Here’s Some New Fantastic Four Photos

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 27, 2015 in Cinema, Comic Books

f4

The Josh Trank Fantastic Four film grows closer, and stills seems to be a bit of a mystery. Even with a teaser trailer, the movie seems to be a bit obtuse from a marketing standpoint. It doesn’t help that there have been negative rumors floating around during filming (mainly that Trank has been incredibly unprofessional). Those rumors haven’t really solidified since, but the lack of marketing and Fox’s general disregard for the film has been puzzling. Still, they released four new photos with Empire, and well… they sure are photos of the cast. Nothing really special though, and definitely nothing big enough to start the hype train rolling. Check them out below! Read more…

Neill Blomkamp’s Alien Film Will Ignore Alien 3 and 4

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 27, 2015 in Cinema

alien

In a recent interview with Sky Movies, Neill Blomkamp went into more detail about his next film, which will be a new Alien film. Like many folks, Blomkamp wasn’t a fan of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, and is planning for his film to take place after Aliens, effectively ignoring half of the series. This is an interesting approach, and it has stirred up a lot of debate online. Many fans are upset that the canon is being disregarded so flippantly, others are happy to see an alternate take on where Ripley’s story could go. I’m not married to the idea of “canon,” and we live in a world where stories are rebooted all the time. While this movie could definitely turn out poorly, I don’t think we need to cling so preciously to the concept of “canon.” If it’s good, then great! If not, then oh well! We already have some wonderful Alien films we can always re-watch any time. Read more…

You Want To Hear Every Smash Bros. Character Clap

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 23, 2015 in Videogames

smash

You don’t even know it yet, but you want to hear every Smash Bros. character clapping. It’s true! Every time you finish a match in Smash Bros. for Wii U or 3DS, the losing characters applaud politely (or sometimes not-so-politely) while the winner basks in the glory. In-game the clapping is silent, but the Game Grumps have taken it upon themselves to add in the foley sound effects for all the characters clapping. Sometimes they go a little bit… overboard. Who knew clapping could sound so gross? Come on, you’re curious, aren’t you? Click through to watch nearly six minutes of video game characters clapping in silly, silly ways. Read more…

So… Here’s A Sesame Street Birdman Parody

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 23, 2015 in Cinema

birdman

This definitely wasn’t what I was expecting to see today: Sesame Street has put together a cute little video featuring Caroll Spinney, the Birdman. Well, the man inside the bird. Big Bird, that is. Yes, Sesame Street made a Birdman parody, and it’s quite clever, too, playing on all the elements of the film. I’m sure most kids won’t get this joke video, but that’s okay, this isn’t really for them anyway. It’s just a smart way for Sesame Street to stay in the spotlight during Oscars season. (By the time you’re reading this, maybe Birdman has won something?) Check out the video embedded below! Read more…

Steven Spielberg Wants To Return To Indiana Jones With Chris Pratt

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 22, 2015 in Cinema

indianajones

When we heard that Disney wanted to reboot Indiana Jones, I don’t think many people were surprised. When Chris Pratt was being floated as the possible lead, I think most folks said, “Yeah, I could totally see that.” The real surprise is this: Steven Spielberg is expressing interest in directing the reboot and returning to the franchise again. It’s still very early in the process, but assuming the script is to his satisfaction, Spielberg does want to direct Pratt in a new adventure. Spielberg definitely still has talent so I suppose this isn’t a bad turn of events! There’s still a ways to go, but we could be looking at a new Jones film soon. Read more…

Jeff Sneider Says Spider-Man Will Not Be White

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 22, 2015 in Cinema

spiderman

There’s been tons of speculation over who will play the new Spider-Man. We heard a few names being floated not long ago, but on Meet the Movie Press, TheWrap’s Jeff Sneider went on record saying that the new Spider-Man will not be white. He also believes that there is a high chance he won’t be Peter Parker as well. Sneider isn’t someone to make stuff up, as he’s also worked for Variety in the past and is very reliable. If he’s saying this, it’s because he’s hearing inside info that’s pointing him this way. Now, this could contradict the initial Marvel press release that mentioned “Peter Parker” specifically, but Sneider says that the Sony email leaks might have been a factor in changing the character. Could we get Mile Morales? I would love to see this happen. (And sorry guys, but it won’t be Donald Glover. It’ll be a younger actor.) Video below with the full conversation! Read more…

A New Reel of Game of Thrones Season 4 Bloopers!

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 21, 2015 in Television

got1

Season 5 of Game of Thrones is right around the corner (and we’re getting into uncharted territory for several characters). George R.R. Martin even mentioned recently that some characters who are still alive in the books will die in the show. Now book-readers and show-watchers alike can cower in fear of their favorite characters getting offed! With all this stress, I think it’s time to relax a bit with some season 4 bloopers! This was released as a final reward to visitors of the Game of Thrones Exhibition in London, but now everyone can enjoy it online. Read more…

Here’s Your First Look At Jason Momoa As Aquaman

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 21, 2015 in Cinema, Comic Books

aquaman2

Jason Momoa and Zack Snyder promised that Aquaman in the upcoming Batman v Superman film would be “badass,” a term that not many non-comic fans would associate with the character. However, given that they cast Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and going by this first image of his costume, I have to say: he does look pretty badass. When they announced Momoa as the actor to play him, I definitely pictured a more Khal Drogo-esque Aquaman, and this fits the bill. It remains to be seen how much of a part he’ll play in the film, but hopefully Aquaman will be handled well and become a fan favorite. Read more…

Headcrabs Are Even Bigger Jerks Than You Thought

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 20, 2015 in Fandom, Videogames

headcrab

Here’s a fun little video to start your Friday off right: Headcrabs are pretty rude. Not only do they hide behind easily-crowbar-ed boxes and attempt to couple with your head, eating your brains in the process, but according to this short Source video, they’ll steal your stuff, too. Nathan Hibberd created this short film and I think it’s probably the silliest thing on his YouTube channel currently. Also, I can use this post as an opportunity to talk about Half-Life, one of my favorite video game series ever. I love the world of Half-Life, and the amount of great videos like this one just go to show that a lot of other people do too! Read more…

New International Mad Max: Fury Road Trailer Packs In Even More Action

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 20, 2015 in Cinema

madmax

This new Japanese trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road runs only 1 minute in length, yet it somehow feels like a full-length trailer with an abundance of footage. It still remains to be seen if Fury Road will be a good film, but I think most people will agree that the trailers are top-notch. This is how you get people hyped for your movie! I’ve embedded the trailer below. It reuses a fair amount of footage from previous promos but also sneaks in quite a few new shots as well. When a new Mad Max film was announced, you’d be hard pressed to find any excitement on my end. Now? I’m planning on seeing this opening week! Read more…

Watch A Time-Lapse of Five Years of The Sun From NASA

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 16, 2015 in Science

sun

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory celebrated its five-year anniversary on February 11th, and to celebrate they put together a video showing what they’ve been seeing as they watched the sun these past five years. There’s a highlight video too! Basically, if you ever wanted to stare into the sun for a while and not damage your eyes, these are the videos for you. “Capturing an image almost once per second, SDO has provided an unprecedentedly clear picture of how massive explosions on the sun grow and erupt,” says NASA. Praise the sun! Read more…

How To Make A Fake Smash Bros. Leak

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 16, 2015 in Fandom, Videogames

rayman

Over the last day or so you may have seen the supposed “leak” of DLC for Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS featuring Rayman. It was pretty real-looking, aside from the fact that people were wondering if Rayman could really be added to the game. Well, YouTube user Artsy Omni quickly revealed that he was the one behind the video, and yes, he made it all on his own. Sorry, Rayman fans, maybe next time! Still, Omni made a great video going into how he made the “leak” and made it seem authentic. It’s also just a great primer on the things you can do with After Effects! Don’t be too upset… check out the video below! Read more…

JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy To Kick Off Star Wars Celebration

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 15, 2015 in Star Wars

jjkathleen

The Star Wars Celebration convention isn’t too far off: April 16thto the 19th, to be exact. It’ll be at the Anaheim Convention Center, and we now know it’ll be kicked off by The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and producer & Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. The exact quote from the official site is that they’ll start “the show in a big way” and “this will be a day long remembered.” I don’t know about you, but given the speculation that a the first real trailer for The Force Awakens will premiere at Star Wars Celebration… that sounds pretty likely if both Abrams and Kennedy are there, doesn’t it? Lego Reveals UCS TIE Fighter Model

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 15, 2015 in Hobbies and Collections, Star Wars

tie1

It wasn’t that long ago that the Lego UCS Slave I came out, but Lego never stops. At the NY Toy Fair, Lego has revealed the Ultimate Collector’s Series TIE Fighter. With 1685 pieces, a TIE Fighter pilot, and of course, a display stand, the TIE Fighter model stands 18 1/2 inches tall and roughly 12 inches long and wide! This would definitely make a great desk piece. Lego also released their usual designer video, with a look at all the little features and pieces included. And here’s a heads up: there are rumors that there will be a large Hoth Rebel Base set in October. UCS sets are always pretty well-done. I’m still waiting for a new UCS Millennium Falcon, so I don’t have to pay ridiculous after-market prices on the old model! Check out more TIE Fighter images below. Read more…

Here’s Just Cause 3’s Explosion-Filled New Trailer

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 14, 2015 in Videogames

jc3

Just Cause 3 got a spotlight in Game Informer back in December, and a new trailer confirms what we all suspected: this game will have lots of explosions, and it will come out in holiday 2015. It’s pre-rendered video — no gameplay in sight — which is a little disappointing in 2015, but I suppose most folks like big explosions, so they should be alright. But hey: if you wanted a very up-close and hi-res look at the protagonist Rico Rodriguez’s face, you’re in luck, because this trailer also has that. The game will release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Check out the trailer below! Read more…

Watch The First Teaser For Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 14, 2015 in Cinema

crimsonpeak

Details on Guillermo Del Toro’s next film have been mostly broad-stroke PR blurbs about a haunted house and a woman torn between her childhood friend and a mysterious new suitor. It didn’t exactly jump out at you. However, never count out del Toro, as this first teaser for Crimson Peak shows off plenty of creepy style and exciting haunted house trappings. The… ghost… thing coming up through the floor is a great visual, too. Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Charlie Hunnam star. Crimson Peak is still a little ways off, and will open October 16th, just in time for Halloween.  Read more…

Ryan Reynolds Teases Deadpool Mask

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 13, 2015 in Cinema, Comic Books

deadpool

The Deadpool movie is still a year away, but that won’t stop Ryan Reynolds from teasing the costume on Twitter! The actor posted a sepia-tone photograph with the mask hidden in shadow… but you can still see it pretty well. Basically: it’s Deadpool’s mask. They’re turning away from X-Men: Origins entirely (as stated by Rob Liefeld) and starting fresh. Reynolds does joke that the “sepia tone disguises the fact the mask is ballerina pink.” Thanks to that leaked test footage, we’re actually seeing this movie come to life. Now let’s just hope it’s actually good, because Deadpool’s wisecracking style will be tough to translate to the big screen! Read more…

Lando Calrissian: “I Have A Feeling I’m Going To Show Up”

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 13, 2015 in Star Wars

williams

Actor Billy Dee Williams recently jumped headfirst into an interview with Cinelinx, talking up his role in Star Wars: Rebels. In between the other questions, of course, Cinelinx took a chance to ask him about the new Star Wars trilogy: was there any chance Williams could return as Lando Calrissian? Fans were upset he hadn’t returned yet. “Yeah, people were pretty upset about it.  But I uh…I may very well…I have a feeling I’m going to show up,” the actor said, then added: “There’s nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage.” Whether that means he actually knows anything or if he’s just hoping to get a chance to come back, who knows! Still, if you’re looking for some Lando, go watch his Star Wars: Rebels episodes! Read more…

A Striking Supercut of Sound From Quentin Tarantino’s Films

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 9, 2015 in Cinema

slurp

Sound and foley often is brushed over when people think about the work that goes into movies — but when it’s absent, you can suddenly feel that something is wrong; the movie world doesn’t feel quite as real. Quentin Tarantino is the epitome of style, but Jacob Swinney on Vimeo decided to put together a supercut not of the director’s visuals, but his sound. It easier to catch it isolation, but there’s a ton of great work here. There’s some of the obvious picks like the slurping of a nearly-empty soda… and other smaller bits like the sound of a cigarette. Check out the video below! Read more…

Watch Two Deleted Scenes From Game of Thrones Season 4

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 9, 2015 in Television

got_cut

The DVD and Blu-ray release of Game of Thrones season 4 isn’t far away now (February 17th to be exact), so we’re getting some glimpses of the special features on the disc set. Here are two deleted scenes, one from episode 2, featuring Bronn and Shae, and another from episode 8, with Dany and Missandei. It’s always fun to see what didn’t make the cut to the final product and (sad to say) this time around, you can tell why these scenes were cut. (Unlike season 3, which featured that great cut scene between Tywin and Pycelle.) Still, check them out below! Maybe it’ll get your hype flowing for season 5. Read more…

Marvel Announces A-Force, An All Female Avengers Comic

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 8, 2015 in Comic Books

aforce

Marvel has slowly been working on making more diverse comics, and while it’s still not perfect, they’ve made some big strides. Their latest announcement is the A-Force, an Avengers comic featuring an all female cast. The roster will be lead by She-Hulk, along with Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru, and a new heroine called Singularity. The art for the series will be done by Jorge Molina with writing by the Ms. Marvel scribe, G. Willow Wilson, and Marguerite Bennett (Batgirl). This is a really cool setup (it’s part of Marvel’s Secret Wars storyline right now) and I hope it continues beyond that. Check out the full cover art below. Read more…

Netflix Is Developing A Live-Action Legend of Zelda Show

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 8, 2015 in Videogames

zelda

Here’s something surprising: Netflix is currently working with Nintendo to develop a live-action Legend of Zelda show for their service. Given how guarded Nintendo usually is with their properties, this is a big leap for them, although company president Satoru Iwata had said that Nintendo would begin allowing for more licensing opportunities. The show is still in the early stages, and Netflix is currently on the hunt for a writer. Netflix is apparently describing it internally as “Game of Thrones for a family audience.” This could very easily be bad, so lets hope Netflix and Nintendo put the right people behind this. Doctor Who and Wall-E Are The Next LEGO Ideas Sets

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 7, 2015 in Hobbies and Collections

walle

Oh come on, were you even worried that the Doctor Who set wouldn’t be chosen? It was going to happen eventually! Yes, the next LEGO Ideas sets have been announced and they’ll be a Doctor Who playset and a Wall-E figure created by actual Pixar animator Angus MacLane! At the moment the Doctor Who set will probably change a bit from the initial design make sure it’s mass-market, but I imagine the Wall-E set will change very little in the redesign process at LEGO (sadly LEGO must change each Ideas set to fit their own standards still). Check out the images and video below! Read more…

Hollywood Still Wants To Make Robotech, Astro Boy Films

Posted by Ben Huber on Feb 7, 2015 in Cinema

astroboy

Despite getting support from actors like Tobey Maguire, Hollywood’s Robotech adaptation has languished for ages. It honestly seemed like it was dead — but, here we go again — Warner Bros’ Hollywood Gang is revving the engine again and producers Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton have nabbed the scriptwriter (Michael Gordon) behind 300 and G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra to begin writing it. We’ll see if it actually goes anywhere, this time. In similar news, Animal Logic Entertainment is attempting to start an Astro Boy film. Producer Zareh Nalbandian said, “We actually see him in the same league as an Iron Man.” Uh, hmm, okay. How about we just make a Pluto movie, instead? Read more…
