The Best Batsuit Hollywood Never Made
Check out this stunning take on the Dark Knight’s Batsuit. This custom suit, recently posted on TheEffectsLab.com’s forum, and designed by X Workz studios, borrows its design from Rocksteady’s Arkham series of games. The recently released Batman: Arkham City has been receiving rave reviews and has been one of the most anticipated titles of the year. While Arkham City has a very gritty and dark atmosphere, the character designs don’t stray too far from the comics. It’s a stark contrast to Nolan’s films, all of which might come across as trying too hard, or two little depending on who you ask, but I digress. This is some incredibly impressive work. As much as I’ve loved the Batman films, I’ve always felt that they’ve consistently missed the mark when it comes to portraying the caped crusader’s trademark suit. Part of the problem is that the Batsuit has seen so many iterations throughout the years. One artist will draw it one way, someone else will draw it another, but and none of them can really be called definitive. There are a few common features, for example, the costume is most often portrayed in two tones, black and grey, or blue and grey — something, it would seem, Hollywood has consistently overlooked. Thankfully, the guys at Warner Brothers interactive and Rocksteady didn’t. It’s one bit of art direction that both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City managed to get right the first time around.
