You know it’s the stupid things in life that make me happy — and the minute I looked at the trailer for the Pirates of the Caribbean Premium Level Kit for LittleBigPlanet a smile emerged on my face. Everything about this level seems just right from the silly music to the kitbashing of character designs. This level will be out on December 22nd for $6 from Media Molecule. Never judge the game by the trailer — it’s the gameplay that counts! Good I’m glad I got that out of my system because I KNOW that’s true, but the fanboy in me is pre-sold on this because we’re talking about Tron. Now that’s a gamble as it’s a favorite geek franchise from back in the day, but frankly everything in this trailer feels like the perfect update from the quality of the voice over to bringing the look of the original film to the next level. I just came across this amazing commercial for an Enter the Matrix Pachinko game which is from Daiichi (although I couldn’t find any info anywhere else on the web and the original version of the game came out in 2003). I love the Japanese twist of setting the commercial in a noodle shop — and the fact that the “special effect” is so low budget makes it all the better! This is a commercial for the latest Taiko no Tatsujin (太鼓の達人) videogame by Namco for the Wii. While one version of this game has came to America I’m still envious that the arcade version (shown in the commercial for a few seconds at the start) hasn’t come over here. This is latest video promo for the Lucky Star Net Idol Meister game for the PSP. This music focused game will be released on December 23rd, with a follow up additional song in January 2010. My personal preference would be to see a second OVA coming out, but in my book there’s no such thing as a disappointing Lucky Star release of any kind. I think one of the most creative uses I’ve seen of Halo is This Spartan Life which is a clever machinima driven talk show. For geeks these episodes are always pure gold as you have the ironic contrast between Charlie Rose intellectual chatting with a backdrop of a sci fi version of Apocalypse Now. The show has had some amazing guests to date but they need funding help to get it to the next level so they’re making use of kickstarter.com to raise funds from the fans. Most of us will never get to be big wig Hollywood producers, but this is a small way you can do that — but rest well knowing that you helped something of quality. Shown above is the ever so cute Street Fighter IV Fight Pad Action Voice Key Chain. This keychain looks like an old school arcade game controller, but when you press the punch button you get the Japanese voice of the character you are punching (and the same with the kick button). LEGO Rock Band comes out next week (November 3rd) and this trailer looks like a great deal of fun. Part of me would love to see a TV show based on this opening title sequence, maybe not an entire Pixar film but a seven minute short with the right director would be amazing. If you came of age reading science fiction in the late 60s, 70s or 80s you may have come across the illustrations of Don Ivan Punchatz who sadly just passed away. Punchatz’s illustrations were best known in the fantasy and science fiction genres and graced quite a few paperbacks, although his work covered other genres and he even did a cover or two for Time magazine (which is as good as you can get). 3D Dot Game Heroes is an RPG game for the Playstation 3 which is due out on November 5th in Japan. This title which is designed by From Software takes place in a classic retro gaming RPG kingdom whose king declares that his world should be in 3D to celebrate the defeat of a demon lord. Shown above is the trailer for The Beatles: Rock Band Abbey Road download which is available on Xbox LIVE (and will be available later this week PlayStation Network). Watching this footage I realized why from a conceptual point of view that I hate this game: The Beatles started life as a “Rock Band” but when they made it they really became a pop music act. The Star Wars Battlefront videogame asks the big question: What’s it like to be an everyday character in the Star Wars universe? The answer is that it looks action packed! This is a teaser trailer for the latest chapter in that series which is titled Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron and is designed for the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. Who knew that 90s nostalgia would be the hot things for videogames over a decade later? In this case LEGO Rock Band has done a very cute job brining Britpop icons Blur to life. Now granted this isn’t my favorite song from Blur, but I still loved every minute of it. However I’d love to see them take this concept a step further and have a battle of the bands with Oasis whilst the Spice Girls made snide comments in the audience. This is the latest gameplay trailer for Lost Planet 2 which was shown at the Tokyo Game Show. The game is published by Capcom and looks amazing — after seeing this trailer I don’t have much of an idea what the gameplay is like, but the universe Jun Takeuchi and Kenji Oguro have created looks wonderfully rich in detail. Tekken 6 will appear on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan, however Microsoft would rather you buy it on the Xbox 360 of course!  The 1988 NES game Contra Contra Rebirth is a WiiWare title that’s based on the 1987 Konami arcade game Contra ((魂斗羅) where you get to play an mutant killing commando (as a game the plot owed a great deal to the popular films of that era like Predator). The original game did so well that it was ported to NES in 1988 and has a well deserved rep of being the toughest game to beat. I’m really glad that we’re starting to see the market for retro games move out of the hobbyist era and into something more mainstream.
