Connection Between Man Of Steel And Dark Knight Trilogy Revealed

Batman/Superman

With Warner Brothers struggling to put together a Justice League film and a DC film universe to compete with The Avengers and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are lots of rumors swirling about how things will go down. While Man of Steel is being treated as the first step in DC’s rough plans, no one knows what’s happening with Batman. While Christian Bale is almost assuredly out of the picture, will the new Batman be a recasting of the same Batman, a new character taking over his mantle, or a completely rebooted character that ignores Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy? Well, there is a Batman reference in Man of Steel. There are spoilers ahead, but it’s something extremely minor that probably won’t help you feel better about WB’s DC plans either way.

When talking to Omelete, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder revealed the Batman easter egg he put in his movie: “The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys.” Yep, that’s it. Apparently it’s something very easy to miss, too.

For those of you playing at home, this means one of three things. One: This confirms that Batman exists in the Man of Steel universe, and this is the first of many future connections that will lead to the Justice League movie. Two: Wayne Enterprises exists in this universe, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Batman does. Three: this is just an easter egg and has no bearing on anything. Considering how easy it is to toss a logo in, I’m betting they’re just planning on the third option for now, and if Man of Steel does well and Warner Brothers gets their act together, they’ll say it was meant to indicate a unified universe all along.

Zack Snyder isn’t saying, of course. When Omelete followed up asking if he’d like to Batman and Superman to team up in Man of Steel 2, Snyder replied, “I don’t know. Everything is interesting at this point. And don’t forget that Lex is out there, doing who knows what…” To me, that sounds more interesting than a team-up I’ve never thought worked that well in the past. Let’s hope any team-ups are reserved for the Justice League movie.
