Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy Type-0 For PS4 And Xbox One In English
When Final Fantasy XIII was announced, it was done so as part of the “Fabula Nova Crystalis” project that also included Final Fantasy Versus XIII (just for PS3) and Final Fantasy Agito XIII (for mobile). The former game was delayed, being reannounced as Final Fantasy XV in 2013, while the latter game was reworked for PSP as Final Fantasy Type-0. FFXIII got two direct sequels, FFXV isn’t finished yet, and Type-0 was never released outside of Japan due to the declining demand for the PSP. But suddenly, we’re going to be getting it — just not for PSP!
Square Enix began by announcing a release for the previously Japan-only Final Fantasy Agito, a free-to-play game for iOS/Android that exists in the same setting as Type-0. Besides being directly related, it also uses some of the original concepts for FF Agito XIII. Despite the spotty history of Square Enix games on smartphones (or smartphone games in general), it’s reportedly fun and worth playing. At the end of the video, there was an announcement from Type-0 director Hajime Tabata that Type-0 would also be getting localized for Western markets and to hang on to your PS4 or Xbox One. Square Enix confirmed that the game was coming to the two platforms at some point, which is great news for RPG fans.
The only unfortunate thing about this is that Square Enix took so long to make this announcement or decision that fans finally put out a full translation patch for Type-0 just two days ago. Granted, you need to hack your PSP, but the PSP is one of the most hacked systems in recent memory, and it’s likely the fans for this game have already been playing the game. Maybe some fans will decide to wait for the official version with improved graphics, but with the low cost of the fan-translated PSP version (i.e. free), it’s likely that many will decide to play it now.
Still, great news, and I’ll certainly be waiting for it.
