Square Enix Announces Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX
After Square Enix announced and released Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (which includes the first game KH: Final Mix, its interquel KH: Re:Chain of Memories, and HD cutscenes of the second interquel KH: 358/2 Days), fans asked one major question: why wasn’t the sequel KHII included? While fans are split on whether they prefer the first or second games, they’re the only two numbered entries, with KHIII still on the horizon for PS4 and Xbox One. Now that the first HD collection is out globally, Square Enix has announced the sequel they hinted at in that collection’s credits: Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX!
Yes, this is the collection that will feature KHII: Final Mix, the Japan-only rerelease that adds new items, quests, and bosses. But almost just as exciting is a new, HD console version of KH: Birth by Sleep: Final Mix, the Japan-only rerelease of the PSP prequel to the whole series that I would argue is the best entry for gameplay and story, even if the graphics are weaker. And following what they did with KH: 358/2 Days, this collection will feature HD remade cutscenes from KH: Re:Coded, the DS interquel set between KHII and KH3D. It’s another title that rehashes visits to previous worlds, so cutting out the gameplay to focus on what happened in the story is a wise choice.
KH HD 2.5 ReMIX will be released globally in 2014. Between this and the previous collection, those who want to replay the series or jump into it for the first time will be able to play 85% of the series on PS3.
