Oh Warner Brothers, what are we going to do with you? Not content with the start-and-stop production process of it’s other live-action anime adaptions (namely Akira), the fine folks over at Warner have picked up another property to slowly never make a movie out of: Bleach. The popular and long-running Shonen Jump manga series by Tite Kubo has spawned an equally long anime and many video games, but no live-action films yet. Looks like Warner wants to change that! I’m in a total state of shock: It seems like just yesterday that I was watching every episode of Bleach — so I was blown away to just read the it’s almost the 10th anniversary of the franchise. Such was the case with Happy Days and thus the phrase “Jumping the Shark” was born. So this is clearly a uniquely American bad habit? Wrong! We all live with the cultural myth that if you’ve got talent and work hard that at some point you’ll be discovered. But the sad reality is that there are some very talented people out there who kill themselves their entire lives and still go absolutely nowhere. And even for these of us who do manage to make a living with our creative skills know that it’s not an easy path. So whenever you see nepotism it’s a pretty bitter pill to swallow. Read more…
