I remember being so pumped for the Iron Man anime, based on a short concept trailer with fantastic animation. Alas, despite studio Madhouse’s involvement, it turned out to be a pile of crap, with awful CG, terrible art, and poor direction all around. So why does this new Iron Man anime film look so awesome? Here’s a new international trailer that takes a bit of a closer look at Hit-Girl’s story in the upcoming Kick-Ass 2. She’s trying to take a break from the crime-fighting business, maybe even “retire,” but it looks like no matter what she’s getting pulled back in. The second movie definitely feels cheaper than the original, but we’ll have to see the final film to judge everything. I also appreciate that they’re just simply titling it “Kick-Ass 2,” and not including some silly subtitle like “Kick-Ass 2: Kick Harder!” or “Kick-Ass: The Reckoning.” Simplicity is nice. Read more…

I feel like this movie has been in production forever, but here it finally is, the first trailer for The Wolverine, the new Logan-centric X-Men movie that will hopefully make people forget about X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009. It seems Wolverine is now mortal (whatever that means), but he’s still capable of slicing up ninjas and the Silver Samurai. Does this make up for the bad X-Men films, or are people still putting their hopes on X-Men: First Class follow-up X-Men: Days of Future Past? Read more…

DC has a new MOBA game coming out. Does “MOBA” sound weird? It means “multiplayer online battle arena,” which is the relatively recent name given to what was previously called DotA-clones, after the original Defense of the Ancients scenario in WarCraft III. (I still think they both sound weird.) Regardless, this MOBA is based not just on DC’s stable of superheroes and supervillains, but the reality-altering Infinite Crisis storyline. Read more…

Remember last summer’s San Diego Comic Con, when there was test footage shown from Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man film? Well, it’s finally leaked out online. Granted, it’s shot from a balcony and some guy’s head is in the shot, but you can still see a dude shrinking, getting bigger, and taking out two other dudes. Read more…

Well this is a pleasant surprise, kind of just like the first film. MTV premiered a trailer for Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to 2010’s adaptation of Mark Miller’s comic. And it’s looking pretty nice! Everyone seems spirited, and Jim Carrey’s inclusion doesn’t seem too forced. My only concern is that it is directed by some no-name instead of the talented Matthew Vaughn, who is only producing this time around. Still, it may turn out good. Check out the trailer below, but be warned it’s a red band trailer full of naughty words that are potentially NSFW. Read more…

The latest Iron Man 3 trailer is out, and as predicted by last week’s poster, Tony Stark and Rhodey will have plenty of help. This movie is going to be bursting with new suits, and it looks like they’ll be providing back-up for Tony instead of being worn. It’s not clear if anyone else is wearing them, but I could see the movie explaining them as controlled by A.I. Read more…

Here’s a few tidbits for your weekend: Man of Steel, the Warner Bros. latest attempt to reboot the Superman franchise, is getting some good buzz. JoBlo mentions that their source says the upcoming movie has “tons of action” and “it’s not nearly as dour and serious as the trailers suggest.” This is great news, and I hope it turns out to be true. I’m hoping the combination of Snyder and Nolan can result in a good movie. Check out JoBlo for more details. In other superhero news, Marvel has released a new Iron Man 3 poster that shows off more than a few Iron Man armors flying around. Perhaps we’re getting an Iron Army? Check out the poster below. Time for another casting confirmation for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Marc Webb’s sequel to his reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. But first, let’s recap the cast as it stands. We have: Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Dane DeHann as Harry Osborn, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as the Rhino (yeah, I know, it’s weird), and Felicity Jones as someone (possibly Black Cat). And now, toss another potential villain into the mix… Read more…

No no no no no! It looks like Michael Bay and Megan Fox have gotten over their previous quarrels (or perhaps there was a little money involved in this movie making thing), because Bay confirmed on his website that Fox will be back into his “family” for his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. The first poster will also reportedly run with the catchphrase “Abandon all hope, ye who enter,” or something to that extent. The obvious assumption is that she’ll be April O’Neil, but I think they should cast her as an all-new TMNT character: Megan Fox. Because I just can’t see her as April. Read more…

He’s still a little shadowy, but what villain isn’t? Here’s a great look at Mandarin, the villain in Iron Man 3, in this brand new poster. Ben Kingsley looks great in this role, for sure, and I can’t wait to see him in action. While the costuming on Mandarin seems to be suitably eastern, he also seems to be channeling a dictator-esque fashion sense as well. Will he be enough of a villain to really kick Tony Stark to the curb? Going by all the trailers and media we’ve seen so far, the answer appears to be ‘yes.’ The Empire Online version of the poster seems to have a certain helmet in it… Check out the full poster below! Since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is finished, Warner Brothers needs to take the Batman franchise in a new direction, and that means a reboot. The previous plan was to introduce a new Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie, which itself will be shaped by the success of Zack Snyder’s Superman movie Man of Steel. But now, things are uncertain, and we me see a new solo Batman film even sooner.

Here’s a sweet new poster for Iron Man 3, along with a new teaser clip, all leading up to a new trailer during the Superb Owl this Sunday. Not interested in football? That’s ok, because I’m sure it’ll be online mere minutes after the fact, if not beforehand. This new Iron Man film looks to be beating up Tony quite a bit now, even more so than Avengers. Will Shane Black be able to make an awesome film after Favreau’s mess of Iron Man 2? I sure hope so, especially with his buddy-buddy relationship with Robert Downey Jr. I’d like Iron Man 3 to blow my socks off. Watch the preview below. Read more…

If you’re going to make a game like Injustice: Gods Among Us where superheroes beat each other up as well as the supervillains, you gotta at least give some reason for them to duke it out, however flimsy. The latest trailer does just that, showing Batman teaming up with Harley Quinn and Deathstroke to counter Superman’s fascist rule. Hm, sounds like Superman: Red Son! Read more…

The latest film in the X-Men saga, Days of Future Past, has started gaining steam with director Bryan Singer announcing some new casting. Well, actually, it’s an old cast, coming back: Anna Paquin, Ellen Paige, and Shawn Ashmore – aka, Rouge, Kitty Pride, and Iceman form X-Men: The Last Stand. They’ll be featuring along with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence. Basically, this next X-Men film is going to be packed with big-name actors from future and past X-Men storylines. The general gist of the story is the future version of the X-Men team contact their past selves to prevent a terrible event in the future. A little vague, and with enough potential for a sort-of reboot? Yup! We’re good here. Read more…

Here, let’s start your week off right, with the first official Kick-Ass 2 picture of Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars & Stripes and his dog, Sophia. Yes, you heard right, Jim Carrey is in Kick-Ass 2. I’m positive it will be hilarious. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is also there as the titular Kick-Ass, but really, the news here is a non-fuzzy camera phone image of Carrey. Although here’s something to fix in post before the film arrives: the word “Toronto” in the background. Pretty sure Kick-Ass doesn’t take place in Canada, guys. Anyway – I’m excited to see this, as I enjoyed the first film, flaws and all!

I’m sure this whole “split season” thing is great for ratings. Twice the season finales! Twice the season premieres! More advertising! But man is it frustrating for viewers. Getting right into the swing of things and suddenly the rug is pulled out from underneath you. Thankfully, the wait isn’t long, as the second half of Walking Dead season 3 is coming back February 10th, and AMC is pumping out the previews. Below we have two new videos (a clip and a trailer) to whet your appetite for more zombies. Read more…

If you saw The Dark Knight Rises, you’d know Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a certain Bat-related character. There are hints that he’s being considered to play Batman in Warner Brothers’ Justice League movie. But according to Deadline, he may be opting for another, lesser-known superhero role on the other side of the fence. Read more…

With Dredd coming out on DVD and Blu-ray on January 8th, it’s no surprise that the marketing machine is spinning up. IGN has a short clip that goes into a bit of the work done to make the world Dredd takes place in. It’s not super-detailed, but it’s getting me interested in checking out Dredd finally when it releases. I missed out on the chance to catch it in theaters, and I heard great things about it, so now I’ll have a chance to redeem my nerdy self. Watch the video below. Read more…

Have some nostalgia for the original X-Men cartoon? The delightfully 90s original opening has a certain charm to it, like so many older cartoons. Perhaps it’s just because we grew up with them, but no matter. Kyle Roberts and his buddies have put together a remake of the 1992 X-Men opening with action figures and drawn backgrounds, the heroes leaping into plastic-y action. I’d argue with their use of the word “stop-motion,” because some of this seems more Flash than stop-motion, but it’s still an impressive and fun video nonetheless. Watch it below the break! I guess using Flash to create moving posters is a new and hip thing right now for the movie industry, eh? The Wolverine is the next film starring Hugh Jackman as the adamantium-boned mutant, directed by James Mangold, who previously helmed such films as 3:10 to Yuma and Walk the Line. The story will feature Wolvie in modern-day Japan, and I’m sure he will encounter plenty of ninja and samurai. He’s even wielding a katana himself, as is no surprise – when in Rome, and all that. The motion poster here has Wolverine brooding over a Japanese cityscape while rain pours down. I’d make some joke about him needing an umbrella or warning him he could catch a cold, but we both know that would end painfully for the both of us. Watch the poster below! Never thought I’d say that, huh? Read more…

I admit, I’m not the biggest Superman fan. The character is often just too powerful, removing tension and making everything around him dull, and when combined with his unwavering good nature, I find it hard to care about any of his problems. Why worry when you can throw any problem into the sun? If Superman’s personality is altered or presented in a different light (Red Son), then I can find enough interest to stick around. Fortunately, that seems to be what’s going on in this full trailer of Man of Steel. Read more…

It seems 2015 is going to be jam packed with big films. We already have so many heavy hitters like Justice League, Avengers 2, Star Wars: Episode VII, and more (and who knows if they’ll hit their respective dates anyway). But Fox is throwing another one on the pile: The Fantastic Four. Fox has been trying to reboot the film series for a while now, and with them marking the calendar it seems they’re ready to move forward. Currently we have no story details, but Jeremy Slater will be scripting the project, with Chronicle director Josh Trank set to helm it. A much more promising set of folks than last time around, wouldn’t you say? While I’d love for the Fantastic Four to come back to Marvel, for now this seems to be an adequate substitute. Read more…

Talk about blowing your load right away. So The Avengers 2 will feature Thanos, an intergalatic villain that seems natural for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to build up to. DC wants some of that superhero team-up money, so enter Justice League, a film from Warner Bros. coming in 2015. Justice League‘s Big Bad will reportedly be Darkseid, an intergalactic villain that is a horrible choice for a newly-launching franchise.
