Prep For Nyan-TARDIS

Brenda's Nyan-cat TARDIS crossover

I’m sure by now you’ve all come across Nyan Cat while browsing through one or more of your favorite net-haunts. For whatever reason its just one of those polarizing subjects where people either find it incredibly annoying or  incredibly adorable with nobody falling in between. If you’re one of the latter, you’ll probably dig this awesome Doctor Who x Nyan Cat crossover shirt recently featured on Ript Apparel. Seeing as Ript designs are only available for a day before they’re taken down, you might think you’ve missed your chance to pick one up, but fear not! Brenda, the lovely artist responsible, also sells some of these designs as shirts through RedBubble. Sure it costs a bit more at $24 a pop, but at least you won’t have to worry about missing out. She also has some nifty Supernatural-inspired designs available for order. If you want to see more of her work, check out her Tumblr, or check out her Etsy store for anything else she might have on sale.

Disney Face Swapping

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Oct 24, 2011 in Animation

Disney Face Swap 1

Anyone remember that mid-90s action flick, Face/Off? You know, the one where Travolta and Cage swap faces for whatever reason. I always thought it was kind of ironic that even though they’re supposed to have only swapped faces, it was pretty much their entire bodies — it’s not as if they have the same build. Any way, take that concept, throw in some Disney and you’ll have yourself a hilarious Tumblr account. Disney Face Swap is a collection of ‘shopped’ images featuring one or more characters from our favorite Disney classics. The curator not only posts his own swaps, but also accepts fan submissions, so its updated frequently.  The images themselves range from hilarious to outright disturbing, but they’re all work safe and, I guarantee they’ll keep you entertained throughout the day.

E-mail Etiquette With the Oatmeal

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Oct 5, 2010 in Comic Books, Tech

The Oatmeal

These days, it seems everyone thinks they can have a web comic. I’m sure that’s probably why I don’t often read them, at least, not the ones that lack art in favor of snark. I’m not sure why, but I suppose on some fundamental level, I just object to the idea of reading witty blocks of text that could have been blogged, or otherwise printed instead of uploaded as a JPEG. And then, to call it a comic on top of that just adds insult to injury — it’s not a comic, it’s lazy. Occasionally though, these “comics”  hit the nail on the head. One such was The Oatmeal‘s recent rant about the various e-mails we deal with on a day to day basis. Read more…

Japanese Emoticons: A Stamp of Success

Ginghami Kaoiro Emoticon Stamp

I love the illustrational complexity of Japanese emoticons — and now you can share these silly symbols in the real world with this Ginghami Kaoiro Emoticon Stamper. To me there’s something very appealing about taking digital iconography and coming up with such a primitive analog implementation: Read more…

I Can Haz Human Progress?

Posted by Michael Pinto on Jul 4, 2010 in Tech

In this video techie pundit Clay Shirky shares his notion that Lolcats aren’t just a fun waste of time but in fact a sign of progress. His theory is that while in the past humans have had spare time that with the net this potential can be captured to produce things — even if its adding captions to cute kitty photos.

Jabba the Cat Says “Hay Lapa No Ya, Mouse!”

Posted by Michael Pinto on Apr 3, 2010 in Fandom, Star Wars

Jabba the Cat

The charm of a really good internet meme is that they’re so simple that they make you burst out laughing. Like a good bounty hunter I did my best to track down the owner of Jabba the Cat, but alas after going through tineye.com (no results), Google image search (links to several reposts) and then to various Tumblr blogs I still hit a dead end.

Captain the Internet Meme is Spotted!

Posted by Michael Pinto on Mar 12, 2010 in Fandom, Star Trek

This hilarious fan video is titled Captain Kirk Deals with a Strange Alien Culture. I have to admit that while Kirk’s solution broke the Prime Directive it still shows that he’s the best commander in the whole of Starfleet! By the way the internet meme in the video is Russian singer Eduard Anatolyevich Khil (Эдуа́рд Анато́льевич Хи́ль) giving a performance back in 1976. Read more…

Very Melon! The Latest Anime Meme Sweeping the Net

Posted by Michael Pinto on Dec 12, 2008 in Animation

Within the last hour I’ve been twittered by everyone about verymelon.com a website setup by whattheanime.com. The entire site is nothing but a looped clip (shown above) from the anime series Konjiki no Gash Bell (which translates into English as Zatch Bell! – 金色のガッシュベル!!) which is subtitled by Anime Destiny. For those not in the know the show is a fantasy themed comedy series that ran from 2003 until 2006. Read more…
