Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will start airing Tuesdays this September on ABC. Clark Gregg’s Marvel Cinematic Universe character Phil Coulson is back as a main character, showing that rumors (or outright depictions) of his death were greatly exaggerated, and I couldn’t be happier. Check out this new featurette to see why. Sure, Grant Ward looks alright, but what’s great is when he shares a scene with Coulson. Here’s hoping the writing remains as good as the pilot written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen seems to be. Read more…

You thought you’d have a break from news about Game of Thrones now that the third season was over (and I’m sure many of you are still collecting your emotions over that), but guess what? Now casting begins! One of the most important roles to cast for next season is the Red Viper, Prince Oberyn Martell. HBO has wasted no time in casting this role, and have announced that Chilean actor Pedro Pascal will be the man for the job. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss released a statement saying, “the Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back.” There are a few minor spoilers in the EW article, so tread lightly. Read more…

Christmas may have come early for fans of classic Doctor Who. In the 70s, the BBC began a shortsighted policy of wiping old tapes for new use. Since all of the serials featuring the First and Second Doctors were in black-and-white, which was considered to have little potential for sales now that color TV was ubiquitous (and a home video market didn’t exist), they were some of the first episodes on the chopping block. (Even some Third Doctor material was wiped, though missing episodes were recovered, even if some were only found in black-and-white.) As a result, these early episodes are only extant thanks to private collectors or copies sent to other countries; anything not found has been reconstructed by fans based on telesnaps, fan-recorded audio, and other materials. Experts like Ian Levine believe that there will never be less than 106 missing episodes, mainly centered on the Second Doctor. And yet, there are now rumors that a whopping 90 episodes have been recovered. Read more…

The latest battle for viewership is being fought on subscription services like Netflix and Hulu Plus. Original shows like House of Cards are proving to be draws, and Netflix’s exclusive season four of Arrested Development could be a major win for the service. In light of this and the renewed popularity of Star Trek thanks to J.J. Abrams’ rebooted films, has led some fans to try and resurrect Star Trek TV series on Netflix. The only thing is that the prime candidate is Star Trek: Enterprise, of all things. Read more…

I know that a big company can make almost anything happen, but I’m still kind of giddy to see what Marvel is accomplishing with their Marvel Cinematic Universe. I was still uncertain that Joss Whedon’s proposed TV series based on S.H.I.E.L.D. would be produced, but those fears were laid to rest last Friday, when ABC confirmed that it had picked up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for the fall. Now the first trailer is out, and things are looking great. Read more…

Are you surprised? The Disney-owned channel ABC will be picking up Joss Whedon’s TV side-story featuring Agent Coulson and his team, called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Later this evening the first look at the show will air at 8pm, before the season finale of Once Upon a Time. I’m not sure if it will be substantial peek or just a 5-second promo, but hopefully we’ll get a good look at the pilot footage. What I wonder most about is whether Agent Coulson’s big-screen popularity in Avengers will translate to the small-screen as well. Watch the preview tonight if you want to find out! Read more…

Weird dubbed-over lip readings of existing content has been a long-living subset of internet content, pioneered mainly by the brilliant and also terribly NSFW group, Dayjob Orchestra (apple juice!). Now, newer and uh, more “marketable” YouTube channels have come along singing a similar tune. Bad Lip Readings has been doing content like this for a while, but nothing really caught my attention until now, with their latest video which dubs over the Walking Dead. It’s better than the season 3 finale! Although, I guess that’s not saying much. Read more…

If you’ve never checked out the series of LEGO videogames being made by Traveller’s Tales, you’re missing out on tongue-in-check, fun homages to the properties they adapt, even if the games are largely bereft of challenge. They’re all largely the same, involving getting to the end of a level with the most LEGO studs (and no real penalty for dying or losing those studs besides a lower ranking and unlocking things slower). Brian Anderson is apparently a big fan of both the LEGO games and Breaking Bad, as he has created a concept video for what a LEGO Breaking Bad game would be like. Read more…

Let’s face it: as awesome as some TV has become with incredible shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and the like, there’s a lot of TV that has gotten even worse. Some channels are wastelands of vapid reality TV, pointless competitions, derivative copycats, and other incredibly stupid content. Who better to save us from this than PBS, in an Avengers-style team-up? Read more…

Are you ready for May 26th? Arrested Development will finally return and a brand new season will arrive on Netflix, all in one batch. You know, it actually feels real now. Seeing all these ads and posters, and now our first clip, Arrested Development is truly back! This orange shipping container seems to play a big part in the story, given that they’re using it in all the promotional material. The posters are all pretty basic, but it’s good to see everyone back in character. The first clip is also available courtesy of EW, featuring Buster and Lucille Bluth, so check that out right here. In an interesting team-up, Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro has teamed up with Doctor Who and Sherlock writer Steven Thompson to adapt Naoki Urasawa’s critically-acclaimed manga Monster. It apparently took a while for del Toro to convince Urasawa, but he eventually accepted the proposal, and now Monster will be entering production on HBO. Urasawa’s original manga tells the story of a doctor who saves a child who grows up to be a sociopath, and the journey the doctor takes to right his wrongs. Read more…

It looks like even Amazon isn’t sure what show they want to make into a full series, because they’re leaving it up to viewers online! Amazon Studios has put up the first 14 TV series pilots on their site for your perusal. Most notable will probably be the Zombieland TV series, as well as a series based on The Onion. Let’s just say though… this Zombieland series looks pretty poor. Given the rush this was made on though, it’s not particularly surprising. Hopefully there will be one or two standout series in the pile of 14 – I haven’t dug into them yet. Check out the full list here. Read more…

With the runaway success of the Walking Dead, AMC has been struggling to find another show to pair with it. Typically, the show immediately following TWD is The Talking Dead, which is thoroughly uninteresting to me, but apparently loved by millions if the ratings are anything to go by. So: AMC has teamed up with Tron: Legacy and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski and the Pacific Rim scribe (Travis Beachman) to create a new sci-fi show that they hope will reach the same heights. We don’t have many details on the moment, but AMC is pitching it as “Blade Runner meets Battlestar Galactica.” Read more…

Get ready, Bluth fans, because Netflix has finally confirmed the launch date of the new season of Arrested Development: May 26th. Along with this date we also have gotten a new poster, and news that there will be a total of 15 episodes, up from the 14 we heard last. I really hope this catches on and we can see more Arrested Development in the future too, but first we just gotta get to May 26th. Also: they couldn’t have picked a better tagline. Those clever devils over at Netflix know what they’re doing, that’s for sure. Check out the poster below! Read more…

The Zygons haven’t been truly featured since their debut story, Terror of the Zygons, a 1975 Doctor Who serial featuring the Fourth Doctor. Sure, they have been in a few newer episodes, and there have been in a few books released since then, including one with the Tenth Doctor, but those don’t count as much as being the main villains for a story. The BBC just tweeted this photo though, confirming that the Zygons will fully return in the 50th Anniversary Special! Read more…

Game of Thrones season 3 premiers tonight! Are you going to be watching? I know I will! In the time between season 2 and season 3 I consumed all the books in the series ravenously, and now have joined the hordes waiting for the Winds of Winter, but there have been plenty of you waiting even longer. Those of you who were there since the beginning. And this Axis of Awesome song, Rage of Thrones, is for those poor souls. A salute to all of you who reads the books before the show and now have to suffer all your friends catching up. The music video is a bit NSFW, containing swearing and someone’s behind – but if you’re already watching Game of Thrones… Read more…

If you were a child of the mid-70s chances are that before the dawn of Star Wars that Space:1999 was a beloved favorite. In the United States the show had a decent following and merchandise followed in the form of model kits, action figures and of course toys. My most treasured toy was a wonderful import from England which was a die-cast metal Eagle, but being a mere child without an internet connection I didn’t know about this gem: This is a Japanese “Space Eagle” toy which even includes the box! And of course it’s for sale on eBay: Read more…

The latest trailers also begin to show more of the new additions to the cast, so eagle-eyed readers might catch a glimpse of Daario or other characters. It seems a lot of you out there are still hardcore Veronica Mars fans. On March 13th Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell posted a Kickstarter for a Veronica Mars movie – with the blessing of Warner Bros. too. By the time 24 hours was up, all 2 million dollars that they asked for had been fulfilled. In case you’re wondering, yes, all the rewards are insane, and whoever paid $10,000 to be a waiter in one scene with one line… well, god speed. I hope it’s worth it. Or maybe you’re just looking for a quick recap to refresh your memory of all 200 characters? HBO has you covered. They’ve released an almost 15-minute recap of season 2, mixed in with some interviews and staff discussions. This will hopefully keep you occupied for a short while. Are you ready for season 3 of Game of Thrones? I’ve been waiting for this season for what seems like ages, but it’s almost here. HBO has finally released the first real trailer for it, and let’s just say it looks fantastic. I definitely can see the effect of the increased budget, because it looks much more polished than even (the already excellent) season 2. There’s a few new characters here, as well as all your favorites – you can even catch a quick look at Dany’s dragons… they’re a bit bigger now. Watch the trailer below and see if you can make it until March 31st. It’s going be an incredible season. Read more…
