While some may question some of their business practices now that they’re under the shadow of Activision, one thing is for sure: Blizzard still knows how to make some damn-fine cutscenes. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is out in only two weeks, on March 12, and Blizzard has a fancy cinematic trailer to get everyone pumped about the continuing story. Sure, there’s no gameplay, but look how cool it is!

One Piece: Pirate Warriors may have just been a Dynasty Warriors game, but it was still pretty fun despite the dumb gameplay. A large part of that were the energetic and wacky attacks. Lo and behold, there is a trailer for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 focusing on the entire Straw Hat crew and the new moves they’ve attained during the two-year time jump that occurs in the manga’s plot. Consider me somewhat unduly excited, but I can’t help it: Square Enix has finally announced a Western release for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX. It’s an HD collection consisting of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (the slightly improved original game, previously only released in Japan), Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (the PS2 remake of the GBA interquel), and redone, expanded cutscenes that tell the story of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (a DS spin-off set around the same time as Re:Chain of Memories). Brandon Laatsch has put together another very cool-looking first-person Mario video for your viewing pleasure… but as cool as it is, this video also makes one thing very clear: a first-person Mario game would never work. And it would also probably make me nauseous. Still, they’ve done a great job with the models and animation, and they’ve kept the small video in the upper-left corner to show you Mario’s movements from a more traditional perspective. Love yourself some fake commercials? Here’s a re-dubbed commercial from 1981 featuring the one and only Leonard Nimoy, selling you laserdiscs… er, I mean, the Playstation 4. I love the whole fake 80s commerical shtick that marketers have been using recently for movies and games, so this video from IGN fits right in. They really nailed the cheesy transitions and old-school typography. If you want, you can even take a look at the original commercial they used for this parody – it’s almost as funny – but mostly just charming in that so very 80s way. Read more…

Are you ready for season 3 of Game of Thrones? I’ve been waiting for this season for what seems like ages, but it’s almost here. HBO has finally released the first real trailer for it, and let’s just say it looks fantastic. I definitely can see the effect of the increased budget, because it looks much more polished than even (the already excellent) season 2. There’s a few new characters here, as well as all your favorites – you can even catch a quick look at Dany’s dragons… they’re a bit bigger now. No no no no no! It looks like Michael Bay and Megan Fox have gotten over their previous quarrels (or perhaps there was a little money involved in this movie making thing), because Bay confirmed on his website that Fox will be back into his “family” for his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. The first poster will also reportedly run with the catchphrase “Abandon all hope, ye who enter,” or something to that extent. The obvious assumption is that she’ll be April O’Neil, but I think they should cast her as an all-new TMNT character: Megan Fox. Because I just can’t see her as April. Read more…

He’s still a little shadowy, but what villain isn’t? Here’s a great look at Mandarin, the villain in Iron Man 3, in this brand new poster. Ben Kingsley looks great in this role, for sure, and I can’t wait to see him in action. While the costuming on Mandarin seems to be suitably eastern, he also seems to be channeling a dictator-esque fashion sense as well. Will he be enough of a villain to really kick Tony Stark to the curb? Going by all the trailers and media we’ve seen so far, the answer appears to be ‘yes.’ The Empire Online version of the poster seems to have a certain helmet in it… Check out the full poster below! Another week, another amazing LEGO model, right? Yeah, but this one it pretty unique: the entire Ghostbusters HQ made into a cross-section model, including the Ecto-1, and all the details from the film. See if you can find them all! Alex Jones is continuing to impress us all with his amazing work – he says he watch Ghostbusters 1 and 2 constantly for two months to learn all the nooks and crannies of the HQ. You’ve probably heard how it’s a runaway success in Japan and have been wondering when we’ll we see it on this side of the pond – well Nintendo and Capcom are giving you a chance to try out the games before their release on March 19th. You can now download the demos for it on either the 3DS or Wii U eShop to try your hand at the series. Hoo boy, where to begin? As promised, today Sony announced the future of PlayStation, the PlayStation 4. With an x86-64 8-core AMD CPU, a 1.84 TFLOPS AMD GPU, and 8GB of RAM, the PS4 has enough horsepower to run engines such as the Unreal Engine 4. The system uses a new controller, the DualShock 4; it’s close to the DualShock 3, but with a touchpad in the middle, a light to help identify each player’s controller, the ability to be tracked by the new PlayStation 4 Eye (included), and a Share button for some cool new features. Do you remember Ghost Trick? It was a Capcom DS game from the creator of the Ace Attorney series. You played a dead detective who had to solve mysteries to discover information about his murder. There was also a cute dog. Well, NeoGAF solved an alternate reality game from Square Enix and discovered a teaser trailer for their next game. The Naruto videogames keep coming, and while not every game leaves Japan, we tend to get most of the better ones. The latest in CyberConnect2’s Ultimate Ninja series is Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, and the graphics still look as beautiful as ever. While the gameplay of previous Ultimate Ninja Storm games has never been that special, the cel-shading is always well done. And of course, there are over 80 characters, giving it the biggest roster yet.

Actually, it’s not even a trailer! Pixar has released a new video that’s a faux university commercial, with a message from the school dean giving a message to prospective students. It’s great to get a look at the upcoming Monsters University film, and I love how committed the marketing has been to the whole project. There’s been all kinds of marketing that acts as though MU is an actual place, and there’s even a website made for it! I always prefer that style of advertising. But I hope you weren’t hoping to see much! Bungie has finally shown off a short ViDoc that reveals their work on the upcoming game called Destiny. It’s a sci-fi mlutiplayer shooter (surprise surprise!) with MMO overtones. Team up with your group of buddies and complete missions, encounter other players, and earn loot or guns. There will be three classes to choose from: Hunter, Warlock, and Titan, and from there onward you can customize your character. The world is intended to be persistent and player actions will have an effect on the game. Check out this bad boy: a brand new ultimate LEGO model of the Red Five X-wing! At first some images of it leaked online, at which point it spread all over the place. LEGO then promptly requested these images to be taken down… and then uploaded their video announcing the new set. Anyway, regardless of the announcement, this new set looks great, and if you’re a LEGO or Star Wars fan, this will definitely make a great display piece. It’ll arrive in May and will retail for $199.99, with 1,559 pieces. And yes, it includes R2-D2. It wouldn’t be complete without him! Watch the video below to see all the details. Read more…

Another rumor about the PS4 in the lead-up to the February 20th announcement? Say it isn’t so! The Wall Street Journal is reporting that while PS4 games will still probably be delivered on disc or digital download, PS3 games will instead be streamed to the system as compressed video. Sony had acquired game-streaming company Gaikai a while back, and everyone assumed the tech would be integrated into the next system – the real question was how. Another potential use, I believe, will be game demos. And perhaps even better, is that the option will exist then to stream PS3 games to any other internet connected device, such as PCs, the Vita, or smartphones. Hopefully Sony will capitalize on this! Here’s a new red band trailer for Danny Boyle’s next film, TRANCE, and man, does it look crazy good. Given that it’s a red band trailer, be aware it features content a little more graphic than usual, particularly an amazingly “mind-blowing” final clip that surprised me. I’m super excited to see Boyle return to some more mind-bending antics, especially in such a unique-sounding story. An art thief forgets where he hid a valuable painting, so he’s hypnotized to try and remember where he left it. Of course, it only becomes more insane from there. Watch the trailer below. Read more…

While I’m labeling this as a rumor, currently, let’s just say that this is the most probably rumor ever. The Latino Review is reporting that according to their sources, Harrison Ford is returning for the Star Wars universe for Episode VII. This is no surprise, as Ford said earlier that’d he love to come back to the series, so in my mind this was an inevitability. Hopefully we’ll get confirmation from Lucasfilm and Disney soon. My opinion has always been that J.J. Abrams will have the returning characters like Han be in more of a “mentor” position, to pass the torch to new, younger characters. Will I be right? Read more…

Are you ready to have a little more Luigi in your life? Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is on it’s way to 3DS on March 24th, but Nintendo decided to go all-out and declare 2013 the Year of Luigi. In addition to that game, Nintendo also announced a new Mario & Luigi game, subtitled Dream Team. Coming this summer, it’s a new installment in the popular RPG series, featuring Mario going into Luigi’s dreams, while Luigi snores soundly on the bottom screen. Lastly, they also mentioned new DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U, which when activated, will change the existing levels into 80+ new courses only for Luigi.
