The amazing thing about Peanuts is that it represented the life’s work of Charles Schulz, and as such the character designs changed over time. As a side note while his character designs were very graphic, they’re incredible hard to draw — Schulz’s draftsmanship was brilliant. Next year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the comic strip and to celebrate Dark Horse will be releasing Peanuts Then and Now Figure Sets showing the characters as they first looked in 1950 and then as they looked later in the series. Here’s good old Charlie Brown as he appeared in 1950: Read more…
This is the Gary Moore television show from 1953: Here he’s doing an amazing segment which features the hot toys of that era. Moore had an amazing career — he started out working in radio in 1937, went on to television ten years later in 1947 and kept going until 1976. Found via Ira Gallen of tvdays.com.
Just when I had thought that I had seen every Mobile Suit Gundam goodie along comes another trinket to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic anime series. In this case we’ve got a collection of ballpoint pens that are shaped like the various weapons the mecha suits carry into battle, and at $11 the set is pretty cheap in terms of collectables: Read more…
For kids action figures represent an idea of who you might grow up to be in the future. However recently I’ve started to realize that there is an entire genre of action figures that are based on dead rock-and-roll stars: My theory is that these collectables represents the mourning of our lost youth. As most of these rock stars die in their youth, we’ve never known them to grow old — and by extension this allows us to do the same. Read more…
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away the fanboys (and fangurls) all had dirty hair! Although sadly I think that most fans who will purchase the Star Wars Shampoo Bottle Set will be afraid to ruin the collectors value by actually using the hair cleaning substance within: Read more…
Sadly this product could never be released in the United States due to fears of lawsuits — however that said the Cream Filled Pastry Kit is one of the coolest looking foodie focused toys I’ve seen in a long time! In theory here are what your results are suppose to look like: Read more…
I know that ninjas are so last year and that everybody is obsessed with zombies this season; but this Bacteria Assassin Ninja Toothbrush Sanitizer really caught my eye as it’s one of the few geek gizmos that’s healthy for you. The little ninja uses Ultraviolet light to eliminate bacterial growth on your toothbrush. In fact the makers claim that it kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses — including H1N1: Read more…
Actually the JLA Trophy Room Batman Modern Utility Belt Prop Replica isn’t designed for vintage cosplay fanatics; at a price tag of $280 this replica is designed for display in your bat trophy cabinet. The design of this belt is somewhat based upon what Adam West wore in the 60s television series shown here: Read more…
The two things that caught my eye about this Star Wars R2-D2 Statue is that not only includes eight attachable accessories (a periscope scanner, gripper, and a saw just to name three), but given the fact that it’s at a 1:6 scale size it looks like the perfect toy for modding! Although faint-at-heart may think twice about kitbashing this droid as the asking price is about $160 and it is a limited edition.
Yoda knows that the Force is powerful, but some situations are more about the carrot and the stick! This Leading the AT-AT Tee by Block 33 perfectly illustrates this Jedi technique: Read more…
Mattel is getting brilliant with their marketing to collectors these days: Shown above is the James Bond Girls Barbie Doll Assortment Case. This set only has three Bond girls: They picked Honor Blackman in Goldfinger, Halle Berry in Die Another Day and Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder from Dr. No. For reference here are the real ladies of the silver screen: Read more…
O-No! Sushi by Andrew Bell is an urban toy reaction from a vegetarian to sushi. I like the effect of the cartoony octopus looking on at horror at the presentation before him. Bell also has a similarly themed print up for sale at his website as well: Read more…
There’s nothing quite like the original! This Star Trek USS Enterprise Limited Edition Replica caught my eye with every detail perfectly in place. This 1:350 scale model is made up of 1,250 pieces and is just a bit over 32 inches long. The design was based on the dimensions and geometry taken from a surviving studio miniature and uses internal metal supports to make sure your warp engines won’t warp. However taking command of a starship has a high price, and in this case that price is $2,000.
Fans of videogames and interface design will love these Controller Ornaments which are based on a wide range of videogame units from the ghost of Christmas past. The set was created by industrial designer Dave Rollins who has a nice sense of whimsy in his work: Read more…
Have you ever been in that particular situation where you need a quick sound effect like bubble wrap popping, a security alarm going off or a toilet flushing? Well neither have I but this these Japanese Funny Sound Button Keychains seem to make the possibilities entertaining! The only catch is that when you purchase these keychains you get them at random, although that’s part of the fun (which at $6 is pretty low budget). Here is a video of the keychains in action: Read more…
This December Professor Layton will make the transition from beloved videogame to an anime film when Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva comes out. I sort of like this as I always found the quiz aspect of the DS game to get in the way of the characters. As part of a merchandising wave the manufacturer Dive has a pair “FuruFuru” figures which feature bobbing heads — one of the professor and one of Luke: Read more…
This Airdrop T-Shirt by Glennz Tees answers the age old question: Where the hell do those damn blocks keep coming from? Of course like any good NASA mission a question always raises another question — and in this case that question is “…and why?”
We so often forget that the magic behind Yoda was really master puppeteer Frank Oz, and this USB Yoda with Illuminated Light Saber is so damn cute that it feels like he belongs more to the world of the Muppets rather than the more serious Star wars universe. In fact he sort of looks like a Muppet Baby rather than an old Jedi master: Read more…
