig Tommy Williamson professional artist working in the motion picture industry, but for fun he likes to play with Legos: His latest creation is this wonderful Alice in Wonderland tribute. What’s brilliant about his sculpture is how few bricks that he used to capture the likeness of the Mad Hatter and Alice: Read more…

LEGO Rock Band comes out next week (November 3rd) and this trailer looks like a great deal of fun. Part of me would love to see a TV show based on this opening title sequence, maybe not an entire Pixar film but a seven minute short with the right director would be amazing. Here’s a “Final Countdown” trailer from last week: Read more…

Who knew that 90s nostalgia would be the hot things for videogames over a decade later? In this case LEGO Rock Band has done a very cute job brining Britpop icons Blur to life. Now granted this isn’t my favorite song from Blur, but I still loved every minute of it. However I’d love to see them take this concept a step further and have a battle of the bands with Oasis whilst the Spice Girls made snide comments in the audience.

This is a sneak preview of Block Wars which was created in the game Blockland. While the cinematographer in me wishes there was a bit more rendering, the fanboy in me loves this!

In terms of videogames at this point the Lego brand is just like zombies, you simply add it to anything and it makes the title better! So in this case Rock Band is getting the Lego treatment, and if nothing else it looks so cute (of course!). The game will come out this holiday season for the PS3, 360, Wii and DS. Featured acts include Blur and Pink, but I guess we’ll have to wait for Beatles edition for next year. Here are some screen shots: Read more…

Lego Battles for the Nintendo DS is due out this June from Hellbent Games. Firstly I love the idea of anything associated with Lego (which is such a small scale toy) appearing on the ever so cute Nintendo DS platform, and secondly what makes this title interesting is that it will allow you to “build and battle” in terms of the gameplay. And the killer feature is that this title takes advantage of the networking capabilities of the DS so you can battle your friends block-by-block. Here are some images from the game: Read more…
As a Quentin Tarantino fanboy I love this fan made remake of Kill Bill (parts 1 and 2 no less). The credit goes to directors Joe Burgess, Rocco Sulkin and Will Tribble of the University of York Filmmaking Society. And on a related note here’s a Lego Batman version of Kill Bill which I also got a kick out of:Read more…
