I’ve always had a soft spot for Tekken. I know it’s not everyone’s fighting game of choice, but the series has remained successful throughout the years due in large part to its dedicated fan-base, of which I consider myself a member. While I love the gameplay, and even some of the zany story elements, I’ll be the first to admit that that the plot can be incredibly confusing. Thankfully the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 won’t be adding to that. Instead, the game is considered non-cannon, allowing gamers to simply have fun with the Tekken universe. One of the modes to be included in the upcoming console release is the “Fight Lab Mode” — what’s that, you ask? Find out after the jump.

As the story goes, “Fight Lab Mode,” starts with the character Violet — later revealed to be Lee Choalan in a very poor disguise — building his first combat ready robot, aka Combot — some of you may recall this occurring in Tekken 4. Blinded by his brilliance, and temporarily distracted, the robot unexpectedly explodes. In order to rectify the situation, Violet places you in charge of building a replacement, and that’s where you come in.

As the name of the mode implies, you’re given the opportunity to build your robot with a custom move-set. You’ll then put the robot through a series of test stages. From the looks of the menu pictured above, you’ll be gaining income from each stage based on your rank upon completion, which you can then use to improve your robot even further.

As you can see here, the game doesn’t really take itself too seriously, so I’m sure the mode will be incredibly fun. Note the dancing bears.
