In what was one of Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets, the Russo brothers have been confirmed as the directors of Avengers: Infinity War, the two-part epic that all of Marvel’s previous films have been leading to. The first two Avengers films were directed by Joss Whedon, who is stepping down to work on his own projects. Joe and Anthony Russo first directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Marvel, and they will begin shooting Captain America: Civil War next month. Seeing as The Winter Soldier is arguably the best Marvel film so far, I’d say the movies are in good hands. The Russo brothers will shooting both parts in one long shoot in 2016. Read more…

I know that a big company can make almost anything happen, but I’m still kind of giddy to see what Marvel is accomplishing with their Marvel Cinematic Universe. I was still uncertain that Joss Whedon’s proposed TV series based on S.H.I.E.L.D. would be produced, but those fears were laid to rest last Friday, when ABC confirmed that it had picked up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for the fall. While his fans are surely happy that Joss Whedon was simply working on another TV series, the fact that it’s set in the Marvel universe is probably some very heavy icing on the cake. After seeing his handiwork with The Avengers — he even made me somewhat appreciate Thor after a horrible solo movie — I’m sold on his plans to bring the military/spy/secret agent organization S.H.I.E.L.D. to the small screen. Now Whedon is hinting at what form the series may take. Read more…
