Not sure how often I’ll get to write that headline!
Iain Heath has put together a massively impressive LEGO model of a Space Kraken taking down the Super Star Destroyer. The SSD has a bit of a reputation in the LEGO community as a big, boring, grey model, so Iain took matters into his own hands and spruced it up with a big splash of color. It was on display at the Emerald City Comicon this year and has now moved to its new resting place at Tableau Software in Seattle. Really impressive work! Read more…

By now you have probably heard about Shovel Knight and its Kickstarter: the game is to be a pixelated love letter to 8-bit games, made by ex-Wayforward Studios staff. They’re some good people, and folks love classic games, so the chance to help support a new 8-bit game really caught the internet’s attention. Yacht Club Games asked for $75,000 to complete the game and has completed the Kickstarter with a massive $311,502. They’ve added tons of bonuses and stretch goals to the project and have met every single one. If you still want to pledge or pre-order the game, you can do so via PayPal. The game is set to release this winter. However, it still needs to be voted up on Steam Greenlight to get on the digital distribution service. Read more…

Now you can finally live out the act of having Iron Man’s armor fly onto your body in dramatic fashion. This weekend marks the beginning of a new Iron Man Attraction at Disneyland as part of the Innovations exhibit. There will be Iron Man suits on display, as well as a Kinect look-alike system of having an Iron Man suit track your body so it looks like you’re in the suit. Pretty nifty, but I think I’d rather look like a dork in the comfort of my own home. Would be cool to see all those suits though. Read more…

Ace Attorney 5 has been in my vision for a while, mainly due to the fact that I’m a diehard fan of the series, but also due to seeing how well it can make the jump to 3D. Sure, the return of Phoenix Wright is expected, and he’s got a new young female sidekick, but I love the direction they’re taking Apollo Justice, making him the bandaged renegade, rising from the ashes. Hopefully it’s not too much of a turn of character. Anyway, Capcom recently updated their official site for AA5, but accidentally left the release date on it: July 25th. Read more…

Are you ready for new DLC for Far Cry 3? DLC that, in my opinion, looks cooler than the regular game? I’m astounded it’s even getting made. Yes, Ubisoft is creating a 8os-esque fake retro TV-show-designed-to-shill-action-figures DLC campaign. At first thought to be an elaborate April Fools joke, this thing is indeed real. And the trailer for it shows off plenty of neon lights, lasers, middle fingers, robot arms, and dinosaurs. Set in the near future of the year 2007, Sergeant Rex Colt: Mark IV Cyber Commando must defeat the evil army of cyborgs. I am so glad this is real. Watch the trailer below. Read more…

Trust me guys, just don’t.
Harrison Ford went on David Letterman a few days ago and quite frankly brushed off every question about Star Wars Episode VII that Letterman tossed at him. I think he’s both sick of talking about it, and probably can’t talk about it. However, someone else does want to talk about Episode VII, and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) dropped a few bits such as “I don’t want to wear anybody out by speculating or letting you waste your energy” and said that he’s “not sitting by the phone, but it’s always nice when it rings.” Sounds like he either hasn’t been asked to come back yet, or can’t say anything due to NDAs as well. So, you hear that internet? Don’t speculate! Daniels says so! Read more…

Here’s a hot new indie game to pick up pronto: Guacamelee! Ever wanted to play a Metroidvania-style game as a luchador? No? Well you should, because Guacamelee, the latest game from Drinkbox Studios, is a high-octane, super-colorful downloadable PSN game for PS3 and Vita ($14.99). It’s packed full of references to other video games and pop culture, as well as having tight game mechanics and excellent controls. If you’ve been looking for a Metroidvania fix, then I’d highly recommend Guacamelee. It satisfies that itch and does so with style! It also has dimension-switching and you can turn into a chicken. Still on the fence? Check out some footage from Giant Bomb below. Read more…

District 9 was one of the best recent sci-fi films, both for its message and its excellent use of a low budget (it looked fantastic, visually). It looks like Neill Blomkamp is finally back now, and I couldn’t be more excited. It starts Matt Damon as a man who lives on the devastated Earth, looking upward at all the disease-free rich folk living in the orbiting space colony, Elysium. To save his own life, he plots to secretly make his way onto Elysium and use their advanced tech, while wearing a powerful suit. Sharlto Copley shows ups as a bounty hunter tracking Damon down (which is awesome). The film arrives August 9th. Read more…

We’re still waiting on some of the more high-profile Kickstarter-funded games to come out, but that’s understandable, since anything good does take a while to develop. But if the developer is doing it right, there will be a continuous trickle of updates. The latest update from Obsidian Entertainment shows off the 2D engine they’re using for their upcoming game Project Eternity. There’s no gameplay, but you do get to see a fully tricked out environment based on the concept art above. Read more…

Praise the sun! IGN has a 12-minute gameplay demo of Dark Souls II, the first footage released! Watch as director Yui Tanimura and producer Tak Miyazoe take us through various parts of the game, showing off devious traps and monsters that often attack when you’re behind them. Of course, there is lots and lots of dying. At one point, this guy? Cheers near a cliff and then gets knocked off by boars. That’s Dark Souls for you! Read more…

Speaking of Batman, Game Informer has just announced that Warner Bros. Montreal are making Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to Rocksteady’s Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The game will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC this fall. It will be set years before the first two Arkham games and include the villain Deathstroke. What’s a little concerning is that someone other than Rocksteady are making the game, considering how proven Rocksteady is, but I’m still optimistic. Read more…

io9 dredged up this making-of featurette for the notorious Batman & Robin. What’s surprising is that mixed in with the usual interviews and behind the scenes footage is a lot of frank criticism of the film from the very people making it. Director Joel Schumacher, often vilified for taking the movie in a more kid-friendly direction, seems quite aware of the trainwreck the film is becoming. (You can see the terror in his eyes.) Chris O’Donnell is also particularly harsh. Read more…

Sick and tired of the grind in Farmville? Why not chill out with the latest Animal Crossing game? Animal Crossing: New Leaf is coming to North American 3DS owners on June 9 (not today, like the trailer implies), and it looks like a game where you can do…things! I’ll be honest, I have never completely understood the appeal of this series, which has you gardening, decorating your house, talking with animal neighbors, and just sort of goofing around. But it’s popular enough to get a new installment on every Nintendo system since the GameCube, and this 3DS game is a giant hit in Japan, so it must be doing something right! Read more…

Are you pumped about Jurassic Park‘s rerelease in theaters, but don’t want to pay money to rewatch it? I try not to post too many of these web series videos, because YouTube is flooded with them and you already see the deluge of regurgitated Let’s Play-ers and “Everything Wrong With The Hobbit in 60 Seconds” videos everywhere. But every once in a while there’s some clever content out there, and this recent Honest Trailers video is pretty great, not just because it’s about Jurassic Park 3D, but because it takes ample time to appreciate Jeff Goldblum in sexy poses. And why Sam Neill will always be “that Jurassic Park guy.” Watch it below. Read more…

Looks like Game Freak and The Pokémon Company are having a bit of fun with everyone, as they have revealed a new Pokémon for the upcoming game pair, Pokémon X & Y, but have not revealed anything about it. Yes, here’s some new images and a short trailer of a new very Mewtwo-like Pokémon, but as far as a name or details about its abilities, there’s nothing. Of course, the fanart machine is already in full force, so there’s plenty of people excited about this reveal, but several fakes and wrong information are floating around despite the official news. Check out the video below! Read more…

Once again, LEGO fans prove their mettle in fantastic ways: David Frank has put together a LEGO version of the classic toy Castle Grayskull from Masters of the Universe. It’s delightfully chunky-looking and captures the spirit of the original perfectly. It has all the internals as well, and is leaving me wondering how he accomplished some of those details. Great job with hiding the studs, too! Take a look at some more images of the castle below the jump, and then try not to pull out that bin of LEGO bricks you have stashed in the attic. Read more…

Thief returns! Yes, the classic game series is getting a new addition by Square Enix and Edios Montreal (the same folks who brought you Deus Ex: Human Revolution). While game is still a ways off, the first trailer has come out for it, and features lots of pre-rendered non-gameplay CGI. Thief will be coming out for PC, PS4, and other nebulous next-generation systems that aren’t the Wii U but might have the letters “X” or “BOX” in the name. I wonder which system it could be… Anyway, check out the trailer below and begin the wait for 2014. Read more…

Depending on your point of view, Mega64 are either hilarious or terrible jerks. Bumbling about in public dressed up as video game characters, sometimes directly around people, sometimes just providing a very weird show… it’s not your typical street performance. But it’s always worth it when someone reacts in a funny way or says something humorous when three grown men in costumes fumble their way through a park. Now I kind of want an animal mask for myself. Yes, I’m not making that up. Weird Al and Huey Lewis reenact one of the most iconic scenes in American Psycho, when Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman rambles on about the purportedly amazing music of Huey Lewis and the News. It’s an intense scene with a deeper meaning, that results in a man getting hit in the head with an axe, but most people come away only with the disturbing but hilarious Huey Lewis and the News line. So now Lewis is getting his revenge. And poor, poor Weird Al is stuck in the middle of it. Watch the video below. Read more…

Get ready, Bluth fans, because Netflix has finally confirmed the launch date of the new season of Arrested Development: May 26th. Along with this date we also have gotten a new poster, and news that there will be a total of 15 episodes, up from the 14 we heard last. I really hope this catches on and we can see more Arrested Development in the future too, but first we just gotta get to May 26th. Also: they couldn’t have picked a better tagline. Those clever devils over at Netflix know what they’re doing, that’s for sure. Check out the poster below! Read more…

After I saw the cult-hit Drive in theaters, I became a big fan of director Nicolas Winding Refn’s work. And now I’m very excited for his next film, Only God Forgives. There was a small teaser a few months ago, but now we’ve got a full red band trailer to get a real taste of the movie – and it looks intense. Set in Bangkok, the official synopsis is a “police lieutenant and a gangster settle their differences in a Thai-boxing match” but you know it’s way more in-depth than that. Refn’s visual style is present in full force, and the heavy focus on music seems to be back as well. We also now have a confirmed US release date: July 19th. So get ready! Trailer after the jump. The Zygons haven’t been truly featured since their debut story, Terror of the Zygons, a 1975 Doctor Who serial featuring the Fourth Doctor. Sure, they have been in a few newer episodes, and there have been in a few books released since then, including one with the Tenth Doctor, but those don’t count as much as being the main villains for a story. The BBC just tweeted this photo though, confirming that the Zygons will fully return in the 50th Anniversary Special! Read more…

The Wii U is hurting for games, and I’m not sure ports of previously released games is the way to fix things. Most of a port’s potential customers probably already bought it.
