If you’re painfully waiting for the new A Song of Ice and Fire book, the Winds of Winter, author George R.R. Martin is here to ease your pain ever so slightly. Martin has taken to often posting a few chapters while he spends much time writing the next book, as a way to placate the masses. And hey, it’s nice to get updates on the story so far. This new excerpt is an “Alayne” chapter, so if you haven’t read all the current books and don’t know who that is, proceed no further! Martin says he has canceled several convention appearances to work on the book in hopes of finishing it… sooner or later. The fifth season of the HBO TV series Game of Thrones begins April 12th. George R.R. Martin Teases The Winds of Winter

Posted by Ben Huber on Jun 27, 2014 in Fandom

CS 67 26th October 2010

Spoiler-sensitive readers beware! George R.R. Martin has been teasing The Winds of Winter, the next book in the popular Song of Ice and Fire series (aka Game of Thrones) in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. If you’re not caught up, don’t look at this next quote: “We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages.” He also confirms what many fans long knew, that two large battles would be opening the book (one in the North and one in Mereen). He also touches on Dany and Tyrion meeting (“Well, Tyrion and Dany will intersect, in a way, but for much of the book they’re still apart”), and also that the Dothraki would be returning “in a big way.” There’re a few more details at EW, but those are the biggest tidbits. When’s the book coming out, you ask? Words are wind, my friend. Sometime. Someday. Read more…

Rumor: Telltale Developing Game of Thrones Video Game

Posted by Ben Huber on Nov 23, 2013 in Videogames

got

We haven’t had too much luck with video games based off of the Game of Thrones series. The last one was pretty lackluster and didn’t really do anything interesting. However, our luck might be about to change: IGN is running that they’ve heard from multiple sources that Telltale Games (the makers of the famed Walking Dead games) have gotten the license to Game of Thrones. IGN admits that they’re not sure whether the license is for the books or the TV show, though, and having the rights to the HBO version would allow them to use the likenesses of the characters, presumably. However, it could also tell a story that avoids any characters from the books, too. There’s a lot of possibilities here, so I hope we hear something soon. Read more…

Game of Thrones Season 3 Teaser

Posted by Ben Huber on Jan 13, 2013 in Television

got

Oh look, a three-eyed raver flying through the sky! Oh wait, that’s our world! Maybe this new season of Game of Thrones is going to be way different from what we expected. Or perhaps HBO is just creating a long and needless metaphor for their tagline. But maybe you’re sitting there thinking, “man I wish March 31st would be here sooner.” It’s what we’re all thinking, my friend. Certain events that will transpire in the third season are going to be so earth-shattering that even George R.R. Martin is considering going on a vacation around that time, without internet or phone. That’s how you know this is going to be good. Read more…

Target: Joffrey Baratheon Poster now Available

Posted by Ben Huber on Sep 16, 2012 in Television

joffrey

Need some way to let your anger out in between Game of Thrones seasons? Joffrey Baratheon has the wonderful honor of being one of the most disliked characters in the series, and possibly TV right now. 604Republic, as a result, has put up a humorous print of Joffrey, that you can use as target practice. This was floating around for a while as a joke online, but now you can finally own it for yourself! 604Republic also has a Direwolf Winter Lager poster which is also neat, but not quite as well- made as the Joffrey design. Check them out! Read more…

Game of Thrones Playing Cards Need to be Real

Posted by Ben Huber on Aug 26, 2012 in Television

Playing cards are a dime-a-dozen, so you have to really stand out with cool artwork or designs to catch people’s attention. Jim Tuckwell did just that, with his excellent and stylish Game of Thrones-themed playing cards. He’s only just begun, with Ned Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, and Tyrion Lannister, but they look great so far. His plans include all four card suits, with Varys and Littlefinger as Jokers. I hope he finishes the whole set – because I’d like them! Click through to see the cards he’s done. Read more…

Sigils of the Houses of Westeros Poster is Slick

Posted by Ben Huber on Aug 24, 2012 in Design

When designer Darrin Crescenzi got into A Song of Ice and Fire, aka Game of Thrones, he did what many of us did: look for awesome posters! Ok, maybe not many of us, but it’s what I did. Darrin found that there weren’t many compelling designs featuring the sigils of each house, so he made one himself – and it looks fantastic! It’s 18″ x 24″ with gold foil stamp, which gives it a little pop, and is available from his online store for $35. It’ll look right at home on your wall, and probably get a few Game of Thrones discussions going too! Read more…

A Game of Thrones Finale Review: OMGWTFCoK!

Posted by Gia Manry on Jun 20, 2011 in Fandom, Television

110620 - GoT

HBO aired the last episode of its adaptation of Game of Thrones, the first book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, last night, and by and large the response is: OMGWTFCoK! CoK, of course, referring to A Clash of Kings— the second book in the series, which HBO will also adapt. And which everyone who watched all of Game of Thrones is now salivating for (even if they already read the novels).

But before we get too excited for the second season, which hasn’t even been slated for broadcast yet, let’s talk about what HBO did right (and wrong) with the series so far. (Spoilers: they did almost everything right.) Read more…

Get Ready to Dance with Dragons on July 12th

Posted by Michael Sacco on Mar 4, 2011 in Pulp Fiction

A Dance With Dragons

The next book in George R. R. Martin’s much-loved A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Dance with Dragons, has been due for quite a while. It’s had release dates from 2007 all the way through this year! But fans of the series can now rejoice — a hard release date of July 12th, 2011 has been set for Dance. Judging by Martin’s rate of producing work, it’ll be some time before you get the next book in the series, so you should enjoy this one while it lasts. And at 900+ pages, that should be quite a while. Read more…

Game of Thrones’ HBO Premiere Gets Dated

Posted by Michael Sacco on Jan 9, 2011 in Television

A Game of Thrones

A Game of Thrones, the first book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels, is getting its crack at breaking into another media type: television, courtesy of HBO. Sean Bean is even in it, proving that there’s no fantasy series that he can’t improve. And if you want to catch it, you’d better tune your DVR for Sunday, April 17th, because that’s when the series will premiere, according to Entertainment Weekly. Martin himself seems pretty excited about the series, though he notes that fans shouldn’t have unrealistic expectations of the series’ quality: “We don’t have Peter Jackson’s budget!,” he says. Even with that in mind, though, the show looks like it’ll be pretty fancy for a TV fantasy show. Maybe the fanciest ever. Read more…
