A Virtual Space Battleship Yamato on Your iPhone
Anybody who grew up with Star Blazers is going to want to download this Yamato iPhone app right away! The app was released to promote the new Yamato film which came out last year — the only catch is that he navigation is in Japanese, so here’s a quick tour:
The app first opens with a scene from the film of the Yamato taking off…
…I love he fact how unlike all the previous openings they’ve added the added touch of making it smash through icy waters:
Of course you can always skip the movie — but if you do that or watch to the end you get to the main menu of the app:
The top button on the left with the VR will launch you into a tour of Space Battleship Yamato:
Just click on the Yamato in the upper left to start the tour:
The arrow in the upper left returns you to the main menu. If you slide to the left or right you can go to the bow or stern of the Yamato. The circular icons allow you to rotate the ship, which is amazing to look at. And if you click on the arrows with the circles you get an image of that section of the ship:
Here are screen shots of moving around the Yamato in 3D:
Here’s a shot of the bridge:
Getting back to the main menu — the second button from the top takes you to a video and audio gallery:
The third button brings you to some text information, but if you can read Japanese you may want to skip this part:
The fourth button gives you character info:
