I would have thought that Doctor Who mania would be in full swing, since 2013 is such a major milestone in Doctor Who history. It’s been 50 years since the broadcast of the first episode, “An Unearthly Child,” but other than a 60-minute anniversary special, there are only a few minor things being done. And what’s the deal with one 60-minute special? There should be some two-hour extravaganza, with as many Doctors returning as possible, a la the 25th anniversary’s The Five Doctors. (Plus, the season leading up to it featured the return of previous villains.) Ah well, at least the special will…be in theaters…and in 3D? Read more…

Hey! This is actually a pretty clever box set! The Walking Dead season 3 Blu-ray box set, made by McFarlane Toys, will recreate one of the most creepy and disturbing bits from the series: the Governor’s wall of preserved zombie heads. It’s been made to light up, and the best part is you can fill it up with your own water, so it’ll look like the actual fish tanks the Governor has. Granted, we don’t know when this will come out, as the second half of season 3 will only start airing tomorrow night, but sometime this year you’ll be able to own your own collection of decapitated zombie heads. Take solace in that fact. Read more…

HBO is loving Game of Thrones as much as its fans, and with good reason: the show is a cross-over hit. Season three begins on March 31, and like many people, they’re eager for anything with George R.R. Martin’s name on it. So it’s no surprise that Martin has signed a two-year deal with HBO to continue as co-executive producer on Game of Thrones. But that’s not all! Martin will also be developing and producing new shows for HBO. Read more…

Now here’s an impressive Doctor Who figure for your collection from the folks at Big Chief: the 10th Doctor, in 1:6 scale. It’s their third figure in the series (after Amy Pond and the 11th Doctor), and is limited to 1000 units. They did an excellent job on the sculpt here, and even though there’s only one face to choose from, it’s probably the best one you could go with for David Tennant anyway. This figure releases in July for £169.99. They do ship outside of Europe, so don’t worry, you can still order it and get your Doctor Who fix. Check out some more images below! Read more…

Zombieland has had a long and storied past. Initially it was going to be a TV show, but when stations passed on it due to “zombies not being ‘in’ right now” it was turned into a film. Then, the zombie fad began, and the movie arrived at the perfect time, riding the wave of popularity. So what do you do now? Grab those old Zombieland TV show scripts, rough them up a bit, throw in a few references to Twitter, and you’ve got yourself a hit series. Maybe. Casting calls have gone out, so possibly, we may see different actors in the character’s roles, which might throw people off. i09 has several more details about the casting call, but in my opinion, we don’t need to revisit our friends in Zombieland anytime soon. As any good Star Trek fan knows, the original captain before James T. Kirk was Captain Christopher Pike. He starred in the failed pilot “The Cage,” which was salvaged for the two-part episode “The Menagerie.” But at the time, it seemed as though actor Jeffrey Hunter would be sticking with the series. And while his vision of what Star Trek would be was somewhat close to what it ultimately turned out to be, there was a key difference about what the show was actually about. Read more…

Oh look, a three-eyed raver flying through the sky! Oh wait, that’s our world! Maybe this new season of Game of Thrones is going to be way different from what we expected. Or perhaps HBO is just creating a long and needless metaphor for their tagline. But maybe you’re sitting there thinking, “man I wish March 31st would be here sooner.” It’s what we’re all thinking, my friend. Certain events that will transpire in the third season are going to be so earth-shattering that even George R.R. Martin is considering going on a vacation around that time, without internet or phone. That’s how you know this is going to be good. Read more…

I’m sure this whole “split season” thing is great for ratings. Twice the season finales! Twice the season premieres! More advertising! But man is it frustrating for viewers. Getting right into the swing of things and suddenly the rug is pulled out from underneath you. Thankfully, the wait isn’t long, as the second half of Walking Dead season 3 is coming back February 10th, and AMC is pumping out the previews. Below we have two new videos (a clip and a trailer) to whet your appetite for more zombies. Read more…

Over the past holidays, Greg Kumparak decided to do a bit of tinkering while on a Doctor Who-fueled creative streak. The result? He built his own minature TARDIS… that’s bigger on the inside. Now, you need a cell phone to see the inside, but this is one of the coolest and most unique uses of augmented reality. Using the phone, you can look inside the TARDIS’ door and see the entirety of the inside from your mobile perspective. He blogged about the whole process involved in making it here, and uploaded a video so you can see it in action. Watch it below! He says he’s hoping to post more info soon on how to make this yourself! Read more…

Sadly my guess is that most fanboys under the age of 40 will never quite appreciate Gerry Anderson the way that I might, because I think his very best work was aimed at children. So if your childhood started after say 1975 this shows that he made wouldn’t quite have the same magical qualities. So for those of you who are too young even at age 40 let me take you back to back to the year 1975 when I was only ten years old: Read more…

The BBC reports that the Royal Mail will be releasing an official set of Doctor Who stamps to honor the the 50th anniversary of the show. Hmm, now what do we have here? Just as the Walking Dead was getting good, Glen Mazzara decides to leave? AMC has announced that The Walking Dead will be renewed for a fourth season, but that Glen Mazzara will be leaving after season three. A telling quote was, “Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward and conclude that it is best to part ways,” which says to me that AMC is being stubborn again. Here’s a quick link to start off your week: GQ recently had an interview with the people behind the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones season 2, “Blackwater.” George R.R. Martin, who wrote the script for that episode, features in it, along with the show’s creators, Dan Weiss and David Benioff. They also speak with Neil Marshall, the director of the episode, who was contacted a few days before work on the episode started for the job. Sounds crazy! There’s a lot of unique tidbits in the full interview, and it’s nice to see a look into the process behind filming, including how they begged HBO for another $2 million just for the “Blackwater” episode. For everything on the internet, there is a parody version. I’m pretty sure this is basically law now, so I suppose there is no surprise in the title: a Game of Thrones parody of Seinfeld. This might be offensive to some of you, given that the sitcom is the “lowest form of television,” and it’s being combined with some of the best. But joking aside, if you ever wanted to see how Game of Thrones would fare with a laugh track, now you know. Strangely, it feels more like I stepped into an alternate universe rather than a simple edit. Read more…

Superheroes are big business in entertainment, even more so after the spectacular success of The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises this year. It’s not that surprising that we’d see a comic book character adapted into a TV series, which is what the CW is doing with Arrow, a live-action take of Green Arrow. But just as comics are becoming more accepted in the mainstream, Arrow seems to be doing its best to distance itself from its origins, as shown in this three-minute featurette. Read more…

You may have heard that Game of Thrones episode Valar Morghulis won an Emmy for best special effects, done by Pixomondo. Ever wondered how they were done? The CGBro has posted a video featuring swipes at how Pixomondo built the world of the Seven Kingdoms, and how they made it seem so believable. And, of course, the dragons. Everyone wants to see more about the dragons. Must be hard working with invisible co-stars! Read more…

The modern Doctor Who may not be as targeted towards children like the classic series, but that doesn’t mean kids can’t enjoy it. Just ask Lindalee Rose, a four-year-old fan of the show. Though barely in pre-school, she knows all the characters and aliens, though she adorably insists on saying “Doctor Who” instead of “The Doctor.” And of course, she has her own opinions on the newest episodes. Need some way to let your anger out in between Game of Thrones seasons? Joffrey Baratheon has the wonderful honor of being one of the most disliked characters in the series, and possibly TV right now. 604Republic, as a result, has put up a humorous print of Joffrey, that you can use as target practice. This was floating around for a while as a joke online, but now you can finally own it for yourself! 604Republic also has a Direwolf Winter Lager poster which is also neat, but not quite as well- made as the Joffrey design. Check them out! Read more…

Are you getting hyped for the upcoming third season of The Walking Dead? My optimism is wrapped in a bundle of gross rags called ‘caution.’ I’m sure somehow that metaphor makes sense to someone. Maybe. Either way, this new trailer for season 3 of the zombie-filled TV series is short, but gives a few new glimpses at characters, as well as the prison where Rick and the gang hole up. Will our buddies over at AMC be able to make a more compelling show this time around? We’ll find out October 14th, less than a month away. Read more…

While his fans are surely happy that Joss Whedon was simply working on another TV series, the fact that it’s set in the Marvel universe is probably some very heavy icing on the cake. After seeing his handiwork with The Avengers — he even made me somewhat appreciate Thor after a horrible solo movie — I’m sold on his plans to bring the military/spy/secret agent organization S.H.I.E.L.D. to the small screen. Now Whedon is hinting at what form the series may take. Read more…

Robot Chicken always does some amazing specials, and it looks like their upcoming DC Comics special will be no exception. Seth Green went on Conan to promote the special with a short clip featuring Aquaman. I’m sure you can all figure out where it’s going from here. I’d guess they picked a clip to appeal to more mainstream audiences, but the Robot Chicken guys always deliver solid stuff, so I’m excited to watch it. Playing cards are a dime-a-dozen, so you have to really stand out with cool artwork or designs to catch people’s attention. Jim Tuckwell did just that, with his excellent and stylish Game of Thrones-themed playing cards. He’s only just begun, with Ned Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, and Tyrion Lannister, but they look great so far. His plans include all four card suits, with Varys and Littlefinger as Jokers. I hope he finishes the whole set – because I’d like them! Click through to see the cards he’s done. Read more…
