Another week, another amazing LEGO model, right? Yeah, but this one it pretty unique: the entire Ghostbusters HQ made into a cross-section model, including the Ecto-1, and all the details from the film. See if you can find them all! Alex Jones is continuing to impress us all with his amazing work – he says he watch Ghostbusters 1 and 2 constantly for two months to learn all the nooks and crannies of the HQ. Too bad this will probably never be an actual LEGO set (too many pieces), because I know plenty of people who’d buy this! Check out more images below and on his site. Read more…

Check out this bad boy: a brand new ultimate LEGO model of the Red Five X-wing! At first some images of it leaked online, at which point it spread all over the place. LEGO then promptly requested these images to be taken down… and then uploaded their video announcing the new set. Anyway, regardless of the announcement, this new set looks great, and if you’re a LEGO or Star Wars fan, this will definitely make a great display piece. It’ll arrive in May and will retail for $199.99, with 1,559 pieces. And yes, it includes R2-D2. It wouldn’t be complete without him! Watch the video below to see all the details. Read more…

Hey! This is actually a pretty clever box set! The Walking Dead season 3 Blu-ray box set, made by McFarlane Toys, will recreate one of the most creepy and disturbing bits from the series: the Governor’s wall of preserved zombie heads. It’s been made to light up, and the best part is you can fill it up with your own water, so it’ll look like the actual fish tanks the Governor has. Granted, we don’t know when this will come out, as the second half of season 3 will only start airing tomorrow night, but sometime this year you’ll be able to own your own collection of decapitated zombie heads. Take solace in that fact. Read more…

Now here’s an impressive Doctor Who figure for your collection from the folks at Big Chief: the 10th Doctor, in 1:6 scale. It’s their third figure in the series (after Amy Pond and the 11th Doctor), and is limited to 1000 units. They did an excellent job on the sculpt here, and even though there’s only one face to choose from, it’s probably the best one you could go with for David Tennant anyway. This figure releases in July for £169.99. They do ship outside of Europe, so don’t worry, you can still order it and get your Doctor Who fix. Check out some more images below! Read more…

Wow, just wow. This is one of the biggest and most impressive LEGO builds I’ve seen in a long time. Ryan McNaught (aka The Brickman) has put together roughly 100,000 LEGO bricks into an ELVIS, Erikson Air-Crane. Look at all that orange! It took him just over a month to design it and put it together, and he mentions that the strange shape made it difficult to put together – not much of it touches the ground! It was built for Brickvention in Australia, which is happening right now. Really amazing! Check out more images below. Read more…

How much do you like Charizard? If you’re a Pokemon fan, these excellent D-Arts figures are probably right up your alley. Their previous Mewtwo figure was an awesome model that was really well-sculpted, and this new Charizard looks to be just as good. Super-poseable and brightly colored, I think this will be an excellent addition to any Pokemon fan’s collection. He’s set for release in April, but you can pre-order him now on Amiami, so you can have a reserve when he eventually arrives. Now, what Pokemon are they going to release next? Maybe a trainer? A while back, Psychobob created a custom 3D-printed figure of Portal 2 robot companion Atlas, and it was awesome. Actually, it still is awesome, but now it’s even better with a new stand he made for it. Modeled after the pressure-sensitive buttons from the game, this bright-red stand is also 3D-printed and makes the perfect display piece for Atlas. Honestly, I just really want one myself. Psychobob, get in touch with me – we’re going to make the entirety of Aperture via 3D printing. Maybe. At the very least, ThreeA toys is releasing their own Atlas and P-body figures eventually, but that’ll probably be a long time coming. So until then, we’ll make do with Psychobob’s awesome work. Visit his blog for details of the whole process! Read more…

I’m a big fan of YouTube user Akiyuki’s work. His complex and elaborate LEGO machinery are always a treat to see, and trying to figure out how he built the crazy contraption is brain-tickling fun. His latest project is an axle sorter, which organizes all those Technic axle rods you might have laying around. Depending on how big your LEGO collection is, this machine might look very enticing! Now we just need one that sorts all LEGO bricks, not just the axles. Sure that might be time consuming… but you know what to do, Akiyuki! Read more…

Looking for some new Batman figures to add to your collection? Perhaps these Play Arts Kai figures will fit the bill – the Joker and Catwoman are now widely available for pre-order, so you can now own one or both of them. Sadly, PAK seems to have a weird fascination with black backgrounds, which makes it hard to make out the details of the figures, but from what you can see, they seem to be pretty solid. The paint work on the Joker’s coat is definitely a highlight, although Catwoman seems to lack the texture of her actual suit in the film. Perhaps it was difficult to replicate! Pre-order Catwoman here or here, and Joker here or here! Read more…

Have you seen this amazing Back to the Future LEGO set? No? Well look at it, take it all in. It looks amazing. And the submission on LEGO’s CUUSOO web page had gotten enough votes by the public to be considered by LEGO for an official set. And guess what? It was approved! LEGO got the necessary rights with Universal Studios and the DeLorean will be coming out in the near future. There’s not a final model yet, so the end result might look a bit different from these pictures. But still: a LEGO Back to the Future set. Awesome! LEGO also mentions they’re next looking at the Mars Curiosity Rover, UCS Sandcrawler, and Portal 2 LEGO CUUSOO projects. I would kill for some Portal LEGO sets, so I’m rooting for that one! Check out more images and the video below. Read more…

Hot Toys continues to impress with their series of figures. The amount of work they put into making sure characters’ faces look real is astounding, and I wish I could own them all. For those of you out there (and I know you’re out there) who loved Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D., you can now pre-order him. He’ll be releasing June 2013, so there’s a bit of a wait, but it’s worth it for one of these figures, right? I bet he’ll look great with the rest of the Avengers team that’s also being released by Hot Toys. Could someone remake the whole Avengers film with these? Would it look much different from the real thing? Read more…

It just didn’t feel right to say “leap into action,” since he’s just standing there, you know? Kotobukiya is continuing their solid New 52 Justice League lineup, and the latest addition is Batman! I must say, while his pose is kind of boring, I actually like the sculpt of Batman himself. He’s a little leaner than the usual Batman figures, making him look more like an agile ninja than a hulking hero in the night. He is, just like the others, very shiny. Whether you like that aspect falls into personal preference, but I’d say he looks good paired up with the rest of the crew. If you’re looking to pick Batman up, pre-order him at AmiAmi, Hobby Search, or HLJ. Read more…

The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and more are just some of the fandoms covered at the show. Can’t make it to the show? You’ll be able to purchase prints online on the 17th! Looking for the perfect figure to top off your Pokemon collection? Well if you weren’t, you are now. This new figure from D-Arts of Mewtwo is.. well… awesome. It’s got a ridiculous amount of articulation and in general looks solid. He comes with a projectile, a Pokemon stand, and if you pre-order in the first wave, a small figure of Mew will come included as well. Sadly, it looks like he’s sold out at most of the usual haunts online, but if you keep an eye out you might be able to catch one. Mewtwo releases in March for ¥3,990. Read more…

There are a lot of classic books covers I love. Some of them are really iconic, stuff you’ll always remember. Out of Print has a unique idea that I love: take book covers and put them on t-shirts. Maybe it’s really obvious, but I haven’t seen anything exactly like this before. So you can get your favorite book cover design on t-shirts, sweaters, and more – and they also donate to Books for Africa in the process for each item sold. Pretty neat! Thanks to Major League Mods (Mark Bongo), they’ve accomplished something I’ve wanted since I was young: to have my own R2-D2 that plays video games. Ok, maybe it wasn’t that specific, but you can’t deny that an original Nintendo Entertainment System crammed into a plastic R2-D2 shell is pretty freaking cool. It features all your plugs, and the cartridge fits in on the back, out of sight. Mark even customized the controller a bit, to make it fit in with the rest of the package. Best part? The power and reset buttons are connected to a speaker that plays R2-D2 noises. You can play NES games on pretty much anything these days, but in the end, I still think these kind of mods are the best. Read more…

Sailor Moon has been coming back in a big way, especially with the new anime series peeking over the horizon. Bandai is jumping in the pool with something I know a lot of fans have been clamoring for: a poseable Sailor Moon action figure! All we have so far is this image fresh from Tamashi Nation, in which you can also see what looks to be a Chibi Arts Sailor Moon in the background as well. I’m sure prices and release dates will be announced very soon, but for now you’ll just have to drool over this. Tomopop is also saying they’re hearing rumors of the other Inner Senshi/Scouts being announced too. Excellent! Read more…

Ready to put your pets through some serious testing? Maybe you have a young child or robot that looks like a child and need to find the perfectly-sized Portal gun them. Thankfully, your strange requests have been fulfilled by ThinkGeek, and you can now get a mini Portal gun. It lights up and makes sounds just like the full-size replica that was sold earlier this year, but it’s smaller! ThinkGeek lists that it comes with a stand and a full-color gift box as well. I’m not sure why that’s a big deal, but maybe you really like gift boxes. In that case, head over there and get yourself one – it’s $59.99! Read more…

Remember Olly Moss’ fantastic solo show, Paper Cuts? It featured a huge array of pop culture character in simple but iconic silhouette form. It got a lot of attention, and now it looks like all that has come to a head, as Moss is releasing a full book of the pieces, perfect for your coffee table. The book itself looks great, with an excellent design and hardcover. This looks to be a great conversation-starter or even a Christmas gift for a fanboy you know (or maybe just you). Being able to pick out each silhouette is fun, so pre-order it here on Amazon if you’re interested – it comes out October 30th. I’ve included a few examples from the original show below! Read more…

I think I can safely title this that, right? Carlyle Livingston and Wayne Hussey, two intrepid LEGO fans, took nearly 400 hours each over three months to build the most impressive Batcave I’ve ever seen. It has all the important details, and even the not-so-important details. All those angled bricks for the cave surface look amazing, and I love the little exits for the various Bat-vehicles. Carlyle and Wayne have been taking the Batcave around to various conventions, so you may have caught it at Brickcon or Emerald City ComiCon. Absolutely insane! Read more…

With New York Comic-con in full swing, we’re getting some cool announcements out of the convention. One cool bit of news was LEGO’s announcement of a new license added to their already huge list: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Technically, it’s based off of the recent Nickelodeon version of the characters, but still! This is a great property and the minifigures look great, but that van is a little on the borish side. Hopefully we’ll see some neat sets come out. Best part: LEGO teased the announcement the day before by sending out LEGO pizza slices to press. If that’s not awesome, I don’t know what is. Read more…

Remember those wonder ball contraptions, shuttling marbles or other small round objects around various mechanical means of transportation? Well a Japanese LEGO fan recently uploaded a video of his most expansive Great Ball Contraption yet, and it’s mighty impressive. Useless? Yes. But still impressive. There are lots of great details included in it, and astute LEGO fans will pick out lots of clever brick usage. I really love the mechancial arms that poke in quickly and yank the balls into the next stage – very fun to watch. Beware of watching the “Suggested Videos,” you might not return! Read more…
