Logan’s Run Is Running
The interesting thing to me about Logan’s Run is that when it came out it was a very adult science fiction film, in fact I read the book eons ago and I think it was more racey than the film as I recall. Also the theme of ‘only being allowed to live until 21’ seemed to be an indirect reference to the generation gap of the Vietnam War era. It will be interesting to see if director Joseph Kosinski can tap into these themes by going with a low tech approach:
Logan’s Run Is Running
But Singer’s not directing
“Bryan Singer had it, and dropped it. Flightplan’s Robert Schwenke was discussed for a while, and then V For Vendetta’s James McTeigue. But now Logan’s Run is going ahead and debutant feature director Joseph Kosinski is going to be leading the chase.
This new version is said to be based more closely on the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson than the 1976 movie, exploring the concept of the greater good (the greater good) and the subordination of a society to an ideology. But don’t worry kids! It’ll also have chases and Sanctuary and gangs!
Kosinski apparently landed the deal when he brought Warners a presentation including concept art and animated pre-visualisation to show his ideas for the world, a sort of “low-tech” science fiction environment (translation: no spaceships. No teleportation).”
