Gal Gadot Is Wonder Woman In Batman vs. Superman
I feel a little bit for Man of Steel‘s Superman. Henry Cavill did an good job working under Zack Snyder’s weak filmmaking, and we all assumed he’d get to be at the heart of whatever WB was doing to eventually lead into a Justice League movie. But it seems they’re not taking the Marvel path of several origin films, as his next film is Batman vs. Superman (or one of many other poor names for a movie). Now he’ll have even less of the spotlight, as it’s now confirmed that Wonder Woman will be in the movie. WB just announced that Gal Gadot will play the famous female superhero in her first time on the big screen.
Let’s focus more on the actual news. Gadot is an Israeli actress known for the role of Gisele Harabo in various entries in The Fast and the Furious franchise. I think that she looks a little small for the role, but given enough of a training regimen, I could see her either packing on some muscle or at least getting some muscle definition. Gadot could be a good choice, but it’s too early to say.
I’m more concerned that this next Superman movie seems to be all about other superheroes now. Even if Iron Man 2 was partly concerned about giving exposition to S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury, and Black Widow as a lead-up to The Avengers, it was still focused on Iron Man, with the S.H.I.E.L.D. characters functioning clearly as supporting characters who maybe got a bit too much screen time. But considering how well-known Batman and Wonder Woman, it’s easy to imagine a scenario in which Superman is less important in his own movie. They’re not just characters, they’re superhero icons, and I can’t imagine the movie placing them squarely in supporting roles. Nevermind the fact that after years of Batman and Superman movies, Wonder Woman can’t even get an origin movie of her own.
Again, it’s too early to pass judgment when we haven’t even seen a trailer, much less the movie. Hopefully I’m proven wrong, and maybe Gadot can star in her own Wonder Woman spin-off down the line.
