After the abrupt cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, fans wondered what would happen to the final season that never surfaced. Thankfully, Disney’s newfound love for Netflix will make it happen: the final season will debut on March 7th exclusively on Netflix. Not only that, the feature film and all previous seasons will be added to Netflix’s back catalog, along with director’s cut versions of some episodes. I suppose if you haven’t caught the series so far, now’s a great time to catch up and binge-watch everything. Not too bad, Netflix! Read more…

The latest TV show adaption of the Batman universe, Gotham, is trucking along pretty quickly: Alfred has been cast. Sean Pertwee will play him, who’s described as a “tough-as-nails former marine.” That’s an interesting angle to take, I suppose. Especially if they want to be a bit more action-oriented. Also cast was Robin Taylor as the Penguin, so we’ll definitely be seeing him. We also heard of Erin Richards as Gordon’s fiancee Barbara, Zabryna Guevera as Captain Essen, and Danny Cannon will direct the pilot episode. Now to see how it all turns out, eh? Read more…

The ball is finally rolling on Gotham, the TV series that’ll follow the adventures of Jim Gordon in his early years, before Batman came onto the scene. Ben McKenzie, best known for his roles on Southland and The O.C., will be playing Gordon as he starts his job as a rookie police officer. This series will also rejoin him with Bruno Heller, who was the showrunner on The Mentalist. The current plan is for the show to follow Gordon as he learns about the corruption of the police force, up until the point Batman puts on the cape. A young Bruce Wayne, the Penguin, the Joker, Catwoman, and more from the rogues gallery are expected to appear. Currently there’s no start date on the production, but I imagine it’ll start to gear up later this year. Read more…

It seems after ages in limbo, a live-action Preacher adaption will finally see the light of day. The This Is the End team of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be palling up with Sam Catlin of Breaking Bad to adapt the series for AMC. It seems the cable channel thinks they have the next big Walking Dead-ish hit on their hands — or at least some potential. Now, I’m not a big fan of Preacher, but I know a lot of you out there are. Do you think Rogen and crew can adapt it properly? I wonder how AMC will handle it — and what’ll change from page to screen. Read more…

Are you excited for the Superb Owl coming up? Even if you’re not a sports-er there’s still plenty to be excited about: there’s going to be a whole bunch of movie trailers premiering! But in the race to be first, everyone is releasing their trailers and commercials online first — or releasing trailers for trailers! Below, I’ve included some of the latest. We’ve got a teaser for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which features the Rhino, some Electro action, and plenty of Gwen Stacy. There’s also a combo-ad between the Muppets and Toyota with Terry Crews. It’s a little on the oddball side. Lastly, a whole bunch of British superhero villains try to sell you a Jaguar. Because EVIL! Read more…

Part of the excitement of getting a new main actor on Doctor Who is seeing what he’s going to wear. Sometimes you wind up with something unique and classic, like Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, and other times you wind up with possibly the worst outfit ever cobbled together, like Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor. Now that Peter Capaldi has taken over the role as the Twelfth Doctor and filming has begun, we finally get to see how his version of The Doctor will look. And how he will look is pretty cool. Last year, Microsoft revealed they were working on a Halo TV series, in full cooperation with Steven Spielberg, who was producing. We haven’t heard much since then, but a new rumor is circulating now saying that Neill Blomkamp is being sought after to direct the pilot episode. This is a little ironic, considering Blomkamp worked on the failed Halo movie before moving on to do District 9. Whether Blomkamp wants to come back to the Halo universe after a failed project remains to be seen, but last we heard he said he was against the idea. Perhaps since a TV pilot is an easier commitment, he’d be willing to contribute? Read more…

Marvel just doesn’t want to surprise you anymore. Why tease something out, when they can just announce it in advance to try to drum up hype? Yes, Marvel has announced that Deathlok will be coming to Agents of SHIELD, probably in an attempt to get some new viewers for the show. Actor J. August Richards, who has been playing Mike Peterson, will be transformed into the cybernetic soldier. Jeph Loeb claims that they’ve been leaving breadcrumbs for fans all along the way, but all I heard was the obvious hint when Mike was “killed” and then woken up with a device in his eye. Still, perhaps this is the shot in the arm Agents of SHIELD needs to really get going. Read more…

Yes, you can buy Cards Against Humanity, the more outrageous, dirty version of Apples to Apples. But you can just as easily download the cards and print your own — the makers even provide a link. You can do pretty much whatever you want with the format and writing, just as long as you don’t call it “Cards Against Humanity.” So it’s really easy to make a fan expansion however you want, like Crabs Adjust Humidity. Taking note of this, the comedy group Conventional Improv made a show based on Cards Against Humanity that they perform at conventions. In honor of Doctor Who‘s 50th Anniversary, they had performed a Doctor Who-themed game called Cards Against Gallifrey. That fan version is now available to download, so consider mixing these cards in if you’re a Doctor Who fan. Read more…

These days, everyone’s on board with Batman being a dark, gloomy character. The movies have shaken off Schumacher’s stench and gone gritty and realistic. But there was a time when Batman was downright camp: the 60s live-action Batman TV series. DC sometimes revisits this time with things like the Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon, but there’s really nothing quite like the original. Through Conan O’Brien (whose show Conan shoots right on the WB lot near my apartment), WB has confirmed that they are releasing Batman — presumably all 120 episodes — in a complete box set later in 2014. Conan tweeted the news with a picture of him and the Batmobile, which was retweeted by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. There are no further details yet, and I’m not sure if the 1966 Batman movie with nearly the same cast from the TV show will be included. Regardless, it’s good that this is finally getting a release so we can see Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero, and all the other wacky actors. Would a Blu-ray version be asking too much? Read more…

In Parks and Recreation‘s latest season, accountant Ben Wyatt is unemployed for a week between jobs and comes up with a ridiculously complicated board game called The Cones of Dunshire. It was actually produced for the show based on the script by Mayfair Games, who makes The Settlers of Catan, which this game is trying to evoke. I loved the joke because it reminded me of times when I’d have to try and explain other complicated board games like Arkham Horror to neophytes and watching their eyes glaze over — or times when I felt the same way trying to understand someone else’s board game. Apparently the numerous rules have been ironed out somewhat, as the game will be staged at GenCon this summer in Indianapolis. Mayfair notes that it will be “big and festive and probably for charity,” hoping that Adam Scott, the actor who plays Ben, can make it there for “his” game. I’d just like to figure out how the hell it’s actually played, because nothing he said in the episode made sense. Read more…

Humanity can fly with planes, helicopters, jetpacks, and more. But can we make a TARDIS fly? Flyonix is trying to make that happen. They made a styrofoam TARDIS, and it actually flew a bit! Sure, it’s not flying on its own, but let’s consider the 12 rotors to be TARDIS “training wheels.” It’s obviously not ready for human (or Time Lord) passengers, since I’m sure part of the reason it’s flying is because it’s light. But hey, maybe they can keep working on it, get it to support heavier loads, and then put a person inside! And then maybe work on the whole “bigger on the inside” bit so more people can fit in. And then get it to travel through time and relative dimensions in space… Read more…

Steven Moffat is in charge of both Doctor Who and Sherlock, two of the BBC’s biggest current exports (along with Downton Abbey). Unsurprisingly, there are many fans of both who have been dying for a crossover — Wholock, if you will. While Moffat thinks such a move would ruin Sherlock‘s setting (and I’m inclined to agree), that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be awesome to see. That’s why this fanmade crossover is so great. There are minor flaws here and there, but for the most part, the two series mesh pretty well thanks to some clever compositing. it’s pretty cool to see Sherlock enter the TARDIS after years of searching for information on the mysterious Doctor and go off on an adventure. It’s just a shame that in becoming a companion, Sherlock is leaving behind his own companion. Read more…

The time has come to say goodbye to Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor. But before Peter Capaldi takes over as the Twelfth Doctor, Eleven has one more chance to go out with a bang. It’s “The Time of the Doctor,” the Doctor Who Christmas special, and BBC America has a nice little trailer. Watch as The Doctor takes on, like, all the enemies ever. Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, the Silence, it almost seems like overkill. I’m sure it will be cool, but can any regeneration ever top The Caves of Androzani, Peter Davison’s last serial as the Fifth Doctor? I’d argue no. Read more…

Everyone is celebrating Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary… even Google! The search engine’s latest Google Doodle is a retro-styled game that takes place in their header and lets you play as any of the various Doctors. You can click to move your character around the screen, solve simple puzzles, avoid Daleks, and collect all the letters of the Google logo (obviously). It’s nothing too complex, but like most Google Doodles, it’s a heartfelt and creative little diversion. Check it out on Google’s homepage, or if you’re looking at this page in the far future and have missed it, hope over to Google’s Doodle archive where it should be archived. Read more…

In their search for the next big thing, AMC is looking in places you might not expect. Badass Digest is reporting that they’re hearing from multiple sources that AMC has ordered a pilot of Preacher, a TV adaption of the crazy comic. A lot of people out there are big fans of Preacher, and many have tried to get it made into a film before. Then, to add to the hype, Seth Rogen tweeted that he might get to bring one of his “favorite stories ever” to life. Following which he then said “Arseface. John Wayne, The Saint of Killers,” referencing two characters in the series. Could Preacher become AMC’s next big thing? I have my doubts, but who knows that the future holds? Read more…

There has been no shortage of jokes about Bryan Cranston and the links between his character on Breaking Bad and his character on Malcolm in the Middle. I’ve seen so many comics, posters, or other mash-ups of the two that it almost became tiring. Actually, scratch that, it did become tiring. But this alternate ending for Breaking Bad simply blows all the rest out of the water and does the joke right. I won’t spoil anything for you, just hop below the jump and watch it, but suffice to say, the entire thing takes a more than a few hints from the famous finale of Newhart (which I’m sure will fly over the heads of most average Breaking Bad viewers). Still, it’s a great bit, and you get to see a familiar face too! Read more…

I say it’s probably a 99% chance that the previously announced Walking Dead spinoff TV show will be a prequel. Why? Because a) it will make for more interesting TV, and b) because TV Line says that’s what they’re hearing. As I said, I think a prequel makes the most sense and will allow for take the series into new ground. It also shouldn’t be set anywhere near the original show, and never cross over with it. Thankfully, it seems series creator Robert Kirkman agrees, as he recently said in and interview that, “It definitely won’t be set in Georgia,” and that “It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spin-off has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.” Great to hear that, buddy! But about the whole selling-out thing… Read more…

The 50th anniversary special for Doctor Who is coming up on November 23rd, so I now give you permission to get very excited. The latest trailer has a much better look at everything that’ll be going on in the special, and it looks like there is a lot. Three doctors, Daleks, and redecorations — there’s plenty here. It’ll be interesting to see how much they explain about John Hurt’s Doctor, as well as the transition to the next Doctor. Then again, I’m not a hardcore Who fan, so perhaps this has been explained thoroughly already. Anyway, check out the trailer below! Read more…

With Thor: The Dark World coming out later this month, Marvel wants to fire on all cylinders to keep the universe linked. So what else would you do other than cross over the one and only Marvel TV show with the big Marvel release of the holidays? Yup, Agents of SHIELD will get a Thor crossover episode. It won’t directly involve characters from the film, but rather the agents trying to “pick up the pieces” in the aftermath, threatening to destroy a member of the team. Maybe SHIELD gets to be the cleanup crew and someone snaps? He’s sick of cleaning up after these superheroes! Why can’t they clean up their own messes, right?! Read more…

The wait is almost over for Sherlock fans. There hasn’t been a new episode (really, more like a new 90-minute movie) since May 2012 (or January 2012 if you watched the British broadcast like me). But now we know when season three is airing, at least in the US. The first of the three new episodes will air on January 19 at 10PM on PBS’s Masterpiece anthology program. Of course, the episodes will likely be out there before that, as the BBC does have first airing rights. While the BBC hasn’t announced their premiere dates, they will be sometime before PBS airs the episodes, possibly airing even by the end of 2013. Read more…

Star Wars Rebels, the new show to take over The Clone Wars’ slot, is set in the period between Episode III and Episode IV. Thus, that gives the creators a whole new time period to play with, and obviously, they need a main villain. The Imperial Inquisitor is that dude — tasked by Darth Vader to eliminate any remaining Jedi Knights. There weren’t too many other details, but the announcement video did feature some other peeks at various art and CG assets from the show. I love seeing seeing classic stormtroopers and TIE fighters again, so I’m actually looking forward to this show a bit! Watch the video embedded below. Read more…

Maybe this is an untapped market, or perhaps it’s just a way to lure parents into getting their kids to watch Nick Jr. A Game of Thrones-inspired commercial was made for the Nick Jr. show Ben & Holly, which features the iconic opening of the dark fantasy series set against the colorful world of a kid’s show. I don’t think kids will be getting the reference here (oh god, I hope they don’t get the reference here), mainly because a show filled with violence, sex, incest, and war typically doesn’t cross over with Nick Jr.’s crowd. Still, it’s a nice little nod to parents and I bet the show’s creators had fun making the ad as well. Watch the video below! Read more…

If there was to be a Breaking Bad game, you’d probably imagine some Grand Theft Auto-style criminal venture. But people love putting the just-finished television series into other types of games. Vulture imagined the show as a text adventure in the style of Zork, published by Infocom in 1980. (The header picture is unrelated to the game, but funny.) While Walt is not likely to be eaten by a grue, it’s a funny take on some memorable scenes, though it would have been even cooler if you could play the game. Check out the examples below!
