Super Shogun Stormtrooper is Super Huge

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Jun 15, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

Super Shogun Stormtrooper

This is probably the largest stormtrooper toy I’ve ever seeen. At 24 inches, Super7’s two-foot-tall take on the Imperial stormtrooper comes complete with a spring loaded rocket propelled fist, and wheels. Why it would even need those is beyond me, but I’m not one to complain about the extras. Still, it’s not like it really needed them. It’s a two foot tall storm trooper wielding an E-11 blaster rifle, and that’s more than enough reason to want one if you ask me. Here’s the kicker, though — it’ll cost you about $299. Crazy, right? At least the details are pretty stunning up close. If you’re still willing to empty your wallet or bank account, you can order one online via the Super7 website. For more info on the toy itself, check out the mini-site here. Read more…

A Fanboy Follow-up; Obishawn, the Man Behind the H-Wing

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Jun 10, 2010 in Fandom, Star Wars

Shawn "Obishawn" Crosby

The other week, we posted some photos of this amazing Star Wars-themed car mod known as the H-Wing. Shortly after that,  I was contacted via Facebook by the man who built it, Shawn “ObiShawn” Crosby, who provided some additional info about the vehicle and his work. ObiShawn works as a toy, prop and game designer, and had constructed the car’s modifications himself — an effort he attributes as the culmination of these interests. So what was it that really impressed me?

A Stormtrooper Bust That Feeds On Rebel Brains

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Jun 8, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Horror, Star Wars

 GE80078lg

Awhile back, Del Rey published the novel Star Wars: Death Troopers, and ever since I’ve been wanting to sit down and read it. The concept sounds absolutely fantastic, take Star Wars and mix in a bit of good old fashion horror — how could you go wrong? I’ll be honest, I’ve been holding out for the paperback which is due out in October, but after seeing this fantastic bust, I’m about ready to just give in and by a copy of the hardcover. The bust is actually a 1/6th scale model of the zombie Stormtrooper as depicted in the upcoming graphic novel, based on the book.  If you’re looking to obtain one of these bad boys, Entertainment Earth has them for about $75 and is currently taking preorders and will ship in November. Posted by Michael Pinto on Jun 5, 2010 in Star Wars

This Star Wars themed Adidas spot was created to celebrate the World Cup and while I’m not a soccer fanboy I have been a fan of the Adidas since Run DMC celebrated them in song many moons ago. This ad features quite a few sports and music stars: David Beckham, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel, DJ Neil Armstrong. Read more…

Introducing the H-Wing; the Very First Honda With a Hyperdrive

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Jun 1, 2010 in Fandom, Star Wars

Star Wars Car Modifcation - H-Wing Front

A few months back, the guys over at Woa2 stumbled across this insane Star Wars themed Honda while attending the Anime L.A. convention. According their post, the car is modeled after an X-wing, though I’m pretty sure the paint job alone looks closer to that of an A-wing — aside from the R2 unit in the back, of course.  The interior of the car is just as impressive, featuring a custom wheel, dashboard, leather interior, a passenger-side computer console, and more. It’s obvious a lot of work went into this. Read more…

Has Star Wars Gone to the Dogs?

Posted by Michael Pinto on May 29, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

Ultimate Boston Terrier Star Wars Dog Art Set

Commissioned over 100 years ago in 1903 the paintings by C. M. Coolidge which are collectively now known as Dogs Playing Poker is a cornerstone of pure(bred) Americana. But as good as those doggies were, I belive that an America of the 21st Century needs a more modern for of kitsch — and thus I nominate this Ultimate Boston Terrier Star Wars Dog Art Set for the honor. Lavishly illustrated by Brian Rubenacker this set of prints captures the canine side of Darth, Boba, Princess, Obi-Wan and Yoda. Read more…

R2-D2, B9 and Johnny-5 Show Us How the Robot is Back in Style

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 27, 2010 in Fandom, Star Wars

I’m sure it’s not every day that you come across house music featuring robots — famous ones, at least. The video here features some of our favorites lending their robotic talents to Eclectic Method’s latest release entitled, you guessed it, “Robots.” Clever name, right? Yeah, I thought so too. I was really hoping they’d throw in some Mechagodzilla, but I suppose it was just wishful thinking. Still, it’s a pretty cool video and if you’d like a copy of the song or more info about the group, check their official website. Read more…

Chewbacca Makes a Cute Little Cyclops

Posted by Michael Pinto on May 21, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

Chewbacca the Timid Monster

Even though he’s reffered to a walking rug there’s always been something so charming about Chewie: I think it’s because Wookies remind us a bit of doggies (it’s the nose I tell you!). So you’d think that by making him a cyclops that Chewbacca wouldn’t have any appeal — yet this adorable Chewbacca the Timid Monster proves otherwise. Standing at only 1.5” tall this little guy designed by TrishCzech won me over. Read more…

This C-3PO Backpack Shows Us the Perfect Use For a Protocol Droid

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 20, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

c3po backpack 3

This is yet another example of why I love The Empire Strikes Back so much. I’d point out how Shakespearean the film was — being a tragedy and all — but plot aside, it’s inspired so many awesome products. Take this amazing backpack for example. Sure it was sad to see C-3PO strapped to Chewbacca’s back, but whoever thought to turn him into a portable storage device was a genius. The backpack actually comes with light up eyes and the ability to reassemble the droid, should you feel the need. Read more…

Premakes: The Empire Strikes Back as a Fifties 3D Flick

Posted by Michael Pinto on May 19, 2010 in Fandom, Star Wars

This fan video stars Luke Starkiller in a faux fifties styled trailer for a 3D version of The Empire Strikes Back. Of course this is very fitting as Lucas owed a great deal of his inspiration to the chapter films of a previous era, although those films were from the 30s and 40s. I like the fact that the editor of this fan video made it a point to go the extra mile and use footage from films from that era instead of just using the Star Wars footage on black and white. Nothing Warms a Rebel Base Quite Like Your Very Own Wampa Rug

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 18, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

Wampa Rug & Leia

It’s probably not as warm as the insides of a Tauntaun, but now you can own your very own Wampa rug straight from the icy caverns of Hoth. Sure, it might be synthetic fur, and have claws of vinyl, but what would you expect for a fictional beast? Besides, it’s not like your friends have ever encountered one in person and lived to tell about it. The rugs will start to ship out this August, retailing for $99.99 each.  I’m not really sure how fast they’ll sell, but if you want, StarWarsShop.com is currently taking pre-orders — now, if only they’d toss in Leia. Jabba the Bibliophile?

Star Wars Jabba's Palace Bookends Statue

I knew that Jabba the Hutt was many things — but I’ve never imagined him to be so well read! This overly detailed Star Wars Jabba’s Palace Bookends Statue pretty much has everything except for Jabba: Han Solo on ice, Boba Fett and even a well placed bowl of fruit for visitors who like to eat healthy. Although I’m surprised that slave Princess Leia wasn’t included! Read more…

These Hilarious New Disney World Ads Offer AT-AT Parking and More

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 11, 2010 in Star Wars

Disney's Star Wars Ads - AT-AT

With Disney World’s annual Star Wars Weekends event beginning later this month, several new advertisements have recently popped up. The images feature everything from Yoda trimming Mickey Mouse-shaped hedges with his lightsaber to Darth Maul having a rainbow painted on his face — each image just gets better and better. I’m a little sad that they omitted Boba Fett, but the expression on Darth Maul’s face more than makes up for it. If you’d like some higher resolution images, head over to Avertolog. Read more…

Bring Me the Head of, err the Helmet of Boba Fett!

Posted by Michael Pinto on May 7, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

Star Wars Clone Wars Boba Fett Helmet

My favorite thing about this Star Wars Clone Wars Boba Fett Helmet is that they did a good job of getting in the proper the proper wear-and-tear that one would associate with a bounty hunter. Another plus for this keepsake is that includes authentic sounds and an “articulated rangefinder”. Of course I prefer Boba from The Empire Strikes Back: There’s something a bit silly about seeing him as a child in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones which ruins his mystic for me which is so well captured with the headgear. Do Not Underestimate the Power of the TomTom GPS

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 5, 2010 in Star Wars, Tech

Have you ever wanted your GPS to sound like a Sith Lord, or James Earl Jones? Perhaps you’ve just imagined yourself as a hapless Admiral, in charge of piloting your own Star Destroyer, while fearing for your very life. Well, now you’re one step closer, thanks in part to TomTom’s custom Star Wars brand voice samples for their GPS devices. For around $13 you can have Darth Vader mock your failure to turn at the last light. Over the course of the next three months, additional Star Wars voice packs will go on sale for C-3PO, Yoda, and Han Solo respectively. Pretty awesome, right? Star Wars Mimobot Thumb Drives Are Still Strong With the Force

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 4, 2010 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

StarWarsMimobots

It’s been nearly three years since Mimobot launched its line of Star Wars themed USB thumb drives, and yet they continue to release set after set of the collectible storage medium. Their latest set finally got around to giving us R2-D2 and Obi-Wan, not to mention Han and Luke disguised as Storm Troopers. When Michael first mentioned them back in 2007, they only came in 2GB models, but since then, Mimobot has started offering models that range between 4 to 16gbs  at additional cost. While I’m not sure I need to start collecting these — as if I didn’t already have more thumb drives than anyone else I know —  the fact that you could use a Jawa to store your documents almost seems like reason enough to own one. If you’re interested, check out the official Mimobot store for pricing and availability. Read more…

Samurai Wars: Custom Toys From a Galaxy Far Far to the East

Wait until you get a load of these. Custom Toy artist, Sillof, recently completed his latest series of custom figures, entitled Samurai Wars, in which he took the cast of Star Wars, and re-imagined them as characters in a Akira Kurosawa masterpiece. The details on the figures are absolutely fantastic, from Obi Wan’s eye patch to Vader’s burnished iron clad armor — it’s clear that a lot of work went into these. If Only Jabba Bothered to Use Soap

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 18, 2010 in Fandom, Star Wars

Han Solo soap

The guys over at Luxury Lane Soap really blew me away with what could easily be the coolest bar of soap I’ve ever seen — so much so that it would pain me to have to use it rather than keep it on display in my own sand-scarred palace. I’m not even sure how they got the idea to make soap out of Han Solo’s carbonite tomb, but it’s pretty fantastic if you ask me. Of course, I’d find it a bit morbid to wash myself with poor old Han, but I think the coolness factor easily makes up for that. Luxury Lane is currently out-of-stock, but you can still place one on a four to six week back-order for around $6.50 a piece.  Read more…
