Every PS4 Game Must Work With Vita Remote Play
Do you remember wirelessly connecting your PSP to your PS3 to play PS3 games on your PSP? You probably don’t, because it was used for a scant few games, most of which were PSN games. Maybe that’s because the PSP not only didn’t have L2 and R2 buttons, but more importantly didn’t have a right analog stick. So when Sony started talking up the same feature for the PlayStation Vita and the PS4, seemingly just to compete with the Wii U Gamepad, it made sense to be skeptical. But thankfully, Sony has some good news.
A new console generation means the ability to enforce new standards, such as Microsoft’s requirements for custom soundtracks and voice chat on Xbox 360, or every PlayStation Vita game being available digitally. And Sony is putting its foot down, requiring every PS4 game to support Remote Play on Vita. The only games that don’t have to support it are ones that use the PlayStation Eye.
Some developers may consider these bells and whistles unnecessary, but just like all the requirements on 360, this is ultimately good for the consumer. Furthermore, in conjunction with cross-play games — those that are playable on both PS3 and PS Vita after just one purchase — this gives more reason to buy the currently ailing Vita, and that’s not a bad thing.
