Catwoman Steals Batman’s Car In New TV Spots

Posted by Ben Huber on May 25, 2012 in Cinema

It’s nice to see some good advertising for Dark Knight Rises, especially after that terrible poster that surfaced earlier in the week. These two new TV spots aired recently, highlighting the trouble Gotham is going through and Catwoman. I’m still not totally sold on her outfit, but it certainly looks better in action than in photos. There’s also a little hint of humor as well, which is a change of tone from the previous ads as well. While the hype is nowhere near Dark Knight levels, there’s still a great sense of finality to everything we’ve seen of Rises, and I find that comforting in a way. It’ll be great to see Nolan’s Batman trilogy wrap up, I’m sure, just the way he intended. The second TV spot is after the break. Read more…

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Delayed Till 2013 to Add 3D

Posted by Ben Huber on May 25, 2012 in Cinema

gijoe_ret

In one of the dumbest, most ridiculous moves in recent memory, Paramount is delaying the actually-good-looking-or-at-least-silly-fun G.I. Joe Retaliation to March 29, 2013. It was supposed to come out next month, on June 29th. They’re hoping to add 3D to the film for an extra bang in the foreign box office, but I can’t help but wonder if this will ruin the film’s chances. Paramount has already dropped a huge amount of money into marketing, especially that Super Bowl commercial – and what about Hasbro’s toys and all the varied tie-in products? Are those just going to sit on warehouse shelves for 9 months? Read more…

Anchorman 2 Teasers are Glorious

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 23, 2012 in Cinema

I have a bit of a soft spot for Will Ferrell’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I think most fans would agree that of his recent films, Anchorman remains heads above the rest, so when he announced that plans for a sequel had finally come to fruition, we knew we’d be in for a treat. Here’s a look at one of the two teasers that have been floating around the past week. No doubt more will be revealed when Anchorman: The Legend Continues finally goes into full production next year. Until then, we’ll just have to hope they keep cutting these little teasers to keep us entertained.

A Reason to Stomach MIB 3?

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 22, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

Men In Black

If you’re a Spider-Man fan, there might be a reason to catch the IMAX 3D midnight showing of Men in Black 3 on Thursday, or at least, sit through the trailers before getting up to leave. Attendees will be treated to a special six minute preview of The Amazing Spider-Man. Marvel has released its fair share of footage over the past few months in efforts to promote the film, but this special six minute preview will feature the most footage to date. Hopefully, it won’t be enough to spoil the film for those of you who choose to attend.

New Prometheus Featurette Shows Amazing, Huge Sets

Posted by Ben Huber on May 12, 2012 in Cinema

This latest featurette on Ridley Scott’s upcoming Prometheus really gives a good look at how big and detailed the sets they made really are. Especially that impressive-looking chair that Michael Fassbender settles down into – it makes me sad that there’s less and less of that happening. I hope this shows studios that traditional sets still have a place in sci-fi films. The recent R rating news also gives me some hope that Scott was given free reign with the entirety of the film, which is always good. This short video gives a glimpse into the amount of work put into Prometheus, but it might be a little spoiler-y for some people, so beware!

Should We Bother With Avengers in 3D?

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 8, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

Marvel's The Avengers Trailer HD 4

It’s a question I’ve wrestled with all day. Do I spend the extra cash to witness Whedon’s superhero extravaganza, The Avengers in 3D, iMAX or just settle for the normal 2D experience. After a bit of research, it seems apparent that the film was shot with only 2D cameras, with no iMAX or 3D cameras in sight. This means any 3D or iMAX versions of the film were converted entirely in post. Generally speaking, these conversions are never perfect, and should be treated as such — but that doesn’t mean they can’t be good either. Read more…

The Amazing Spider-Man Trailer Shows Promise

Posted by Ben Huber on May 5, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

I’ll be honest, I’m still a little pessimistic about the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man film. But this trailer has gone a long way to give me something to look forward to. The cinematography in particular is really great, and seeing Spidey swing through the streets of New York with such style makes me happy. At least we’ll get some good eye candy out of this. The Amazing Spider-Man releases on July 3rd, this summer.

Abraham Lincoln, Superhero?

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 3, 2012 in Cinema, Horror

I know we’ve been posting quite a few trailers lately, but this latest featurette for Tim Burton’s big screen adaption of Seth Grahame-Smith’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is definitely worth watching. So far, the trailers for the film have featured plenty of special effects, and fast cuts of the film’s over-the-top action sequences, but until now, we really haven’t had a close look at the actual fights between Lincoln and the vampires. This small featurette gives us a glimpse at some of the axe-play you can expect from the film, as well as plenty of never-before-seen footage from the upcoming film without really spoiling anything.

A Note on the Passing of Joel Goldsmith

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 2, 2012 in Cinema, Television

Joel Goldsmith

Being the fanboys that we are, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t take a moment acknowledge the untimely passing of Joel Goldsmith.  Joel was an Emmy-nominated composer who scored a number of our favorite films and television shows. His credits include several Stargate television properties, Sanctuary, the live-action adaptation of Witchblade, along with a few Sci-Fi cult-classics from the late-70s and early 80s, such as Moon 44 and LaserBlast. Latest Dark Knight Trailer Gives Us More Bane

Posted by Tim Sheehy on May 1, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

Here’s the latest trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. As reported earlier, fans attending The Avengers this week will be treated to it in theaters, but we figured you’d want to catch it sooner rather than later. It may reveal a tad more about the plot, such as the reason for Batman’s absence from Gotham, and along with an extended look at Catwoman’s role in the film. Unlike previous trailers, Bane’s dialog is actually intelligible, so that leads me to believe Tom Hardy had some additional ADR work in recent months — probably for the best. Oh and we finally get a look at Nolan’s take on the Batwing. Like the rest of the vehicles to appear in previous films, it’s a bit rugged, for lack of a better term, and not quite as whimsical as the design from Burton’s films.

Cap Off Your Weekend With 100 Schwarzenegger Quotes

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 30, 2012 in Cinema

I’ve always wanted to post one of these Schwarzenegger montages, but I never really had the chance. Of course, using the “top 100 quotes” will probably be a bit of an overkill, but that’s okay. I’ll probably have to move on to Jason Statham quotes next, but let’s be honest, none of his one-liners have ever been as campy or, by virtue of that fact, entertaining. On the bright side, now that Schwarzenegger’s making his return feature films, someone might decide to film another 80s action flick — oh wait, they have. The Expendables 2 will hit theaters August 16th. Let’s hope they release another awful set of promotional posters for that one.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation International Trailer Shows Off Ridiculousness

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 28, 2012 in Cinema

The last G.I. Joe film was poor, in my opinion. It tried to run with the concept to seriously, which thankfully, the sequel doesn’t do. Instead, it embraces the silliness inherent in G.I. Joe and goes full-blast into the hectic action and crazy battles. I’m actually interested in Retaliation (although, as a silly action film, but there’s nothing wrong with that). Check out this latest trailer – it shows off the crazy stunts and ridiculous story – and who doesn’t want to see The Rock and Bruce Willis kick butt together?

New Prometheus Featurette: Listen to Actors Gush Over Ridley Scott

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 27, 2012 in Cinema

I like Ridley Scott. I like his films. Apparently, these actors love Ridley too. A lot. Of course, it’s just how the featurette is cut, I’m sure, but the real news here is the excellent look at the sets and process behind Prometheus, Ridley’s latest sci-fi film. I’ve always admired Ridley’s desire to stick with traditional sets. Building the environments for the actors to actually move around in helps a great deal in enhancing the believability of a film. I’m interested in seeing how it all pans out when the film finally releases on June 8th.

Marvel Wants to Spoil the Avengers

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 19, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

Marvel's The Avengers Trailer HD 1

There’s nothing I hate more than someone who spoils a film for me, but for some reason Mavel seems intent on doing just that. The Avengers won’t even hit theaters nationwide until May 4th, but every day leading up to that will undoubtedly prove a significant challenge. Just today I received an e-mail from Marvel offering an exclusive clip from the film and asking me to pre-order the soundtrack. Clips have been pooping up on Facebook, and movie blogs since screenings of the film began earlier this month, and just this week they’ve launched an entirely new set of commercials with even more footage than before. Avengers Extras to Include 30 Minutes of Deleted Scenes

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 16, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

Joss Whedon Avengers Set

The Avengers hasn’t officially premiered yet — save for a few early screenings — but director Joss Whedon is already discussing some of the extras we can expect with the eventual DVD and Blu-ray release. As he revealed in previous interviews, Whedon ended up filming quite a few scenes, with his first cut weighing in at a hefty 3 hours in length. Back in March, Whedon revealed that he managed to cut that time down to 2 hours and 15 minutes. Admittedly, it would be a bit of a pipe dream to expect all forty five minutes of deleted footage to be included as extras, but in a recent interview with Collider, Whedon stated his intent to include at least half an hour worth. By industry standards, that’s a whole hell of a lot.

New Teaser Poster for Django Unchained Channels Saul Bass

Posted by Ben Huber on Apr 13, 2012 in Cinema

waltz

We’ve received very few looks at Quentin Tarantino’s new film, Django Unchained, so far. It’s coming out this Christmas but all we had to show for it were a few leaked set images, one featuring Christoph Waltz in costume. Well, we’ve finally got a little taste, in the form of a teaser poster. Now I’m going to state the obvious here and say that this poster looks very Saul Bass-esque – and given Tarantino’s love of film, this should be no surprise. Check it out below. Read more…

Recalling Total Recall

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Apr 4, 2012 in Cinema

Total Recall 1990

The first trailer for Len Wiseman’s Total Recall hit the net this week, and surprisingly, it really looks good. Given Hollywood’s current fetish for reinventing classic films, I had plenty of reservations when plans were announced a year ago, especially after hearing that Colin Farrell would be cast as Douglas Quaid, a character we’ve only ever associated with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Farrell isn’t unknown to the action genre but for a time, Schwarzenegger defined it. So how do they plan on tackling it? The answer is simple, believability.

First Trailer for Genndy Tartakovsky’s Feature Film “Hotel Transylvania”

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 30, 2012 in Animation, Cinema

I’m a big fan of Genndy Tartakovsky’s work – and I bet many of you are too. Just the mention of Samurai Jack, Dexter’s Laboratory, or the Clone Wars series are enough to get people excited, so I like to keep an eye out for whatever he works on next. We’d gotten teasers and small bits of info about “Hotel Transylvania” here and there, but here’s the first official trailer. Yes, it’s CGI. I’m a little wary, but also hoping that Tartakovsky magic will pull through. Read more…

Clever Indiana Jones Posters for Your Office or Underground Temple

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 25, 2012 in Cinema, Fandom

Raiders_header

I love Indiana Jones – it’s my favorite adventure film trilogy (shhhh!) and has some of the most recognizable, iconic imagery of any film. Maxime Pécourt realized that, and made three fantastic posters featuring all the various items and objects from the films, formed into the important relics that Jones went after. If you’re interested in these posters, you can check out Pécourt’s Society6 page. And his blog has more creative geek-related work on it as well, so take a look at that as well! Read more…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Aliens? Yikes

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Mar 19, 2012 in Animation, Cinema

Metalhead

I remember a time when the only thing Michael Bay did to ruin a film was add a few too many explosions. Now he seems content ruining our favorite Saturday morning cartoons — I’m not sure how we let it come to this, but something tells me it’s all you who went to see Transformers in the theaters, just to stare at Megan Fox. Earlier today, Michael Bay caused a bit of a stir when he let slip that his upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film wouldn’t feature any mutants, but rather aliens. Yeah, that’s right, he actually said they’d be from an alien race, so let me ask — was sitting through three of films starring Shia LaBeouf really worth this?

Avengers-Themed 3D Glasses Are Kind of Terrifying

Posted by Ben Huber on Mar 16, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

ironman

So how better to watch The Avengers this summer than in 3D? Depends on your preference I suppose. As a glasses-wearer myself, I find 3D glasses and 3D films as a whole very clumsy, but it’s hard to argue when people are swarming into 3D films. So it looks like the new promotional tie-in for 3D films will be custom 3D glasses, like these Avengers-themed glasses. It’s hilarious to see people mistake the Thor glasses as Spider-Man glasses on the Facebook page, though. Read more…

The New Dark Shadows Trailer

Posted by Michael Pinto on Mar 16, 2012 in Cinema

This film looks like a great deal of fun — they could have made it super serious, but my first impression is that by setting it in the early 70s and having fun that Tim Burton did the right thing.

Rumored Iron Man 3 Plot Leak

Posted by Tim Sheehy on Mar 13, 2012 in Cinema, Comic Books

Iron Man Avengers Poster Crop

It’s just a rumor, but Latino Review claims to have the scoop regarding the plot of Iron Man 3, including its potential villain — if you can call it that. Since it’s just a rumor, I’m not really sure how much of a spoiler it’d be but better safe than sorry. If you absolutely want to avoid any rumors about the film, and considering The Avengers hasn’t even hit theaters yet, that might not be a bad idea, then read no further. Otherwise, hit the jump.
