One of the most popular characters from Mass Effect is being immortalized by Gaming Heads as an impressive new statue. This figurine of Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect is 21 inches tall, which makes him — well, it makes him massive. He also comes with two different guns (the Incisor Sniper Rifle and the Phaeston). Limited to 500 copies worldwide, you’ll probably want to hurry if you want one: pre-orders are open now on Gaming Heads’ website. Garrus runs $349.99 and will come numbered and with a certificate of authenticity. Pretty cool! Oh, and yes, there are payment plans. More images below! Read more…

Hey! There’s a new 2DS color! I was wondering when we’d get one of those, and I suppose the upcoming release of Tomodachi Life is a perfect time for that. The new color is Sea Green, which seems like an alright name. What happened to “teal,” though? This is a bit lighter than your average teal, and with that white contrast, it looks very… beach-y! This 2DS and Tomodachi Life release June 6th, but no word on if there will be a bundle. I was honestly hoping they’d bring the mint green 3DS XL (that they paired with Tomodachi Life in Japan) over to us, but alas, it is not to be. It’ll retail for $129.99. Read more…

Though id Software may not have made Wolfenstein: The New Order — MachineGames made it, while id is working on Doom 4 — that doesn’t mean there isn’t any of id’s handiwork in there. Besides making the engine the game runs on, there’s a neat easter egg that brings back memories of Wolfenstein 3D, mainly because it is Wolfenstein 3D. You can play through a stage, similar to easter eggs in id’s Rage that teleported you into Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake. While I don’t think developers should make their games to cater exclusively to nostalgia, this is a nice way to remind fans of how far we’ve come. I always loved finding recreations of the first level of Castlevania in some of the latter-day Metroidvania games. Developers, consider doing this more in the future! Read more…

After a lengthy delay, Watch Dogs is finally being released next Tuesday, May 27. Advertising the open-world game even more seems almost unnecessary, but this latest video takes the game’s hacking system and transposes it into the real world. Several customers go to get their phone fixed, only for the repairman to add an extra app to their phone that allows them to hack the street nearby, with disastrous consequences. I hesitate to say whether or not this is a real “prank,” since something seems off about the customers, which makes me wonder if they’re really actors. Either way, it’s a funny sketch, and I’d like to imagine it happened in real life. For that matter, I’d love to have such an app on my phone! Read more…

I am very excited for Transistor — the latest game from Supergiant Games, the creators of Bastion. I’m jumping into this game mostly blind, because I want to be surprised. But as you can see from this brand new launch trailer, it looks really freaking good. Greg Kasavin and the rest of the crew there always do a wonderful job. I’m also loving the music, and given that the main character appears to be a singer, this is a good thing. Giant swords, cyberpunk-esque designs, sweet characters — what else do you need? Check out the launch trailer below and pick up the game on May 20th on Steam and PS4. Read more…

Yup, the online services for the Wii and Nintendo DS are finally shutting down on May 20th. Perhaps “finally” is the wrong word, though. All games that used online play on the DS and Wii will no longer be able to, and you’ll be stuck with whatever offline modes are available. Granted, not many Wii and DS games were online-only anyway, so there’s no huge loss, but it is still interesting to see Nintendo shut down their first online service. You can visit their website for a full list of games affected, but yes, this means no more Smash Bros. Brawl online. Not that it was any good… Read more…

E3 announcements are for suckers! Everyone knows the real way to get peoples’ attention is to sneak an announcement out in the weeks leading up to the industry’s biggest convention, that way, you won’t get buried in the deluge of other games. It’s a smart move, but when everyone else does it too? You just create a whole new flood slightly earlier. Oh well, the real news here is that Halo 5: Guardians has been announced officially. Microsoft did tease it at last year’s E3 with a short trailer, but now we’re seeing some details, like a cover art design and a new main character (who appears to be searching for Master Chief). It’s set to arrive in Fall of 2015. Check out the full image below and read the PR-speak here. Read more…

Everyone wants to beat the E3 rush these days. You’ve got to announce everything early now! Or, well, maybe Ubisoft also just posted a $67 million net loss. So they announced Far Cry 4. Yes, very unceremoniously too, in a pdf for investors. Don’t worry, the PR blasts then fluttered it, listing it as releasing this November 18th. It’ll be coming to PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC — no surprises there. I also see they’re getting the weird racist overtones out there right on the box art, rather than hiding them deeper in the game as in Far Cry 3. I’m sure it’ll still be a fun game, but I wish they had listened to the criticisms about the game and improved upon it. I imagine we’ll see more at E3. Check out the full box art below. Read more…

I’ll give Microsoft credit for this: they’ll stubbornly hold onto their plans, but if they’re beat over the head long enough, they will change. The Xbox One revealed a year ago required an online connection at all times and the use of a bundled Kinect camera. While the online connection was walked back within a few weeks (notably after Sony didn’t require one), but the system launched with the Kinect bundled in, making the Xbox One $100 pricier than the PS4. It seems Microsoft has finally caved on that too, because Xbox boss Phil Spencer has announced a $400 Kinect-free version, now available for preorder with a release on June 9 in every country that Xbox One has released in. Telltale can’t stop having bad things happen to good people! The sad adventures of Clementine continue in The Walking Dead Game season 2 — we’re now up to episode 3. While I feel season 2 hasn’t quite matched up to the quality of the first, they’ve still done a solid job of continue the story and finding new ways to make you depressed about the zombie apocalypse and the people dying in it. This trailer does features spoilers for everything leading up to it, so if you haven’t touched season 2 yet I’d advise you steer clear. I’ll tell you all about it though: it looks like people will die, and there are zombies in it too. Check out the trailer below! Read more…

Insomniac is back with an Xbox One exclusive, but for a while all we had was a CGI trailer from E3. Now, as part of a Game Informer cover story, the first gameplay footage of the game has been released. It shows off the platforming and traversal aspect primarily, which lets you run on walls, slide across telephone lines, and bounce off of trampolines. The guns look to be as crazy as always, and I caught a bowling ball gun, a record gun, and as Insomniac gleefully points out, a TN-teddy bear gun. It’s TNT strapped to a teddy bear. I don’t see why not. Read more…

Last year, in the lead-up to the Dota 2 International (the championship game tournament for Dota 2), Valve revealed the Compendium, a way for Dota players and fans to get new items and unlocks for their game while also contributing to the overall prize pool, increasing the winnings available for the matches. Already they’ve blown past previous records and are shooting up the Kickstarter-esque stretch goals Valve has set up. Some of them look pretty high, but given how fast Dota 2 has been growing, I definitely wouldn’t be surprised if they hit them all. They already beat their record for most concurrent Dota players yesterday! Check out the full page here. Read more…

After dropping a few hints in Pokemon X & Y and years of fans speculation, Nintendo has announced that they are remaking Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire for 3DS, due out this November. It fits rather perfectly: X & Y just came out last fall, so it will have been a year since the newest main game release; meanwhile, Nintendo has already remade Pokemon Red & Blue (as Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen on GBA) and Pokemon Gold & Silver (as Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver on DS), the first two generations of Pokemon games, so Ruby & Sapphire are the only pre-DS games left to remake. The new remakes will be called Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. In a nice touch, the temporary box art has red or blue bands at the top and bottom, which is reminiscent of the Japanese box art for the original games. Read more…

After a quick tease, Atlus has announced that Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, the third core game in the SMT franchise, has been rerleased on PS3 via the PlayStation Network. This game was the first entry in the main series to be released outside of Japan, though spin-offs like the Persona and Last Bible games had previously appeared in the US, sometimes under the brand-name Revelations. It’s also considered to be one of the best entries, as well as being the first time that many non-Japanese gamers were exposed to an RPG with a very high difficulty. If you’re an RPG fan, are tired of modern games being too easy, or just want to play an amazing game, consider buying it, since it’s only $9.99. Read more…

Before Harmonix took music gaming by storm with Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Dance Central, they were putting out other, smaller games that were no less interesting. One fan-favorite (and personal favorite) was Amplitude, a 2003 sequel to a 2001 game (FreQuency) about “mixing” electronic music by switching between various instrument tracks to fill in the song. It was a direct precursor to Guitar Hero, which would put the focus on one track with more notes (or one track per player in Rock Band), though Harmonix has revisited the core gameplay with Rock Band Unplugged on PSP and Rock Band Blitz on digital platforms. Now, there’s a chance of a full sequel! Read more…

Capy has quickly become one of my favorite game developers out there, with their insanely clever and creative collection of games (Sword & Sworcery EP, Below, and now Super Time Force). The latter is finally arriving on Xbox 360 and Xbox One on May 14th. The general concept of the game is that as you platform through the levels, each previous life will repeat its journey beside you, killing the same enemies as before and performing the same actions. If you die enough, eventually you can have an entire army of characters rampaging through the screen — until you get past the point where they died. Check out the trailer below! Read more…

There’s another new addition to the EVE Online universe coming soon… possibly. CCP has announced Project Legion, a new concept their Shanghai team been working on recently. It’s similar to Dust 514, but this time it’s on PC. It looks like they’re attempting to make something that expands and improves upon what they made before with Dust. There will be safe-zones as well as low-security zones, where friendly fire can happen. And it probably will. And you might just lose all your loot to another player. You never know what can happen in EVE! CCP has said the game is still early and could change depending on community feedback, so we’ll see where it goes from here! Read more…

Yup, it’s that time of the year: time for a new Cal of Duty game! This time around they’re going further into the future, to a terrifying future where drones are everywhere and the government spies of everyone. Hmm, topical! It also stars Kevin spacey as the leader of a private military corporation that’s attacking the US. PMCs have been in CoD before, but it definitely looks like they’ll be the primary focus here. It looks a bit more interesting that the usual Call of Duty game, with plenty of exoskeletons and other mecha, but I’m not sure it’ll be enough to pull me in this time. Trailer below! Read more…

At a recent event, Disney announced an update to their popular Disney Infinity video game, dubbed “2.0.” It’s the exact same concept as Skylanders, but with Disney characters, you know? Still, the action-figures-and-portals business is still big, so Disney is introducing their other properties into Infinity: Marvel! Yes, the entire Avengers crew is in, along with Loki and MODOK. Spider-man and Green Goblin also make an appearance, but perhaps the most unexpected characters to show up were Rocket Raccoon and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. I guess it’s good for cross-promotion, though! I’ve included the announcement trailer below. Read more…

Nintendo ducked out of the E3 conference game last year, declining to host a big conference at the event in favor of a longer digital broadcast of Nintendo Direct, a series of mini-conferences with smaller, spread out announcements released throughout the year. This year seems to be the same, with Nintendo planning to air a Nintendo Digital Event — why not Nintendo Direct? — on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 9AM PT. Furthermore, there will be online coverage throughout the show from Nintendo Treehouse, the legendary localization department that’s worked on some of Nintendo’s best games. But that’s not all that Nintendo has planned. Read more…

I can’t blame you if you haven’t purchased a current-gen console yet. Yes, the PS4 and Xbox One are no longer considered “next-gen,” but that doesn’t mean everyone has made the switch from their PS3 and Xbox 360 yet. That’s why it’s good to hear about plans like this one. Bungie’s upcoming sci-fi MMO-FPS Destiny will be released on all four of the previously mentioned systems, which means many players may pick it up on last-gen consoles. But if you upgrade your system, you won’t lose all your progress. Read more…

There’s been a bit of a legend going through the games industry for about 30 years now: that at the peak of the video game crash in 1983, Atari was laden with an overabundance of video game products, particularly the truckloads of copies of E.T. The game had been produced in excess, as they had assumed it would sell gangbusters, but instead they were stuck with warehouses full of them. So what did they do? Dump them all in a landfill, and never see them again. Now, as part of a documentary, the games have been dug up from the landfill, proving the urban legend to be true. Kind of crazy! Let’s hope the documentary is good, too. Read more…

To promote their upcoming game Evolve, Turtle Rock has released a full match recording on YouTube, featuring all four classes and the Goliath. It’s a little unique as far as gameplay videos go: it has recordings of every single viewpoint in the game, and you can switch between them by clicking on the annotations near the bottom. Just make sure not to click the “commentary” button, unless you want to hear an overly enthusiastic announcer holler “oh, what a play!” I’m hoping there’s enough variety in the monsters and maps by the time Evolve comes out later this year, as this seems like a fun pick-up-and-play game with a bunch of friends. The writers behind Zombieland have latched on to Ubisoft’s big new game, Watch Dogs. They’ll be writing the movie script for a live-action adaption of the game, which will (presumably) follow the tale of Aiden Pearce, a hacker who wants to avenge his family after a violent tragedy (I assume murder). Because MANPAIN! You want to hack anything? He can, and will! If you can’t sense the sarcasm, I’m a little bored of Watch Dogs at this point, because we’ve seen it advertised for so long and the backstory simply makes me sleepy. Still, the amount of talent behind the game is big, and it looks like it’ll also get a good script from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Read more…
