Blizzard Dates StarCraft II: Heart Of The Swarm
Has it really been over two years since StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty came out? I’ll be honest, despite my interest, I haven’t even had a chance to play it yet. So I feel really behind now that Blizzard has actually given out a release date for their upcoming expansion, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. It’s too soon for a gamer like me who is constantly behind, but for those who have been playing since Wings of Liberty‘s release.
Heart of the Swarm will be released on Mac and PC on March 12, 2013. It features a new Zerg-focused campaign, to compliment the first game’s Terran campaign, in which Sarah Kerrigan rallies the Zerg against Arcturus Mengsk. The multiplayer will be mostly the same, though new multiplayer units will be added for each of the three sides.
This being an expansion, the game will retail for $40, $60 for the Digital Deluxe version, and $80 for the collector’s edition. The Digital Deluxe version includes such digital bonuses as a reskin of Zerg Ultralisks (Torrasque), Battle.net portraits and decals, a World of Warcraft in-game pet, and blade wings and a banner sigil for Diablo III — basically, a waste of $20 that can only be fully utilized by owning two more games. The collector’s edition fares better, with a behind the scenes DVD/Blu-ray, a soundtrack CD, a 144-page hardcover art book, and a Zerg Rush mousepad, plus the digital goodies from the Digital Deluxe version.
Blizzard collector’s editions generally sell out fast, so this would be the time to preorder them if you want one. Otherwise, just wait until March 12, 2013, play the Zerg campaign, and then begin the wait for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, the final Protoss-focused expansion in the story.
