I know you guys are excited for this game because my Twitter and Facebook feeds have been lighting up as the game grows closer to release. Well wait no longer, because it’s out now! Nintendo has also uploaded a launch unboxing video to promote the game’s special edition 3DS XL. And if you’re completely lost on the appeal of Animal Crossing, fear not! Giant Bomb recently did a Quick Look of the game, featuring the crew running through each others’ houses. It’s great fun and one of the most laid-back games out there. Check it out below. Read more…

Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct yesterday to promote two of the big upcoming summer 3DS games from Capcom: Monster Hunter 4 and Ace Attorney 5. While this was a Japan-centric event, that doesn’t mean we don’t get two new trailers to check out, as well as images of new promotional 3DS XL systems for MH4. But the best thing to come out of this Direct? An image of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata as the Ace Attorney himself, Phoenix Wright. I’d say the blue suit looks good on him (and he’s doing Iwata’s “direct” hand gesture too). Check out the images and trailers below! Read more…

Nintendo isn’t playing by the rules at this year’s E3. Instead of holding a big press conference like previous years, they’ll be relying completely on their Nintendo Direct webcast, a series of announcements that have been doing quite well for Nintendo. But beyond that, you’ll be able to play their line-up at certain Best Buy stores across the United States and Canada. Called the “Nintendo Experience,” you can visit these Best Buy stores on June 12 from 4-8PM and on June 15 from 1-5PM to try out demos of Nintendo’s newest games for 3DS and Wii U. Read more…

Nintendo had announced during a recent Nintendo Direct that Sega was making a new Sonic game exclusively for Wii U and 3DS. Now there’s a trailer for the game, titled Sonic Lost World. While parts of the trailer may make many wary — there are several new characters, which are always the weakest part of the game — there is something interesting going on that seems to reference an earlier, canceled Sonic game. So who would win in a fight: Superman or Batman? How about a different Superman or Batman? How about all the Supermen and Batmen? Get ready to pair off characters, because reportedly every DC character is going to be in Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, a new game for 3DS, Wii U, and PC this fall. The new game is making an attempt to get all the various versions of characters in, with reports that there will be 33 different Batmen and 133 Green Lanterns. Read more…

Nintendo just released their latest Nintendo Direct, their online press conference to the masses that’s full of new information from the normally tight-lipped company. As usual, it’s full of charming new titles, awkward yet endearing executives talking, and a few surprises. Let’s run down the big announcements, most of which are centered on 3DS. Read more…

Sick and tired of the grind in Farmville? Why not chill out with the latest Animal Crossing game? Animal Crossing: New Leaf is coming to North American 3DS owners on June 9 (not today, like the trailer implies), and it looks like a game where you can do…things! I’ll be honest, I have never completely understood the appeal of this series, which has you gardening, decorating your house, talking with animal neighbors, and just sort of goofing around. But it’s popular enough to get a new installment on every Nintendo system since the GameCube, and this 3DS game is a giant hit in Japan, so it must be doing something right! Read more…

In what is very good news for JRPG fans, Atlus has announced through their Atlus Faithful emailer that Shin Megami Tensei IV will be out on 3DS in North America this summer! With Final Fantasy becoming less about actual gameplay and more about either pretty visuals or shallow nostalgia grabs, Shin Megami Tensei (and spinoffs like the popular Persona series) is slowly emerging as the flag-bearer for JRPG fans who want some substance in the games they play. Japanese developer GAME FREAK has been pretty busy. While recently they’ve been working almost exclusively on the Pokemon game franchise, they’ve taken a bit of time to create a new 3DS eShop game called Harmoknight. It’s a rhythm game in which you play as a young knight called Tempo as he beats up enemies and notes in a side-scrolling world. The game has a great art style that reminds me a bit of older Japanese manga or perhaps Dragon Quest, mixed with sensibilities from modern US cartoons. You can download it right to your 3DS from the eShop today for $14.99. Read more…

The next mainline Shin Megami Tensei game comes out for 3DS in Japan on May 23. Shin Megami Tensei IV continues the series tradition of mixing demons, the occult, and modern day Japan. Atlus has put out a five-minute trailer showing tons of footage. Interestingly enough, there’s a shot of a Demonica armor suit, which appeared in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey on DS, once considered to be SMT IV before this new game was announced. Read more…

It’s true! That rare and elusive Pikachu 3DS XL from Japan will be making its way overseas, arriving on March 24th. So yes, now you can get your hands on this bright-yellow, electrified 3DS. Given that it’s coming out next week, it’s a bit surprising that Target will have it on sale for $159.99, but it will a limited edition. No news on how “limited” that will be, though. I would recommend getting it though, if you want it, because who knows how long it’ll be around. Click here to see it in the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon commercial, or more images on the Pokemon site here. Read more…

It has been a dry post-launch period for Wii U owners, with not a whole lot coming out. In hindsight, it’s almost good that Pikmin 3 got delayed until early this year, since at least there will be a must-buy game coming out for those desperate for new games. But before then, Nintendo has a small side-project to share: short Pikmin cartoons.

Been looking to finally get into the Monster Hunter series? You’ve probably heard how it’s a runaway success in Japan and have been wondering when we’ll we see it on this side of the pond – well Nintendo and Capcom are giving you a chance to try out the games before their release on March 19th. You can now download the demos for it on either the 3DS or Wii U eShop to try your hand at the series. Are you ready to have a little more Luigi in your life? Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is on it’s way to 3DS on March 24th, but Nintendo decided to go all-out and declare 2013 the Year of Luigi. In addition to that game, Nintendo also announced a new Mario & Luigi game, subtitled Dream Team. Coming this summer, it’s a new installment in the popular RPG series, featuring Mario going into Luigi’s dreams, while Luigi snores soundly on the bottom screen. Lastly, they also mentioned new DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U, which when activated, will change the existing levels into 80+ new courses only for Luigi. Appropriately titled New Super Luigi U, this DLC is also planned for this year. Check out some footage of these games below! Read more…

I know that Animal Crossing fans have been frothing at the mouth in anticipation of the next installment in the series (I know because I’m dating one). But the wait is finally over, as yesterday’s Nintendo Direct brough the best Valentine’s Day gift of all: game announcements and release dates. The always dreamy Bill Trinen confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Leaf will launch on June 9th, just a few days before E3 this year. He also mentioned that a new online functionality feature was being added to the game for the US release, but declined to mention what it was. Best part? No more doing chores for Tom Nook! Now you get to be the mayor! Watch the trailer after the break. Read more…

Nintendo was teasing a major Pokemon announcement, and the latest Nintendo Direct delivered. Despite the 3DS being out for almost two years, Nintendo hasn’t made a main Pokemon game for it yet, with Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 getting a DS release. Now, Nintendo has confirmed an October 2013 release for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, which features the main games’ first ever 3D world, more dynamic 3D battles, and of course a slew of new pokemon to make up Generation 6. We knew that Atlus was making an updated port of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, a spin-off of their massive Shin Megami Tensei franchise that includes the cult favorite Persona. However, there was no previous indication that the game would make its way west. Thankfully, Atlus is pulling through, announcing to their Atlus Faithful email subscribers that Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers will be released in North America come Spring 2013. Fans of the Blue Bomber haven’t had the best luck lately. With Mega Man Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe getting canceled, and a lazy mash-up game called Mega Man Xover being released on iOS, the fans need some loving. Capcom is finally throwing them a bone by not only allowing but assisting in a fan-made PC game called Street Fighter X Mega Man, where Mega Man fights through new levels to battle 8-bit versions of Street Fighter characters. Game Freak, the studio that makes the main Pokemon games with Nintendo, is putting out their first non-Pokemon game since 2006’s Drill Dozer. Rhythm Hunter Harmo Knight is their take on the runner genre, with a fantasy hero running automatically while the player controls the jumps and attacks. Each stage is a song, as the hero must gather notes and whack enemies in time with the music. And while this was previously only announced for Japan, Nintendo confirmed a Western release during their latest Nintendo Direct! Read more…

Atlus is keeping it old-school with its Etrian Odyssey series. The player controls a party and traverses dunegons while fighting monsters. It’s like Wizardry, but far more modern. But some things never change, like the need to draw your own map as you go along, like people did back in the NES days. I respect that fact that some developers are keeping alive old traditions like that in an era where many games involve following an arrow down a straight corridor, in terms of how much freedom you’re granted. There’s a new game coming up, Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan, and there’s a new trailer showing off what it’s like.

Hopefully some of you know of the excellent downloadable game for 3DS, Pushmo. It was developed by Intelligent Systems, the makers of Fire Emblem and Paper, as a puzzle game with a twist, blocks can only move forward and backward, and you must clamber across them to reach the top. Now, Nintendo has released the sequel, Crashmo, which introduces gravity and a whole host of other gameplay ideas into the equation. I’ve only spent a few hours with it, but it’s already been an absolute blast. It also features the return of the level creator, so you can make your own puzzles and share them via QR codes. If you have a 3DS, make sure to check it out! Read more…

Check out the new limited edition Japan-exclusive 3DS that Nintendo is dangling in front of our faces – a Charizard-themed Pokemon 3DS. The cover is pretty cool, right? Nice design and it looks slick – and then you open it up and see the flames rippling across the back. Kudos to whichever artist at Nintendo came up with that one… pretty clever! Much like the Pikachu 3DS XL from earlier this year, you need to enter a drawing and win to be eligible to even pre-order this system. Hopefully this will eventually show up here – the Pikachu one is making an appearance in Europe, so there is some small sliver of hope! Read more…

If you’re a diehard fan of the Animal Crossing series, then you’re sure to be very excited by the recent Japanese Nintendo Direct video released online by the House of Mario. It’s a 47-minute long video promoting the new features of the upcoming 3DS version of the game, which arrives in Japan this November, and early 2013 here in the US. While it’s all in Japanese, NeoGAF member StreetsAhead (who is definitely streets ahead) has translated much of the video here. Some of the highlights are below the break. Read more…

What’s this, Nintendo is giving away a game if you buy some other games? The last time I got something from Nintendo in a deal like this was the Gamecube’s The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition, back before Nintendo realized how much their old games were worth. While the game on offer isn’t anywhere near as awesome as Zelda, it is somewhat rarer, since it has never been released in America before. Read more…
