Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 3, 2013 in Videogames

bioshockinfinite_

Are you ready for the arrival of Bioshock: Infinite later this month? After a long (and possibly troubled?) development cycle, the game with finally be arriving on March 26th. In the lead up to the release, Ken Levine and the rest of his buddies at Irrational Games are promoting it all over the place. The latest video is from IGN and features the team showing off the AI that Elizabeth, your partner in the game, has. It’s also showing a bit of the beginning of the game, so if you don’t want that ruined, go no further. But if you want to see how they tried to make Elizabeth seem as natural and real as possible, click on through. Read more…

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Trailer Leaks Early

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 3, 2013 in Videogames

asscreed4

I must say, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, has been one of the worst-kept secrets in a long while. Considering how well Ubisoft kept Assassin’s Creed III under wraps, I’m a bit surprised at this turn of events, but perhaps it’s time we start to figure out a different system for these early game previews. Oh well, another topic for another day. For now, we have an early leaked trailer of the game, which is a CG cinematic (no in-game footage yet), and features Blackbeard himself recommending the new Assassin as a worthy captain. Check it out below the break. Read more…

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 2, 2013 in Videogames

dafoe

Yes, you heard right: Quantic Dream’s new game, BEYOND: Two Souls has Willem Dafoe playing one of the main characters, along with Ellen Paige. So that’s two big-name Hollywood stars “playing” leading roles here – I wonder if we’ll find out more before release? And speaking of release, the game will arrive on store shelves October 8th. I wonder how it will fare with the looming shadow of the PS4 that will (probably) arrive the following month? If you pre-order the game at Gamestop you’ll receive an extra 30-minute playable DLC scene. Who knows what that entails. Watch the new trailer below to see Dafoe in action! Read more…

Year Walk: A Wonderfully Creepy New iOS Game

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 2, 2013 in Videogames

yw_screen_04

Who says iOS doesn’t get some amazing games? Simogo has been putting out some fantastic work on the iPad and iPhone, and with their latest release, Year Walk, I have to say that I am officially a fanboy. Year Walk is centered around Swedish mythology, in which men would wander into the forest of 19th century Sweden in hopes of seeing the future. This “Year Walk” allowed them to see visions… although it appears things are a bit more sinister than they first appear. The art is gorgeous and the sound design top-notch – wear headphones and play in the dark for the full, spine-tingling effect. And don’t forget to download the Companion App too! It may have some important secrets hidden inside it. Watch the trailer below. Read more…

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Announced, No One Shocked

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 1, 2013 in Videogames

asscreed4

If you’ve been on any site that reports on video games in the past week, you’ve probably heard about the leaked details of the next Assassin’s Creed game. While journalists can’t talk about their hands-on time with the game until Monday, Ubisoft officially confirmed the game today: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will release this year on PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. Chances are high that it will show up on the next Xbox and PS4 as well, but Ubisoft is remaining quiet about that for now. The new game looks very pirate-y, and you’ll be playing as Edward Kenway in 1715. I wonder how much pirate ship combat we’ll get? It certainly sounds like an interesting addition to the Creed franchise, but I can’t help but wonder how soon until people burn out on it. Read more…

It’s not May 19 yet, so that means we’re all still waiting on the fifth season of The Venture Brothers, one of the few good shows still on Adult Swim. In the meantime, fans who have waited forever (or since 2010) for a new season will have to make due with fan-made content. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm

While some may question some of their business practices now that they’re under the shadow of Activision, one thing is for sure: Blizzard still knows how to make some damn-fine cutscenes. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2

One Piece: Pirate Warriors may have just been a Dynasty Warriors game, but it was still pretty fun despite the dumb gameplay. A large part of that were the energetic and wacky attacks. Lo and behold, there is a trailer for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 focusing on the entire Straw Hat crew and the new moves they’ve attained during the two-year time jump that occurs in the manga’s plot. Square Enix Confirms Kingdom Hearts HD For Western Audiences

Posted by Bob Muir on Feb 26, 2013 in Videogames

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX

Consider me somewhat unduly excited, but I can’t help it: Square Enix has finally announced a Western release for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX. It’s an HD collection consisting of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (the slightly improved original game, previously only released in Japan), Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (the PS2 remake of the GBA interquel), and redone, expanded cutscenes that tell the story of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (a DS spin-off set around the same time as Re:Chain of Memories). Naturally, trophies have been added as well. Read more…

Leonard Nimoy Will Sell You a Playstation 4

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 24, 2013 in Fandom, Videogames

nimoy_ps4

Love yourself some fake commercials? Here’s a re-dubbed commercial from 1981 featuring the one and only Leonard Nimoy, selling you laserdiscs… er, I mean, the Playstation 4. I love the whole fake 80s commerical shtick that marketers have been using recently for movies and games, so this video from IGN fits right in. They really nailed the cheesy transitions and old-school typography. If you want, you can even take a look at the original commercial they used for this parody – it’s almost as funny – but mostly just charming in that so very 80s way. Read more…

Do you remember Ghost Trick? It was a Capcom DS game from the creator of the Ace Attorney series. You played a dead detective who had to solve mysteries to discover information about his murder. There was also a cute dog. Well, NeoGAF solved an alternate reality game from Square Enix and discovered a teaser trailer for their next game. It seems to be about a dead detective who has to solve mysteries to discover information about his murder. There’s no word on whether a cute dog is involved. Read more…

Hotline Miami, an 80s-styled indie game about ultraviolence, pleasantly surprised critics last year, garnering it a place on many year-end lists. Latest Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Trailer Looks Pretty

Posted by Bob Muir on Feb 19, 2013 in Anime, Videogames

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3

The Naruto videogames keep coming, and while not every game leaves Japan, we tend to get most of the better ones. The latest in CyberConnect2’s Ultimate Ninja series is Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, and the graphics still look as beautiful as ever. While the gameplay of previous Ultimate Ninja Storm games has never been that special, the cel-shading is always well done. And of course, there are over 80 characters, giving it the biggest roster yet.

WSJ: Playstation 4 Will Stream PS3 Games

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 17, 2013 in Videogames

ps3

Another rumor about the PS4 in the lead-up to the February 20th announcement? Say it isn’t so! The Wall Street Journal is reporting that while PS4 games will still probably be delivered on disc or digital download, PS3 games will instead be streamed to the system as compressed video. Sony had acquired game-streaming company Gaikai a while back, and everyone assumed the tech would be integrated into the next system – the real question was how. Another potential use, I believe, will be game demos. And perhaps even better, is that the option will exist then to stream PS3 games to any other internet connected device, such as PCs, the Vita, or smartphones. Hopefully Sony will capitalize on this! We’ll find out everything on the 20th. Stay tuned! Read more…

In addition to that game, Nintendo also announced a new Mario & Luigi game, subtitled Dream Team. Lastly, they also mentioned new DLC for New Super Mario Bros. I know that Animal Crossing fans have been frothing at the mouth in anticipation of the next installment in the series (I know because I’m dating one). But the wait is finally over, as yesterday’s Nintendo Direct brough the best Valentine’s Day gift of all: game announcements and release dates. The always dreamy Bill Trinen confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Leaf will launch on June 9th, just a few days before E3 this year. He also mentioned that a new online functionality feature was being added to the game for the US release, but declined to mention what it was. Best part? No more doing chores for Tom Nook! Third Batman: Arkham Game To Be Released In 2013

Posted by Bob Muir on Feb 13, 2013 in Videogames

Batman: Arkham City

So there is good news and bad news when it comes to the Batman: Arkham videogame series. Surprising everyone, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City turned out to be really well-made games; they’re some of my favorite games of this console generation. So the good news is that Warner Bros. has confirmed the next game is in development and will release later in 2013. But unfortunately, this game might not be in the hands of previous developers Rocksteady. Read more…

Play Half-Life 2 in Full Virtual Reality With This Amazing Mod

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 10, 2013 in Fandom, Videogames

hl2rift

You’ve probably seen me post about the Oculus Rift before, but this mod takes it to a whole other level. Using an Xbox Top Shot Elite controller, a tracking device taped on top, and an Oculus Rift, Nathan Andrews has created an awesome-looking mod for Half-Life 2. Your view and gun controls are separated and controlled individually by each motion tracker, thus allowing you to feel closer to being in the game itself. It’s a really neat setup, and one that I hope can be replicated easily, especially with the Rift dev kits coming out so soon. Watch the video below! Read more…

LEGO City Undercover Gets a New Trailer

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 9, 2013 in Videogames

legocity

Looking for a new Wii U game now that Rayman Legends has been delayed? LEGO City Undercover looks like it might fit that bill. It’s the latest in a long line of LEGO games, but it looks to be breaking the mold in a few ways: one, it’s an open-world GTA-style game and two, more work seems to be going into the writing and voice acting. This new trailer via Nintendomination actually made me laugh a few times, and the missions look to be fun, so maybe I’ll check this game out. That goofy and charming LEGO humor really seems like a perfect fit here. Watch the trailer below. Read more…
