When Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013, the heists in the main game were praised as one of the best aspects of the game. However, they weren’t present in Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer mode. The game has been rereleased on PS4 and Xbox One, but the heists still aren’t in. But they’re coming! And despite the long delays — reportedly due to how implementing them in a fun, online way was much more complex than expected — Rockstar is clearly poking fun at themselves and their fans at the start of this trailer. Maybe it’ll all be worth it when they finally arrive as a free update for all versions of the game in early 2015. Read more…

Despite being associated with violent first-person shooters thanks to media attention, the Grand Theft Auto series hasn’t actually had a first-person option. But that changes with the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto V on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Perhaps to help add value to what is mostly a graphical upgrade — GTAV was already released on PS3 and Xbox 360 last fall — this new version has a first-person mode, as well as various other minor changes, mostly to Grand Theft Auto Online. It’s certainly more immersive, but seeing as the game wasn’t originally designed with this in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if it works better in certain scenarios, while others feel a bit looser. But hey, it’s a good option to have for those who want to try it. You can check it out for yourself on November 18, while PC gamers have to wait until January. Read more…

Have you tried out Grand Theft Auto Online? It’s the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto V, and it lets you roll around Los Santos with friends, taking on missions with your custom characters and fighting other players. Ideally, you’d get a good mix of progression and mayhem. In practice, it’s very easy to have all your plans go awry due to other players being crazy — you know, the way most players don’t even finish a GTA game’s story and just use it as a sandbox to play around in. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it results in moments like those found in YouTube user Jameserton’s video below. I’m not a huge multiplayer gamer, so I’m okay with sticking to the singleplayer in game’s like this. But I can’t deny the chaotic experience makes for a funny video. Read more…

Living in Los Angeles, I can attest to the fact that we barely get any sort of bad weather, much less snow. But Grand Theft Auto V‘s similar setting, Los Santos, is getting a winter make-over, along with various holiday treats. If you’re reading this on Christmas Day, you can hop into Grand Theft Auto Online and see the snow, which will also affect driving conditions. There are now special holiday items to buy such as Santa hats, snowman masks, and elf jackets, but they’re only available until January 5. There are new filters to use on your camera as you take selfies, as well as other additions like facial expressions, depth of field, and the ability to add text for easy meme pictures. And finally, some items like weapons and vehicles are up to 50% off, if you need to buy a gift for your online character or a friend. Read more…

In Grand Theft Auto V, there’s an area in the game called North Yankton that is only used for the prologue. Once the main game begins, it’s inaccessible and not on the island with the rest of Los Santos and its northern wilderness. There is, however, a way to get to it again, thanks to a glitch discovered by CVG. Basically, you start a new game and play to a certain spot, at which point a friend invites you into Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer component. Once there, you fly a helicopter to the southeast section of the map, where you’ll see floating mountains in the distance. Fly to those mountains, and you can land and explore North Yankton to your heart’s content. You can even get other people up there to play with you! Read more…

I know Grand Theft Auto is big. You know GTA is big. But sometimes it’s astounding to just see how big. Scottish newspaper The Scotsman is reporting that GTA V’s total budget (marketing and development) is $265 million. That’s way over the previous record holder, (the massive flop) Star Wars: The Old Republic at $200 million, and encroaching upon the highest budget film ever, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End at $300 million. That’s big money right there. Rockstar certainly feels they can make it back, given that GTA IV sold over 25 million copies. I love big-budget movies and games, but I still worry about how large each budget is becoming. The bigger they are, the harder they fall — not that GTA V is in danger of this. Read more…

Grand Theft Auto V is almost here, and it’s one of the biggest releases of the year, despite the upcoming next-gen consoles. I’m normally not a big GTA fan, but these trailers are definitely piquing my interest. So, with the game arriving on September 17th, Rockstar has released one more final trailer for whet your taste buds. I have no doubt this game will sell amazingly well and be super popular, but I think I’ll wait for a PC or GOTY edition release later. Too many games are coming out all at once! Read more…

Rockstar officially announced GTA Online (at least, in any real capacity) and the new trailer showing it off looks fantastic. It’s a persistent, online world were you can team up with friends to go on heists, race your large collection of cars, or just mess around in the world. Details are still a little sparse at the moment, but the whole mode seems to be very ambitious. And when things are so ambitious, you have to wonder if they can deliver. Still, they’re not rushing this out, at GTA Online won’t be available at GTA V’s launch, and will instead arrive October 1st. I’m still holding out hope for a PC version, so for now I’ll just watch from the sidelines. And watch this trailer. Read more…

If you haven’t heard, Grand Theft Auto V is going to have three main characters, all playable as you rampage around an HD version of GTA: San Andreas‘s Los Santos (a.k.a. Los Angeles). That’s pretty cool! What’s cooler is how you can play as them. In this new trailer, you’ll see how you can pick one character to play as, then switch over to another character who is living their life independent of your actions. You might even catch them in the middle of some trouble! Or, start a mission with one character, pop out to give support as another character, then pop back in to your first character. Even cooler! Rockstar is taking Grand Theft Auto V in an interesting direction when it comes to characters. The PS2 trilogy each had their own main character and city, while Grand Theft Auto IV had one main character each for the main game and its two additional episodes (expansions) that all lived and played in the same city. GTAV will have three main characters in one city in the same game, not spread across separate stories. It’ll be an interesting way to explore the world and story, though actual details of how this is implemented are still missing. Read more…

I can’t believe that it’s been ten years since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City came out. While some may prefer San Andreas‘s ridiculously sprawling map and length, to me Vice City was the best of the PS2 generation GTA games. And now it’s on mobile phones? Even if I saw it happen recently with GTAIII, it still blows my mind. These screenshots show off how crisp the game looks on iOS and Android, which makes me wish this was coming out to PS3 and Xbox 360 in HD. Admittedly, the games are quite out-dated when it comes to controls, game design, and polish, but at least they’d control better in an HD collection than with touch controls! Read more…

We knew it was coming, but now we’ve got a clearer idea of when: Grand Theft Auto V is coming as soon as Spring 2013. Rockstar North announced on their blog that the highly anticipated game would release for PS3 and Xbox 360. The company made no mention of a PC version, but PC versions of previous games in the series have typically released after the console versions. Read more…
