Pizza Hut App Comes To Xbox 360

Posted by Bob Muir on Apr 24, 2013 in Videogames

Pizza Hut on 360

Consider this a combination of a PSA and a weird interest story. Apparently due to popular demand (I know, I’m surprised too), Microsoft and Pizza Hut have made a Pizza Hut app for Xbox 360. Yes, that’s right, instead of going on any number of other devices, you can use your Xbox 360 to order pizza. Of course there is prominent Kinect support, and you can have it automatically tell your Facebook friends what you’re eating for dinner. This is a real thing that’s happening. Read more…

Ratchet & Clank Get Animated In A Feature-Length Film

Posted by Bob Muir on Apr 24, 2013 in Animation, Cinema, Videogames

Ratchet & Clank

Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank franchise has been a beautiful cartoony series of games for a while now. So as news breaks that there is a Ratchet & Clank movie in the works, I’d like to say that I’m completely surprised, but really, it makes sense. Insomniac has some established, likable characters, and considering how the game already looks like a cartoon, this isn’t too much of a stretch. The only surprise is that this will be theatrically released instead of just releasing direct-to-DVD.

The Lesson of Apple: Exciting isn’t a Good Thing

Posted by Michael Pinto on Apr 23, 2013 in Tech

The Original iPod

Being a tech nerd I recently came across this terrified plea on Hacker News:

“There hasn’t been much excitement or rumors about what Apple will do next. Is the next version of iPhone really all that exciting anymore? What do you think Apple will do to stay current; or would you think that with the lose of Steve Jobs, Apple will expire? There’s the iWatch speculation/rumor, but is this all that interesting? What is so exciting about an iPhone on your wrist? Or do you think Apple is developing some cool device using graphene? A watch that could unfold into an iPhone then further unfold into an tablet would be amazing. But, I don’t feel like Apple will be pulling this rabbit out of their hat. What do you think?” Read more…

Star Trek Into Darkness Preview Puts Spock In A Bad Situation

Posted by Bob Muir on Apr 23, 2013 in Cinema, Star Trek

Star Trek Into Darkness

Some of you may have seen this clip from Star Trek Into Darkness if you saw the IMAX prologue released with The Hobbit, but for many of you this will be new. There’s stuff going down on a planet with a volcano, and the young Captain Kirk must grapple with the Prime Directive as he makes a decision. Of course, there’s no resolution in this clip, but that’s why you’re going to go see the movie on May 17, 2013, right? Consider this another little morsel to tease your appetite. Read more…

The Evil Within, New Horror Game From Shinji Mikami

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 22, 2013 in Videogames

evilwithin

Shinji Mikami wants to go out with a bang. He says things like “this will be my last game.” Don’t worry! He just wants to move into a more management-style and producer position. He’ll still be helping to make games – so quit your whining, internet. Anyway, the game is called The Evil Within, and it’s being published by Bethesda. It looks pretty cool, but this announcement trailer looks to be all live-action. I’m interested in seeing video footage of the actual game soon. Still, it sets the tone pretty well, and even Hideki Kamiya said he wet his pants from being so scared. Read more…

Amazon Studios Puts 14 Pilots Online

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 21, 2013 in Television

It looks like even Amazon isn’t sure what show they want to make into a full series, because they’re leaving it up to viewers online! Amazon Studios has put up the first 14 TV series pilots on their site for your perusal. Most notable will probably be the Zombieland TV series, as well as a series based on The Onion. Let’s just say though… this Zombieland series looks pretty poor. Given the rush this was made on though, it’s not particularly surprising. Hopefully there will be one or two standout series in the pile of 14 – I haven’t dug into them yet. Check out the full list here. Read more…

Little Witch Academia Available for Free on Youtube

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 21, 2013 in Anime

lwa

Many people have been sadden that popular animation studio GAINAX has become an empty shell of its once impressive stature. What many might not know is that GAINAX legendary, Hiroyuki Imaishi, the director of Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking, character designer on FLCL, as well as a multitude of other projects, has formed his own studio. Studio Trigger was founded by Imaishi along with Masahiko Ohtsuka. Yoh Yoshinari is also working there, and their project for Anime Mirai, a government job booster program, has finally arrived on YouTube, fully subbed and completely free. I have high hopes for Trigger, and Little Witch Academia is a beautiful omen for the future. Trigger is currently working on a new anime series that will air sometime later this year. Read more…

Power Glove Oven Mitt: Yes, It’s Real

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 20, 2013 in Fandom, Videogames

powerglove

I hereby promise to not make any Powergloves jokes in regards to the famous movie line from The Wizard. I won’t do it, no sir. It cheap and easy humor. And you deserve better than that, fine readers. Fangamer has been putting quality game-related merchandise for a while now. It’s satisfyingly nerdy while not obnoxiously screaming “VIDEOGAMES,” and I love that. Their latest product is an oven mitt fashioned to look like the classic Nintendo peripheral, the Power Glove. It’s functional and fun! You can pick it up here for $15.00 and check out Fangamer’s other awesome stuff while you’re there. Read more…

Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars Filibuster

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 20, 2013 in Fandom, Star Wars

patton

Patton Oswalt is a wonderful, fantastic dude. He’s able to be both funny and articulate, and he made a guest appearance on Parks and Recreation, filibustering the City Council… By reciting his entire plan for the next Star Wars movie, as well as the trilogy as a whole. It starts off pretty solid, and then it gets amazing. I won’t spoil it too much, but lets just say Tony Stark is involved. It’s good stuff. Check out all 8 minutes of his plot below in the video. AMC Teams Up With Joseph Kosinski for New Sci-Fi TV Show

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 19, 2013 in Television

amc

With the runaway success of the Walking Dead, AMC has been struggling to find another show to pair with it. Typically, the show immediately following TWD is The Talking Dead, which is thoroughly uninteresting to me, but apparently loved by millions if the ratings are anything to go by. So: AMC has teamed up with Tron: Legacy and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski and the Pacific Rim scribe (Travis Beachman) to create a new sci-fi show that they hope will reach the same heights. We don’t have many details on the moment, but AMC is pitching it as “Blade Runner meets Battlestar Galactica.” Read more…

R.I.P.D.

On July 19, Universal will release their movie adaptation of the comic R.I.P.D., a story about an afterlife police force. Ryan Reynolds plays a man who has just died and is assigned to the Rest In Peace Department, an organization that makes sure dead things stay dead and don’t interfere with the living world. To this end, he’s teamed up with Jeff Bridges to help him learn the ropes.

Posted by Bob Muir on Apr 18, 2013 in Videogames

Iwata and Luigis

Nintendo just released their latest Nintendo Direct, their online press conference to the masses that’s full of new information from the normally tight-lipped company. As usual, it’s full of charming new titles, awkward yet endearing executives talking, and a few surprises. Let’s run down the big announcements, most of which are centered on 3DS. Read more…

Latest Man Of Steel Trailer Looks Amazing

Posted by Bob Muir on Apr 17, 2013 in Cinema, Comic Books

Man of Steel

As much as I wanted to remain cautiously optimistic, bordering on disbelieving, of Man of Steel, this new trailer has won me over. Sure, I’m still not confident in Zack Snyder’s ability to direct, and I’m not the biggest Superman fan, but now I’m immensely interested in what this movie may do with Superman. And though it was in the first trailer, that shot of Superman taking off still gives me chills. Watch it now! Read more…

Project Unity

Do you own a bunch of retro videogame consoles but can’t decide which to hook up to your TV? Why not plug them all in? That’s what the modder Bacteria decided to do, putting 15 consoles with the ability to play 18 consoles worth of games inside of a single box. He hid away the memory cards and made a franken-controller that uses overlays and modded NES cartridges to add specific functionality. Read more…

A Dramatic Spiderman Reading by the Late Nick Pollotta

Posted by Michael Pinto on Apr 16, 2013 in Comic Books, Fandom

Sadly on April 12th science fiction humorist Nick Pollotta passed away after a battle with cancer. In addition to his writing Nick also had a background of doing standup comedy and was active in fandom going back to the 80s — above is a video of him performing a dramatic reading of the old Spiderman theme song.

General Zod Teases Man Of Steel Via Garbled Video

Posted by Bob Muir on Apr 16, 2013 in Cinema, Comic Books

General Zod

Though this ad for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is a “viral” video, it requires some suspension of disbelief. The idea is that General Zod is trying to contact our world to turn over Superman, or get Superman to turn over himself. Normally, I’d think this would be done on TV, and this ad was shown during the MTV Movie Awards. But it premiered online first, and this video is on YouTube. So I suppose I’m expected to believe that General Zod recorded this with the intent to put it online, where people might see it. Read more…

LEGO Space Kraken Eats Star Destroyer

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 15, 2013 in Hobbies and Collections

Not sure how often I’ll get to write that headline!

Iain Heath has put together a massively impressive LEGO model of a Space Kraken taking down the Super Star Destroyer. The SSD has a bit of a reputation in the LEGO community as a big, boring, grey model, so Iain took matters into his own hands and spruced it up with a big splash of color. It was on display at the Emerald City Comicon this year and has now moved to its new resting place at Tableau Software in Seattle. Really impressive work! Read more…

Shovel Knight Kickstarter a Rousing Success

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 15, 2013 in Videogames

shovel_knight

By now you have probably heard about Shovel Knight and its Kickstarter: the game is to be a pixelated love letter to 8-bit games, made by ex-Wayforward Studios staff. They’re some good people, and folks love classic games, so the chance to help support a new 8-bit game really caught the internet’s attention. Yacht Club Games asked for $75,000 to complete the game and has completed the Kickstarter with a massive $311,502. They’ve added tons of bonuses and stretch goals to the project and have met every single one. If you still want to pledge or pre-order the game, you can do so via PayPal. The game is set to release this winter. However, it still needs to be voted up on Steam Greenlight to get on the digital distribution service. Read more…

Be Iron Man at Disneyland

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 14, 2013 in Cinema

imt010641LARGE

Now you can finally live out the act of having Iron Man’s armor fly onto your body in dramatic fashion. This weekend marks the beginning of a new Iron Man Attraction at Disneyland as part of the Innovations exhibit. There will be Iron Man suits on display, as well as a Kinect look-alike system of having an Iron Man suit track your body so it looks like you’re in the suit. Pretty nifty, but I think I’d rather look like a dork in the comfort of my own home. Would be cool to see all those suits though. Read more…

Ace Attorney 5 Japanese Release Date Accidentally Posted

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 14, 2013 in Videogames

aa5

Ace Attorney 5 has been in my vision for a while, mainly due to the fact that I’m a diehard fan of the series, but also due to seeing how well it can make the jump to 3D. Sure, the return of Phoenix Wright is expected, and he’s got a new young female sidekick, but I love the direction they’re taking Apollo Justice, making him the bandaged renegade, rising from the ashes. Hopefully it’s not too much of a turn of character. Anyway, Capcom recently updated their official site for AA5, but accidentally left the release date on it: July 25th. Read more…
